1. "BEYOND THE SEAS"

I will build a boat
And cast it in water
I will sail away from this strange land
Where there is no one to awaken the heroes
In the glade of love
A boat void of nets
And a heart with no desire for pearls
I will keep sailing
Neither will I lose heart to the blues
Nor to the mermaids
Emerging out of water to cast the charms of their locks
Upon the glowing solitude of the fishermen
I will keep sailing
I will keep chanting
One should sail away and away
Men of that town had no myths
Woman of that town were not as full as a bunch of grapes
No hall mirrors reflected joys
No puddles reflected a torch
One should sail away and away
Night has chanted its song
It is now the windows turn
I will keep chanting
I will keep sailing
Beyond the seas there is a town
Where windows are open to manifestation

2. LIGHT , I , FLOWER, WATER

There is no cloud
There is no wind
I perch by the pond
The fish swimming about, light, I, flower, and water
The pure grapes of life
Mother is picking basils
Bread, basils and cheese, a cloudless sky
some wet petunias
Salvation is nearby, amidst the courtyard flowers
Such caresses light pours into the copper bowl!
From up the high wall, the ladder brings Dawn down to earth
Everything is hidden behind a smile
There is a crevice in the wall of Time
through which my visage is visible
There is a lot that I don't know
I know if i pick a plant I will die
I fly up to the peak; I am full of wings
I can find my way out in the dark; I am full of lanterns
I am full of light, of sands
And of shrubs and trees
I am full of paths, of bridges, of rivers, and of waves
I am full of a leaf's reflection in water
How infinite my loneliness is!

3. THE FISHES CONVEY A MESSAGE

had gone to the courtyard pool !
Perhaps to see the reflection of my solitude
The pool was empty
The fishes said
THe trees are not at all to blame
It was a hot summer noon
The Bright Son of Water sat by the pool
And the Sun's Eagle pounced down, taking him away
Cursed be our ignorance of oxygen!
From our scales, shine vanished, it did
But that blaze, the red coronation
In the water, gave us eyes
When the wind stirred behind
The clay parapets of our sleep
A peephole on paradise !
Should you see God in the Heartbeats of the Garden
Hasten to say
The fish pond is without water
The wind was visiting the plane tree
I was on my way to God

4. OVER THE EYELIDS OF NIGHT

It was a flowing night
From beneath the spruce trees
the stream was flowing to far beyond
The moonlight was illuminating the valley
And the mountain so bright that God could be seen
We were on the heights
Far beyond , invisible; surfaces, washed
And glance , more amorous than ever before
You handed me the green stalk of a message
And your breath quietly cracked
The Terracotta of Familiarity
Our hearbeats pouring down the rocks
From an old wine , the summer's sands flowing in veins
And the Moonlight enamelling your behaviour
You were wonderful , free , and down-to-earth.
The Green Fortune of Life mingled
With the cool mountain air
Shadows returned
And pennyroyals danced
With the breeze
And ecstasies mingled together

5. OASIS IN A MOMENT

If you are coming to me
I am beyond Oblivion
Beyond Oblivion is a place
Where dandelions run into the veins of air
Bringing news of a faraway blooming bush
The sands bear the footprints of delicate horsemen
Mounting the hilltop of poppies
One is lonely here
Where an elm's shadow streams into eternity
If you are coming to me
Approach gently, softly lest you crack
The fragile china of my solitude!

6. ADDRESS

"Where's the friend's house"?
asked a horseman at dawn
The sky paused.
To the dark sands, the passer-by gave the twig of light
between his lips
Pointing to a white poplar, he said
Before you reach the tree
There is an orchard aisle greener than God's dream
Where love is as blue as the Wings of Honesty
Walk to the end of the alley
emerging from beyond Maturity
Turn towards the Flower of Solitude
Two steps to the flower
Stay by the eternal fountain of the earth's myths
Then a lucid fear will encompass you
In the fluid sincerity of space, you will hear a rustle
You will see child
On a tall plane tree, picking a young bird
from the Nest of Light
Ask him
Where the friend's house is

7. NOSTALGIA

The moon is hovering over the village
Its inhabitants are asleep
On this terraced-roof, I smell the adobe of nostalgia
The light in neighbour's garden is on
Mine is off
The moonlight is shining on plateful of cucumbers, on the water pitcher
Frogs are croaking
An owl is hooting
The mountain is nearby: behind the maples
behind the service trees
And the desert is visible
Rocks are not visible, flowerets are not visible
From afar, shadows are visible like water's solitude, like God's song
It must be midnight
That is the Great Bear, two spans above the rooftop
The sky is not blue, It was blue during the day
I should remember to go to Hasan's Orchard tomorrow
to buy greengages and dried apricots
I should remember to go to the abattoir tomorrow
to make sketches of goats
Of brooms, and of their reflection in water
I should remember to rescue the butterflies
falling in water
I should remember not to commit a thing
to offend against the laws of earth
I should remeber to wash my towel
with soap bark at the stream tomorrow
I should remember I am solitary
The moon is over Solitude

8. AT GULESTANEH

Planis so vast
Mountains so high
What a scent of grass laz over Gulestaneh
In that village I was searching for something
Perhaps for some sleep
Light pebble, smile
Behind the poplar trees
Innocent negligence keeps calling me
At a rush bed I stopped. The wind was blowing
I listened
Who was talking to me?
A lizard plopped
I walked on
A hay fiedl on the way
Then contours of cucumbers, rosy bushes
And the oblivion of earth
At a stream
I took off my cotton slippers, and sat down
with my feet in water
How green I am today
And how alert my body
What if Sorrow creeps down the mountain
Who is behind the trees
Nothing. Only a cow is grazing
It is summer noon
The shades know what a summer it is
Pure shades
Pure shades
A pure bright spot
Babes of feeling! This is the corner for playing
Life is not empty
Kindness , apples , faith
Aye
While there are peonies one can live on
In my heart there is something like a blaze
Of light, like a morning dream
And so restless am I that I feel like running
To the far end of the plains, up to the mountaintop
A voice keeps calling me from afar

9. WATER

Let's not soil the water
Perhaps a pigeon is drinking down there
Or a thrush dipping its wing by a far thicket
Or a pitcher being filled in a village
Let's not soil the water
This stream is perhaps running to a white aspen
To sooth a lonely heart
A dervish my have dipped his dry bread there
A lovely lady has come by the stream
Let's not soil the water
Beautyis doubled
Sweet water !
Clear stream!
People are so affable there !
May their streams bubble!
And their cows produce abundant milk !
Never have i visited their village
Their hedges must bear God's footprints
There, moonshine illuminates the expanse of eloquence
No doubt, the fences are low in yonder village
And its inhabitants know what a flower the peony is
no doubt, blue is blue there
A bud blossoms! People know it
What a glorious village it must be
! May its alleyways overflow with music
The people living by the stream understand water
They did not soil it
Nor should we

10. PLAIN COLOUR

The sky, bluer
The water, bluer
I am on the veranda. Ra'na is by the pool
She is washing clothes
Leaves are falling
It's a sad season , said Mother this morning
Life is an apple , said , One should bite it unpeeled
The next-door woman is weaving nets at her window
Huming to herself
I am reading the Vedas
Making sketches of rocks , fowls , and clouds
A full sunshine
Starlings are coming
Nasturtiums are blossoming
I crack a pomegranate , thinking to myself
! If only the seeds of people's hearts could be seen
The pomegranate juice spurts into my eye : my tears flow
Mother bursts into laughter
So does Ra'na

11. CALL ME

Sweet is your voice
Sweet is the foliage of the strange plant
Grown in the farthest edge of sorrow
Within the space of this silent age
Lonelier am I than the test of a song
Within the scope of the alley’s conception
Come, let me tell you how vast is my loneliness?
My loneliness didn’t predict this ambush of your stature
And this is the characteristic of love
Nobody is here
Come, let us steal life and then
Divide it between two meetings
Together let us pore
The morning of the state of a pebble
Quick, let us see things
The dials of a the fountain clock turns time into dust
Come, melt lake a word in a line of my silence
Come, melt the bright weight of love in my palms
Make me warm
And once upon Kashan’s plain the sky grow clouded
And a shower fell
And chilled men, then behind a rock

12. THE SUN CAME OUT FROM THE BUSHES

The sun came out from the bushes
I met him in the plains of the Nam
Wind sadness watching drunk friend
Her cheeks, her hair jet dewed
We saw a smile tulip fields
Radiation
Pour the clear water
He poured the sound of wind in the groove
Effects of soil mixed with the smell.
He is brilliant and the sound wave
Our eyes are staring at the specter
He was on a dark curtain calls
The designs are hand smoke both
My eyes on her
He said
Pest wilting near her
Plain
Light pulse Sea Songs
He was taking a dark shadow smile

13. A LIGHT DESCENDED ON EARTH

A light descended on earth,
I saw two footprints in the desert sands.
Wherefrom had it come?
And where was it going?
Only two footprints were visible,
Maybe somebody had stopped on the ground by mistake.
Suddenly the footprints started moving,
Light followed the footprints,
The footprints were lost.
I watched myself from the opposite direction:
A cavity was filled by death
And I started to move in my dead corpse,
I could hear the sound of my footsteps from distance,
Maybe I was passing a desert.
I was imbued with a lost expectation.
Suddenly a light fell on my dead body
And I resurrected with anxiety:
Two footprints filled my existence.
Wherefrom had it come?
Where was it going?
Only two footprints were visible
Maybe somebody had stopped on the ground by mistake.
