Iranian researchers have succeeded in creating powders containing ALENDRONATE SODIUM drugs at the laboratory level and can be an alternative to anti-osteoporosis pills.
RASEKHOUN reports quoting from MEHR newspaper, JAFAR EZATINEJAD, the superior researcher, in 20th RAZI festival told MEHR reporter: osteoporosis pills which are being used by persons above 50, especially women, to increase the calcium absorption in bones, have high complications, because the patient should use the pill after breakfast and stands for half an hour. And also, in some people, using this kind of drug, causes heartburn, muscle pain and pain in the chest area.
He added: therefore, we started the research, to decrease the effects of the drug, we made the tablet in to the powder, so the patient can use it through inhale.
He stated: to do this work, we formulated the drug in nanoparticles to be used more easily, then he added:
sodium alendronate (anti-osteoporosis) as hydrophilic drug was formulated in solid lipid nanoparticles and evaluated, because the solid lipid nanoparticles are from new drug delivery system to transfer different drugs, which will increase the efficiency of drug loading.
EZATINEJAD said: able to load pharmaceutical lipophilic, hydrophilic and low cytotoxicity are the benefits of this drug carrier.
He pointed out that, formulation of alendronate in solid lipid nanoparticles by homogenization method at high temperature and efficiency of drug loading by ultra-filtration method was verified.
The said researcher mentioned about efficiency of drug loading was over 75 to 80 percent, and continued: cost-effective, non-use of organic solvents, ease of construction, high loading efficiency and environmental compatibility are the benefits of this formulation and in the case of better results in the treatment of laboratory animals with the drug formulation, we can bring it into the production.
So, the powder can be a good alternative to anti-osteoporosis, alendronate.
At the end, he is claiming: for production of anti-osteoporosis powder, we need budget. We could verify this issue by the limit of studying it, and in 20th RAZI festival of medical researches, the said powder got the award in basic science field.
