Among the villages in Bonab, the historic village of Sur is located 24 km from the city of Bonab.
The village which is home to a majority of veterans of the sacred defense, the imposed war of Iran, offers exceptional natural tourist highlights.
The village , about 2,500 to 3,000 years, accommodates 25 to 30 households who have created an amazingly beautiful architecture in rocks.
With a population of 350, the village boasts stone works which date back to 3,000 years ago. It is known as a rock architectural masterpiece throughout Iran.
According to some experts, the features of the village are even more considerable than the texture in Kandovan Village.
Currently, the live village contains houses built in the heart of mountains with picks and simple tools.
The houses are placed on two sides of the valley where the village lies and since the residents are into their houses and their style of construction, they don't decide to renovate them anyway.
They have built them without any materials just through carving the rocks. The houses with narrow entrance doors feature large rooms. Each house covers an area of 150 m to 250 m.
In some houses columns were made once the houses were built which were used for supporting the ceilings.
To cover the roofs, domes and holes were used to let the sunlight in. They also built dark dingy rooms and store houses below the houses for keeping the grains.
The houses are constructed next to each other, in a distance of 30 to 40 cm from each other.
Sur known as the rock village is among the best examples of exceptional rock architecture across Iran.
The villagers sheltered there to escape from the enemies in the old days.
