He was a prophet without a miracle and he had no holy book. His only proof of prophet-hood was an ear of wheat. The Lord has said to him: only your enemies would demand miracles of you, miracles that dazzle the eyes. But the wheat would suffice as a sign for your friends, those men who would readily believe in you.
So the prophet went from town to town and corner from corner and said to the people: look at this wheat. Listen to the story of this ear of wheat. It is sowed and reaped and taken to the mill where it is grounded and crushed until it is made into a fine powder. Then it goes to the baker's hands where it is made into loaves and it is taken to the hot fire of the ovens and by the blessing of the fire it becomes the bread that finds its way to your tables every day.
So do not fear being reaped. Your story is the same as the grains of wheat. Trust in the Miller of the universe as He grinds and crushes and thus purifies you and frees you from all hardships until you are as fine and as polished as fragrant flour.
The Lord bakes the daily bread. Let him take you into His arms and knead until you become fit for the bread. Beware that he might season you with the spice of pain or the salt of hardship but he will always hold you as he kneads and kneads. Bear it!
Every man knows in his heart that life is bound to have difficulties. All would taste the burning fires and all will burn and all will taste the pain. Nobody is ever spared. But is it not much more worthy to do so at your own will? To enter the Great Baker's oven at your own will? To burn into ashes out of devotion, not out of fear.
The prophet told the men: be patient so you can become like the bread. Beautiful loaves suitable for the holiest of feasts. Be patient so you shall become bread that befits the Lord's own table.
And now, for a thousand years, bread comes to men's dinner tables everyday to remind them of the story of the ear of wheat, of the mill and the oven. The bread reminds men of the baking the bread, of sharing the bread and of becoming the bread.
