Once upon a time, there was no one other than God. In ancient times there was a thistle picker person who had a wife and two sons. Names of them were Saad and Saeed. The poor thistle picker got up every early morning and went to desert, and in the evening returned back to the city and told the gathered thistles to the market and sold them to earn the least livelihood for his family. Unfortunately his wife died. After a few months he married again in order that she took care of his children.
One day the thistle picker, like always, sold his load of thistle and was going in the market to buy food for home. He had not gone so much yet that he saw a very poor man. He took so much pity to the poor man that he gave him all his money and returned back to his home empty - handed. His wife noticed that her husband had not bought anything. So she became angry and asked him if he had not worked that day. The man answered that he had worked that day like other days. The woman asked so why he had come home empty – handed. The thistle picker answered: "I was going to buy food for you and the children that I saw a poor man. I gave him all money I had." The woman said: "Your act was not good. You indeed donated our livelihood." After uttering this speech, she stood up and took some pieces of dried bread from above the shelf and cleaned them from dust and moisturized them and they began to eat them for their dinner.
The next day the thistle picker tried and picked thistle two times more than before days. He put half of them in a cave in order that the day after he would rest without picking thistle. He took the other half and sold it. In the next morning he comfortably got going toward the stored thistles. But when he arrived into the cave noticed that all the thistles had caught fire and became ash on which a beautiful hen was sitting. The thistle picker caught the hen and took it to his home. He made a warm and soft nest for it in a corner of the kitchen and put the hen into it.
After a few days the wife noticed that the kitchen was bright while there was no window there. She was surprised and went into the kitchen. She saw that the light was emitting from the nest of the hen. She searched and understood that their hen had put golden egg shining in the dark. She was very glad and picked the golden egg and took it to her husband. The thistle picker became very happy. At once took the golden egg to the market and gave it to the Jewish jeweler, Simon, who verified it carefully. After bargaining, he gave one hundred Toomans to the thistle picker and bought it.
The thistle picker got going in the market with a full pocket and bought everything he needed for himself and his wife and children, and then returned back home. After two days, the hen put again a golden egg. The thistle picker said his wife: "Seemingly, this hen puts always golden eggs. If so, I thing I don't have to go to desert every day to work hard for a little money. It will be sufficient that when necessary, to sell a golden egg." His wife agreed and said that he had so far labored so much and now he should rest.
After a while, the thistle picker was again in need of money. So, he a golden egg and took it to Simon. Simon was surprised that how a thistle picker person had obtained those golden eggs. So he asked the thistle picker where he got those eggs from. The thistle picker who was a very naive man answered him that he had caught his hen from that certain cave in the desert. Simon asked him what the figure of the hen was. The thistle picker told him all the signs of the hen in detail. The Jewish jeweler thought it was the bird of welfare that if a person ate its head he would become king and if he ate its heart and liver a bag of jewelry would come under his head every night. So he planned to get that hen out of the hand of the thistle picker person. But then he did not say the thistle picker anything but gave him money to buy the egg.
‌The thistle picker took the money from Simon and went. Since the thistle picker had got much money and was wearing new clothes, decided to go trip. So he delivered the hen to her wife and got going. Simon was waiting to such a day. So, he went to an old woman who was very crafty and deceitful, and said her: "If you do a trick that this woman divorce her husband and marry me, I'll give you one thousand coins of gold." The old woman wanted him to prepare his golden coins.
After saying this, the old woman stood up and got ready and went to the door of the house of the thistle picker. When the wife of the thistle picker opened the door and asked the old woman whom she wanted, the old woman answered: "O my daughter, I was passing here while I was thirsty. So I decided to want you a glass of water." The wife of the thistle picker replied: "No problem. Here you are!" the old woman went into. The wife pulled water from the well and poured it a bowl and handed it to the old woman. The old woman drank the water and began to coaxing. She asked her: "Whose wife are you?" The woman answered that she was the wife of that determined thistle picker.
The old woman touched cheek of the woman and said: " Ah! Wah! Isn't it injustice that a very beautiful woman as you to be the wife of a thistle picker?! You are as beautiful as a full moon! You should have a husband comparable with you. He should be young, reputable, beautiful and rich. Why do you want this thistle picker? Really this ancient proverb is right that sweet grapes will be shared – out to jackal." The wife answered: "I have no way, Mother. My fate is this." The old woman said: "O girl! Don't say so! Prevention of loss from anywhere will be a benefit. Let he go to hell. Leave him. I will find for you a very good husband comparable with you." The old woman continued and insisted on such speeches that at last the woman agreed. At this moment the old woman began to speak about Simon and his goodness. After talking so much about him, she said the woman that as a reality Simon had fallen in her love. The wife became completely imaginative. So, the old woman wanted her to invite Simon to her next night dinner and to cut off the head of the hen having golden eggs and cook it for him.
Tomorrow evening, the wife of the thistle picker killed the hen and cooked it and put it under the basket to become ready for dinner. When her work of cooking finished, she proceeded to clean the room and afterwards paid to her makeup. As she was busy to these, Saad and Saeed came from school and went to kitchen and took out the basket. They wished to eat from its thigh and breast but feared that their stepmother to beat them. So they consented that one of them to eat the head of the hen and the other one to eat its heart and liver, because they thought in a big cooked hen no one noticed its head and heart and liver.
When it was dark, Simon came happily to the wife of the thistle picker. After greeting, he wanted her, due to his hunger, before doing anything else, took him the cooked hen to eat. The woman spread the tablecloth and went and put the cooked hen on a tray and brought it to Simon and offered him. He wanted to pick the head and heart and liver of the hen but they did not exist. So he said: "Why does this hen have no head, no heart, and no liver?" The woman said it was similar to other hens and they should exist. Simon said: "Thus, where are them?" the woman answered: "I don't know. Let me see! Maybe the children have gone for the basket and have eaten them." She stood up and went to the yard and asked the children if they had eaten the head and heart and liver of the hen. The children put their heads down and said nothing due to their fear. She beat them and returned back to Simon and said: "The children of this same not good thistle picker were guilty; they had eaten them. Now, here you are! Please eat from its thigh and breast."
Simon said: "You are unaware. All the property of this hen was in its head and heart and liver. Immediately go and bring the children to tear their stomachs and take them out." The woman said: "OK! This way, I'll also get rid of two petty thieves." She called the children, but there was no reply. So she stood up and went to the yard. She searched here and there, but there was no trace of them. At last, she saw that the door of the house was open and noticed that the two boys had gone. Simon was so sad and angry. He ate the he not at all. When he stood up to go, the woman took his hand and said: "Let the hen goes to hell. I am here." Simon said: "How stupid you are! I have come here for the head and heart and liver of the hen not for you." The woman said: "You are a sly fox! So, you were cheating me from the first." She said this and started to scream. When she was shouting, Simon killed her. But, when he decided to escape, the neighbors reached and arrested him.
‌Now hear from Saad and Saeed. When the children heard Simon and their stepmother were to tear their stomachs, went out of the house and escaped toward the desert. They went and went until they reached a fountain beside of which were some trees. They were so tired that they fell asleep there until the morning.
