The building from the Safavid era has neither stone columns carved in artistic way nor tall golden domes.
In the earthquake in 1193 its ceiling collapsed and was renovated after by the deceased Mirza Mehdi Ghazi Tabatabai. Since his tomb is also there the mosque is known as Maghbareh, literally tomb. Ayatollah Shahid Seyyed Mohammad Ali Ghazi Tabatabai's is also buried there. Before that the mosque was known as Shah mosque. The building stands on Darai street , the beginning of Kafashan, shoemakers, bazaar.
