Poldasht, one of the cities in West Azerbaijan Province, is the center
According to the census carried out in 1385, solar calendar, it's population is 8,584 and the people speak in Azeri and Kurdish.Geography
Poldasht lies on the edge of the river of Aras. The river of Zangbar runs exactly through the center of the city and pours into Aras. Unlike Maku, which enjoys mountainous nature, Poldasht has semi-dry climate with very cold winter and hot summers. The city lies in a flat stretch of land between the two fields of Shiblu and Zangeneh. That's where the name comes from. Beyond the river of Aras, it's absolutely mountainous which is in turn one of the interesting and spectacular parts of the region.
The banks of the river of Aras which surround the city are covered in forests and add to its special beauty. They also provide a suitable spot for grazing the animals.
Economy
A small border market exists in the city. Over the last couple of years the problem of water shortage was removed with the construction of Maku Dam and water was transfered to the lands of the region and the surround villages, so luckily agriculture has again flourished.
