Once upon a time . . .
A fox was passing through a desert. It saw a flock of sheep was pasturing there. The fox was very hungry and thought: "I wish I could get a sheep, but I'm not their opponent; wolves and lions and leopards do these things." The fox was thinking this that it heard the sound of a wild bird. Following the sound, it went to the edge of the forest. In search of the bird continued under the trees and suddenly noticed a hiss coming from behind the trees. It went through the trees, looked up and saw an elephant there. The elephant was passing through a narrow path among the trees, and a lion was also coming from the opposite side.
When the lion and the elephant reached together, both stopped. The lion said: "Go away, let me go."
The elephant said: "That is You that have to go aside to let me pass. I propose you to pass through my arms and legs."
The lion said, "I command you, go aside that I would go along. I'm a lion not someone to pass through the arms and legs of anyone else."
The elephant said: "Why do you command in vain? You are lion for yourself not myself. I am also an elephant and greater than you such that you should respect me."
The lion said, "Scale of greatness is not physique. And honor belongs to the one who keeps his own dignity. If you were great and honorable, would not allow to fasten board on your back in order to ride on you. Honor is mine that even in captivity I am steel a lion scaring every one."
The elephant said, "Whoever you are I'm not afraid."
The lion said, "If I scratch your trunk, you will give up the ghost."
The elephant said: "If I fist on your head, you will give up the ghost."
The lion was upset and sprang toward the lion to beat it. The elephant put its trunk under the belly of the lion and lifted it and threw it among the trees and continued going its way.
The head of the lion, thrown among the trees, collided with a tree stump, and it said: "Oh my head," and collapsed.
The fox had watched them and did not dare to speak. When the lion was unconscious, the fox said to himself: "They both had conceit, but now it is proper time for me to go toward the lion and ingratiate to become its dear."
A few moments later the lion woke up and pulled himself through the trees and came to lay in the sun and was upset for the failure that had been occurred for it.
Fox went forward and said: "I greet you, I saw you from afar and I thought, God forbid, you have illness. God willing, disaster is away."
The lion feared that the fox had seen the fail of it. So it asked: "How do you know if I'm boring."
The fox said: "I've read some of the medicine and can read from one's face if he is upset. But I hope I'm wrong and you're good as always."
The lion said: "Haven't you seen an elephant around here?"
The fox said: "No, as long as you are here, no elephant dares to be around here."
When the lion noticed it didn't have to be ashamed, said: "Well done! You are a so clear – headed young person. Also you noticed very well that I am not well from some time ago and can not hunt. So, I have become so weak. But, Where are you from, and to which family do you belong?"
The fox said: "I'm living in this same forest. My father's name is "Saalab". It had much devotion to your family. We always eat as our food the rest of the hunts of lions."
The lion said: "Yes, I knew Saalab. It was my friend, and very well served me. You, too, came at a good time. Now, with these conditions, could you do something for me?"
The fox said, "I am ready to serve. My life be for lion."
The lion said, "Your life be good for yourself. Look, since I am not well, I cannot run following hunt. But, if a prey or something is nearby, even if it be an elephant, I can catch it."
Fox said: "Of course you do so, but elephant meat is not edible."
The lion said: "Yes. But I hear that fox is very clever. If you can bring here an edible animal simply with good language, I will compensate your bother very well. Your honorable father lived also in this same manner."
The fox said: "Of course. I also know my duty well. Meat of kid has much property for you. I am now leaving here with using every trick I know to bring a kid or something similar here. But, you have to try that if I come back with someone, be quiet and motionless pretending that you are quite inoffensive until when I inform you."
The lion said:, "I know, but in addition try to find a cow, and also you have to come back as soos as possible."
The fox said, "I should see who can be cheated. Presently, goodbye." The fox straightly came close to the flock of sheep and due to the fear of people and dog and shepherd hid behind trees and waited until a kid got away from the flock coming toward it. The fox took a few branches in its mouth and began to bounce up and down and turn around itself.
The kid was likely watching the play of the fox from afar. It came nearer and laughingly said to the fox: "You are very happy!"
The fox said, "Why shouldn't I be glad? Which grief should make me worried? God's world is big and water and grass are so abundant. I eat and I play for myself. I do not like those people who think a lot and sit a corner and sorrow. I like all play and laugh and be happy."
The kid said, "That's right, play and happiness. But, eventually, there are wolves, leopards, and enemy in the desert. We should be thinking about our lives and being carefree does not seem good always."
The fox said: "Let's abandon these words. These words belong to the old and the dowdy. We should enjoy our short life. Which animals are wolf and leopard? Have you ever seen any wolves or leopards so far?"
The kid said, "No. I haven't seen them yet. But, they exist."
The fox said, "No, they don't exist. All these words are lie. These words are made and taught by shepherd in order that he could gather the kids himself."
The kid said, "So, do you want to say that no one offends anyone else?"
The fox said, "No, but much fear is not good either. For example probably you were scared from fox beforehand, but now you see that I eat grass like you and don't make trouble for others."
The kid said, "You are right. Furthermore, you are very good – tempered too."
The fox said, "I am always right, but there are some things that nobody believes.
The kid said, "What for example?"
The fox said: "I do not talk about these things with everyone, but I say to you who are a good kid. For example, I've played with a lion today and bit its ear and pulled its tail ..."
The kid asked, "Lion? Predatory lion? Oh God."
The fox said: "Of course the predator lion; but the lion was too sick and exhausted to move. So, I revenged it and make a complete fun of it. It got a little growl, but could not move. And now it is inactive in a corner there. Do you want to see it? "
The kid said, "No. I'm afraid."
The fox said: "What are you afraid of? I say the lion cannot even breathe. I don't want any bad thing for you. If you don't like don't come; we play just here. But I mean, if you come and you've got his ear, then you can pride among all the sheep and kids as being the first person being able to play with lion. If anyone does not believe you, at least yourself will know what a great work you will have done, and will be happy in yourself. "
The kid desired to go and see the lion closely and would be proud among all the sheep.
The fox said, "Hurry up. Let's while we are playing with this squash approach the lion. Don't worry even if you would not want to come close the lion; I am accompanying you; we will play ourselves a little and then we will come back."
The kid said, "I agree." They rolled the squash and threw it and laughed, and while plying get near where the lion had been slept. The kid was afraid when it saw the physique of the lion, so it stopped.
The fox said, "Why don't you come?"
The kid said, "I am thinking that this work is bad for two reasons: First, the lion is a predator animal and I am its bait and food, and so I must be cautious because otherwise may a danger happen and all the people will rightly blame me. Second, if there were no danger and the lion is lethargic, then I should not offend others, and a wise person will not ridicule others without any reason."
The fox said, "Why do you are so naive kid? None of these word has meaning. First you talked about danger. If there was danger, I would not go myself. I experienced and there was no danger. Second you talked about offending people. Isn't eating sheep by lions an offending act? Thus we have the right to ridicule the lion at least one time. Nevertheless, you know yourself. If you don't want don't come. But I'm going to play. I will also make a Ghoor sound in its ear. You remain here watching me."
The fox said this and went near the lion and whispered it, "Be careful and pretend that you are asleep. I have brought this kid here with a lot of trick. So, in order to not losing it you should not become upset with what I'll do and anyway you should remain motionless in order that the kid won't become afraid and come nearer. I will make the sound Ghoor in your ear and will play with your tail; anyway you remain calm in order our plan not be failed."
The kid was watching afar when the fox went and made loudly and repeatedly the sound of Ghoor in the ears and laughed and then bit the lion's ear and then took the lion's tail while was jigging on the lion's body. The the fox called the kid, "Did you see?"
The kid said, "Now I noticed there is no danger." The kid came near while the fox was steel jigging and playing with the lion's tail. The kid said, "I want to make the sound Ghoor Ghoor in the lion's ear too." The fox said, "Do whatever you want."
The kid make its head near the lion's ear and said, "Ghoor". Suddenly the lion took the kid's neck with ca violent movement and said, "Modesty is also a good thing. Now am I right to eat you?"
The kid said, "Oh my God. I'm not guilty. The fox brought me. It taught me."
The lion said, "This is the job of the. But if you were wise would not leave the shepherd and the dog and the flock and would not come alone here to play with lion. You are also guilty because, while I had no trouble for you, you firstly made Ghoor sound in my ear. So you are also a troublesome person. If you were wise, would not accompany the fox and shouted there and the shepherd would make the fox escape. The fox did not bring you, but you came here yourself on your feet."
The fox said, "That's right. I did not bring it forcefully. We were talking and playing and coming. It itself wanted to come to play with lion and then would come back making fun of the sheep that they could not play with lion like it."
