If you’d like to explore the new sites and experience a cold autumn day in a mountainous region, you are recommended to visit the cascade of Sangan, near the capital. A one-day trip to the place would relieve all the exhaustion of the stressful life in Tehran.
It is located in the northwest of a village ,which carries the same name , about 20 km northwest of Tehran on the slopes of Pahne Hesar heights. Located on the north of the heights, it is 2,575 meters above sea level.
To visit there you should be prepared for mountain climbing and going through valleys. You should not be afraid of the cold and water either since the cascade lies in a valley with lots of water and, as the name suggests, it is full of rocks. (Sang means stone or rocks).
Sangan village , the closest village to the cascade, is a beautiful mountainous region which lies on the way to Kan , northwest of Tehran, a little above Sulghan. It boasts a shrine, apart from its valleys and cascade.
When to travel?
The cascade is the most magnificent in the months of Farvardin and Ordibehesht (April and May). But if you go there now, it’s still quite beautiful. In winter it offers a new landscape as the whole place is icy.
How to reach it?
You should travel from Karaj and the west of Tehran . After the square of Dehkade Olympic move east 3 km on the Hemmat highway and enter Kan through the second square of Shahran , which doesn’t exist anymore. Proceed and go over to the region where the shrine of Imamzade Davud is housed . After about 10 km, turn left where you’ll notice the sign of Sangan. Move on to reach downstream and then upstream Sangans. Note on holidays the parked cars extend out of the village near the dirt road as it gets very crowded.
If you head off from east of the capital, go to the end of Abshenasan ( Iranpars) highway . On the west end , you’ll get to the Kuhsar street and then on to the site. And if you are travelling from south you should take Sattari street and then to Iranpars and finally to Kuhsar street which leads you up there.
Necessary equipment
Comfortable mountain climbing shoes and clothing , a small back pack, poncho ( or rain coats), bottles of water, a mat, torch, sunblock, hat and sun glasses, portable meals, climbing sticks, gloves, extra socks, and gaiter
