Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) left his uncle, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), in Palestine and moved toward Sadum and Amure in the east of Jordan and invited people to monotheism so that God selected him as a prophet.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) resided in the land and understood that people had unpleasant habits there and they were drowned in lust and moral corruptions. They lived through stealing. They were such mean people that they recommended each other to robbery and betrayal. They were adulterous people they did not consider any value for moral principles and values and humanity. Above all of these corruptions, they had followed an ugly and vulgar action that none of tribes had done. They had homosexuality in contrast with natural regulations.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) tried a lot to lead them to right path because he was a devout person that was not able to ignore this unpleasant action. But people did not care about him and did not pay attention to his remarks. Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) prevented them from doing such a vulgar action and stated
''أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ النِّسَاءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ''
''Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant''.
But they stood against him and wanted to make him leave the city instead of accepting his remarks;
''فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا أَخْرِجُوا آلَ لُوطٍ مِّن قَرْیَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌ یَتَطَهَّرُونَ''
''But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure''.
The above verse shows that that people were vicious and impure. They were such people that they did not stop doing any ugly and vulgar actions. And the sin of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) and his family was that they did not do such vulgar actions like them. The dynasty of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) was clean whereas his tribe was not clean. The above verse shows that the tribe of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) was criminal. Only the tribe of Hazrat Lut committed the crime and this means moral deviation of a tribe or a group. They wanted to make a person that wanted to guide them leave the city.
The immoral action of Lut Tribe showed spiritual deviation of its people and they were drowned in that deviation as much as they were deserved to be called '' deviated persons''. They changed basic conceptions of humanity and behaved in contrast with nature and desires of humanity. Little by little, this disease become a part of their inner and followed Stan in order to step into deviational path. A prophet had come to treat their disease and to prevent them from their ugly action, but the tribe disagreed with him and stood against his purity and immaculateness. Moreover, they rejected the advice of prophets and were not afraid of doing vulgar actions clearly.
They were shameless in committing sins as much as a stranger that entered their city was not safe from their shamelessness and said to Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) shamelessly '' you entertain women and leave men to us''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) became disappointed and debated with then with use of reasons. But unfortunately, no one paid attention to him and on the other hand, his situation at home was disorganized.
In fact, his wife had claimed that she had believed in him; therefore, Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) got married her. But his wife did actions against him secretly, provoked people to disagree with him, was a spy for enemies of her husband and gossiped for them until her destiny became like destiny of the wife of Hazrat Nouh (peace be upon him). Quran states
''Allah sets forth, for an example to the Unbelievers, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lut: they were (respectively) under two of our righteous servants, but they were false to their (husbands), and they profited nothing before Allah on their account, but were told: "Enter ye the Fire along with (others) that enter''.
The behavior of his wife at home was excessive pain for him apart from pain of other people. They insulted and irritated Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him), but the way that his wife irritated was more painful. Of course, the way that his wife irritated him was more painful because he saw that his wife had joined his enemies to irritate him. If a man did not feel comfortable and relaxed along with his wife, how would he be able to deal with problems out of home? If all of people around a person are his or he enemies, how would she or she feel?
The situation of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) was in a way that he did not feel relaxed and comfortable neither at home nor out of home. He was hurt at home by his wife and by vicious and mean people out of home. In spite of the fact that Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) knew that his wife was from deviant persons, he was constantly patient with her and tolerated her vicious behaviors.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) invited people for a long time and saw unkind behaviors from them constantly. Because people saw that he was permanent in his beliefs, they said ridiculously
''Do ye indeed approach men, and cut off the highway?- and practise wickedness (even) in your councils?" But his people gave no answer but this: they said: "Bring us the Wrath of Allah if thou tellest the truth''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) could not see that the tribe was criminal anymore. Therefore, he wanted God to help him and to make them perished.
When Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) fought with corrupted people, his uncle, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), was the host of angels and heard annunciation of angels.
After all of the three angels did their mission, they said goodbye to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and went toward Lut City.
It was around the afternoon that the three angels arrived the Sodum Gates. They stood by the stream and were looking at a girl there. Suddenly the girl saw the three men around her and no one had seen men as handsome as them.
One of the angles asked the girl '' do you know where the house of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) is?''
The girl became embarrassed and could not answer it because they asked her the address of the house of her father. She could not introduce herself. Maybe, she did not introduce herself deliberately because she imagined that they were enemies and her father was not able to deal with them. But when she saw that they insisted on it, she said to them in a shamed way '' stay here until I go and come back''. Then she went to house quickly and informed her father of the new guests.
The news descended over Hazar Lut (peace be upon him) like lightening, went to as soon as possible and said '' O' dear brothers! Are you looking for a way so that I can guide you?''
It is surprising that we want to push a person away without knowing what he or she wants from us. But if our intention was right and had good intention, we might behave like Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) in spite of the fact it was in contrast with social appropriate behavior. Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) was afraid that the people of the city saw the three handsome men and they did not leave at peace. Their health was more important than anything else. But the three young men did not answer the question of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him). Therefore, the face of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) turned pale and said to himself '' toady will be a difficult day''. But how could he keep them at peace? Hence, he asked them one more '' are you passerby or guest?''
They answered '' we are guests and have come to do something''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) wanted to express the topic of moral corruption of the people of the city to them in an ironical way. Hence, he said '' I have never seen such sinful people of this city throughout my life''. But they answered nothing.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) had no way out and he had to take them to his house. Hence, he looked down and went forward sadly. He felt anxious and has face showed that he would not like to accept guests. But what would the three young people say about him? I wish they had known what was going on his inner. He had to defend their greatness although he had to make his grace at danger. But he tried once more to make them understand the topic in an ironical way. But they followed him slowly without paying attention to the remarks of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) and asking his meaning. When he recognized that he had to take them to house, he had to do this action secretly. Hence, he looked at them and said '' stay here for a short time so that I go and back '''.
Because the angels did not wanted to put him under pressure any more, they wanted him to come back early and accepted to wait for him in the garden and Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) promised them to come back.
The purpose of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) was to take the guests to his home at dark night and in the early morning, he had them leave there before the sun rose so that no one understood their going and coming back.
Three young men waited for Hazrat Lut until night arrived. Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) took them home as he apologized them a lot. Moreover, he informed his wife of foreigner guests and he said his wife not to tell anyone about the presence of their guests. He said to his wife '' come on! Provide some food for them ''. His wife said '' that's right''.
The wife of Hazrat went to the roof quickly and set fire so that other people could understand that Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) had a stranger guest instead of making dinner for quests. The sign was between the wife of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) and the guests. Whenever guests came to the house of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him), she informed them with fire.
Few minutes later, a lot of persons flocked in the front of the house of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him). When Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) heard the noise of the people, he looked out through the window and saw people coming toward his house in groups. Then he realized who had informed them. Therefore, he looked for his wife, but he did not find her. What Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) was afraid of had happened. What should he do? Did he let people behave with his guests however they liked? He never let them behave his guests however they liked even if he lost his life. Hence, he went among people so that he could talk to them in spite of the fact that he was not hopeful to them, but he had to try best to provoke their feelings. He had decided to ignore the honor of his pretty and demure daughters and to have them marry their dignitaries so that his guests could survive and his honor was preserved.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) wanted to ignore everything on the behalf of these unknown persons because they were his guests and he had to defend them. This kind of test devoted prophets and only prophets were able to survive such tests.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) went to people and called out '' marry my daughters that are more pure for you''.
A group said '' why are uttering such nonsense remarks?''
When Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) talked about immaculateness, his meaning was immaculateness of body and soul and these two cases can be impended when a man and a woman get married and a marriage will lead to social relationships and humanity.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) not only expressed advantages of purity and immaculateness, but he also invited them to believe in unity of God and wanted them to fear from God. In spite of the fact that his remarks were short, they were meaningful and eloquent;
''وَجَاءَهُ قَوْمُهُ یُهْرَعُونَ إِلَیْهِ وَمِن قَبْلُ كَانُوا یَعْمَلُونَ السَّیِّئَاتِ ۚ قَالَ یَا قَوْمِ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِی هُنَّ أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِی ضَیْفِی ۖ أَلَیْسَ مِنكُمْ رَجُلٌ رَّشِیدٌ''
''And his people came rushing towards him, and they had been long in the habit of practising abominations. He said: "O my people! Here are my daughters: they are purer for you (if ye marry)! Now fear Allah, and cover me not with shame about my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) invited and guided people to the right path and had them fear from a God that sees and hears everything and becomes furious. In fact, a wise person should avoid such anger because torture resulting from this anger cannot be tolerated by human.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) entered another door that was necessity of preserving of respect of a guest. In fact, this respect should be preserved and should not ignore because it will lead to disgrace and meanness. He continues
''And his people came rushing towards him, and they had been long in the habit of practising abominations. He said: "O my people! Here are my daughters: they are purer for you (if ye marry)! Now fear Allah, and cover me not with shame about my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) did whatever he could so that reason is left to him. He reminded them their nature, religion and wisdom. Was anything left to them to say?
Hence, Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) became quite so that he saw what other people said. Their reaction was quick. Their laughing make the ear of the sky deaf and their sneering made the sky cut. Some of them called out
''They said: "Well dost thou know we have no need of thy daughters: indeed thou knowest quite well what we want''.
In such a moment, Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) felt disappointed, weak and defeated. He as a stranger entered the city and did not have any tribes to support him and did not have any sons to defend him. Therefore, he asked himself what he could do.
The remarks of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) did not influence of people and their deviant hearts. Their stupid mind had not understood it. They were same persons that had come to achieve their vicious purpose enthusiastically.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) came back home right away, locked the door and reclined behind the door. He had started at the guests and it seemed as he said to them '' you see how weak I am and have no companions. I knew such persons and wanted your health''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) heard behind the door that the people were laughing loudly and it hurt him that they were knocking the door. He was shivering from fear and grief. The three young men were drowned in talking as much as they did not see and did not hear anything. But suddenly Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) recognized specific chastity in their face. As a matter of fact, who were they?
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) looked at their face once more and saw same comfort in their face. ''Do they think that they are completely safe in his support, or they are sure about his wisdom and are sure that he can solve any problems with his wisdom? Therefore, they are teasing on each other?
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) decided to resort to God in order to get rid of the problem. He murmured '' O' God! Don't they see that I cannot support myself? Therefore, why do they imagine that I can defend them?'' Suddenly, he expressed without will
''He said: "Would that I had power to suppress you or that I could betake myself to some powerful support''.
In time of problems and difficulties, a person wishes to find a way out, but Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) wished that the three young men helped him, or there was someone to support him and his guests, or he could find a safe place to resort there and to get rid of the irritation of the people.
The plight did not cause that Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) forgot that he was a prophet and God did not leave his prophets alone, but he sends friends and companions to help them, or he keeps them safe.
When Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) became intolerant from difficulty, suddenly the guests stood up, removed his grief and said
(''(The Messengers) said: "O Lut! We are Messengers from thy Lord! By no means shall they reach thee! now travel with thy family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but thy wife (will remain behind): To her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: Is not the morning nigh''.
Therefore, the youths were not guests, but they were angels from God in order to do their mission.
Hazart Lut (peace be upon him) did not find any chances to ask them their mission because the door was broken under pressure of the people and a lot of persons entered the house.
The purpose of the people was to find the three angles. Hence, Gabriel made them blind and they could not recognize whether they were at home or out of home.
They had come to take the guests of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) by force, but exalted God make their eyes blind. Quran states
The angels looked at Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) and said
(''(The Messengers) said: "O Lut! We are Messengers from thy Lord! By no means shall they reach thee! now travel with thy family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but thy wife (will remain behind): To her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: Is not the morning nigh''.
What kind of torture should Lut Tribe wait for and they suffer from it as soon as they look at it?
As the angles had said, Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) along with his wife and daughters left the city at night, saved themselves from danger and walked until the dawn. Suddenly, the voice of the explosion was heard and lightening covered all over there. The promise of God was to be implemented in the dawn;
''فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِیَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَیْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّیلٍ مَّنضُودٍ''
''When Our Decree issued, We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay, spread, layer on layer''.
Therefore, the city of Lut was eradicated from the world and no sign was left from it.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) accompanied his wife with him so that she could survive, but she was one of tyrant persons and was not deserved to be survived along with other believers. God has remembers believers in this way
''فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِیهَا مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ''
''Then We evacuated those of the Believers who were there''.
This tradition of God always exists;
''فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِیهَا غَیْرَ بَیْتٍ مِّنَ الْمُسْلِمِینَ''
''But We found not there any just (Muslim) persons except in one house''.
As a consequence, no sign was left from Lut Tribe, but its effect in a certain place is a sign for all of people in all of eras.
After the wife of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) perished, he along with his daughters went to Palestine so that he could join his uncle, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him). When he told the story of his tribe to Hazrat Ibrahim, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) nodded his head and stated '' I know what happened to the tribe of unbelievers. I wanted the angles to give more chance to them, but the will of God had been determined before my request. God is aware and sees everything and knows how to deal with his persons''.
Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) spend the rest of his life preaching and inviting people until his death arrived.
Quran has expressed the story of Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) in different stories;
And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty
(We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity).
Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant.
Or, Who has created the heavens and the earth, and Who sends you down rain from the sky? Yea, with it We cause to grow well-planted orchards full of beauty of delight: it is not in your power to cause the growth of the trees in them. (Can there be another) god besides Allah? Nay, they are a people who swerve from justice.
Now do thou throw thy rod!" But when he saw it moving (of its own accord)as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: "O Moses!" (it was said), "Fear not: truly, in My presence, those called as messengers have no fear.
Now put thy hand into thy bosom, and it will come forth white without stain (or harm): (these are) among the nine Signs (thou wilt take) to Pharaoh and his people: for they are a people rebellious in transgression.
But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, "Drive out the followers of Lut from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure.
But We saved him and his family, except his wife; her We destined to be of those who lagged behind.
And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not).
But Lut had faith in Him: He said: "I will leave home for the sake of my Lord: for He is Exalted in Might, and Wise.
And he said: "For you, ye have taken (for worship) idols besides Allah, out of mutual love and regard between yourselves in this life; but on the Day of Judgment ye shall disown each other and curse each other: and your abode will be the Fire, and ye shall have none to help.
So he smiled, amused at her speech; and he said: "O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours, which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee: And admit me, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants.
(Remember also) the ´Ad and the Thamud (people): clearly will appear to you from (the traces) of their buildings (their fate): the Evil One made their deeds alluring to them, and kept them back from the Path, though they were gifted with intelligence and skill.
Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): It was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them:" They injured (and oppressed) their own souls.
And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam).
They ask thee to hasten on the Punishment (for them): had it not been for a term (of respite) appointed, the Punishment would certainly have come to them: and it will certainly reach them,- of a sudden, while they perceive not.
If indeed thou ask them who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law), they will certainly reply, "Allah". How are they then deluded away (from the truth).
Allah enlarges the sustenance (which He gives) to whichever of His servants He pleases; and He (similarly) grants by (strict) measure, (as He pleases): for Allah has full knowledge of all things.
Now, if they embark on a boat, they call on Allah, making their devotion sincerely (and exclusively) to Him; but when He has delivered them safely to (dry) land, behold, they give a share (of their worship to others.
(And to preach thus), ´Seek ye the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance; that He may grant you enjoyment, good (and true), for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding grace on all who abound in merit! But if ye turn away, then I fear for you the penalty of a great day.
He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days - and His Throne was over the waters - that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct. But if thou wert to say to them, "Ye shall indeed be raised up after death", the Unbelievers would be sure to say, "This is nothing but obvious sorcery.
Perchance thou mayest (feel the inclination) to give up a part of what is revealed unto thee, and thy heart feeleth straitened lest they say, "Why is not a treasure sent down unto him, or why does not an angel come down with him?" But thou art there only to warn! It is Allah that arrangeth all affairs.
Can they be (like) those who accept a Clear (Sign) from their Lord, and whom a witness from Himself doth teach, as did the Book of Moses before it,- a guide and a mercy? They believe therein; but those of the Sects that reject it,- the Fire will be their promised meeting-place. Be not then in doubt thereon: for it is the truth from thy Lord: yet many among men do not believe.
Who doth more wrong than those who invent a life against Allah? They will be turned back to the presence of their Lord, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied against their Lord! Behold! the Curse of Allah is on those who do wrong.
But the chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "We see (in) thee nothing but a man like ourselves: Nor do we see that any follow thee but the meanest among us, in judgment immature: Nor do we see in you (all) any merit above us: in fact we thing ye are liars.
At length, behold! there came Our command, and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! We said: "Embark therein, of each kind two, male and female, and your family - except those against whom the word has already gone forth,- and the Believers." but only a few believed with him.
The son replied: "I will betake myself to some mountain: it will save me from the water." Noah said: "This day nothing can save, from the command of Allah, any but those on whom He hath mercy! "And the waves came between them, and the son was among those overwhelmed in the Flood.
The word came: "O Noah! Come down (from the Ark) with peace from Us, and blessing on thee and on some of the peoples (who will spring) from those with thee: but (there will be other) peoples to whom We shall grant their pleasures (for a time), but in the end will a grievous penalty reach them from Us.
They said: "O Salih! thou hast been of us! a centre of our hopes hitherto! dost thou (now) forbid us the worship of what our fathers worshipped? But we are really in suspicious (disquieting) doubt as to that to which thou invitest us.
But when he saw their hands went not towards the (meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not: We have been sent against the people of Lut.
And his wife was standing (there), and she laughed: But we gave her glad tidings of Isaac, and after him, of Jacob.
She said: "Alas for me! shall I bear a child, seeing I am an old woman, and my husband here is an old man? That would indeed be a wonderful thing.
They said: "Dost thou wonder at Allah´s decree? The grace of Allah and His blessings on you, o ye people of the house! for He is indeed worthy of all praise, full of all glory.
When fear had passed from (the mind of) Abraham and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with us for Lut´s people.
For Abraham was, without doubt, forbearing (of faults), compassionate, and given to look to Allah.
O Abraham! Seek not this. The decree of thy Lord hath gone forth: for them there cometh a penalty that cannot be turned back.
Now when (the embassy) came to Solomon, he said: "Will ye give me abundance in wealth? But that which Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay it is ye who rejoice in your gift.
Said one who had knowledge of the Book: "I will bring it to thee within the twinkling of an eye!" Then when (Solomon) saw it placed firmly before him, he said: "This is by the Grace of my Lord!- to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! and if any is grateful, truly his gratitude is (a gain) for his own soul; but if any is ungrateful, truly my Lord is Free of all Needs, Supreme in Honour
She was asked to enter the lofty Palace: but when she saw it, she thought it was a lake of water, and she (tucked up her skirts), uncovering her legs. He said: "This is but a palace paved smooth with slabs of glass." She said: "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul: I do (now) submit (in Islam), with Solomon, to the Lord of the Worlds.
They said: "Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his people, and that we shall then say to his heir (when he seeks vengeance): ´We were not present at the slaughter of his people, and we are positively telling the truth.
And We gave (Abraham) Isaac and Jacob, and ordained among his progeny Prophethood and Revelation, and We granted him his reward in this life; and he was in the Hereafter (of the company) of the Righteous.
And (remember) Lut: behold, he said to his people: "Ye do commit lewdness, such as no people in Creation (ever) committed before you.
Do ye indeed approach men, and cut off the highway?- and practise wickedness (even) in your councils?" But his people gave no answer but this: they said: Bring us the Wrath of Allah if thou tellest the truth ''.
He said: "O my Lord! help Thou me against people who do mischief
When Our Messengers came to Abraham with the good news, they said: "We are indeed going to destroy the people of this township: for truly they are (addicted to) crime.
He said: "But there is Lut there." They said: "Well do we know who is there : we will certainly save him and his following,- except his wife: she is of those who lag behind
And when Our Messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account, and felt himself powerless (to protect) them: but they said: "Fear thou not, nor grieve: we are (here) to save thee and thy following, except thy wife: she is of those who lag behind
For we are going to bring down on the people of this township a Punishment from heaven, because they have been wickedly rebellious.
When Our messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account and felt himself powerless (to protect) them. He said: "This is a distressful day.
And his people came rushing towards him, and they had been long in the habit of practising abominations. He said: "O my people! Here are my daughters: they are purer for you (if ye marry)! Now fear Allah, and cover me not with shame about my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man.
They said: "Well dost thou know we have no need of thy daughters: indeed thou knowest quite well what we want.
He said: "Would that I had power to suppress you or that I could betake myself to some powerful support
(The Messengers) said: "O Lut! We are Messengers from thy Lord! By no means shall they reach thee! now travel with thy family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but thy wife (will remain behind): To her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: Is not the morning nigh.
When Our Decree issued, We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay, spread, layer on layer.
Marked as from thy Lord: Nor are they ever far from those who do wrong.
At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut.
He said: "Ye appear to be uncommon folk
They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt.
We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth.
Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered
And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning
The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men
Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not
But fear Allah, and shame me not
They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry
He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act.
Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and from
But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning
And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay
The people of Lut rejected (his) warning
We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut´s household: them We delivered by early Dawn
As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks
And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning
And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning
Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them
So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning
So also was Lut among those sent (by Us
Behold, We delivered him and his adherents, all
Except an old woman who was among those who lagged behind
Then We destroyed the rest
Verily, ye pass by their (sites), by day
And by night: will ye not understand
We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you
We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you
And his people gave no answer but this: they said, "Drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure
But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind
And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): Then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime
The people of Lut rejected the messengers
Behold, their brother Lut said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah
I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust
So fear Allah and obey me
No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds
Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males
And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)
They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out''.
He said: "I do detest your doings
O my Lord! deliver me and my family from such things as they do
So We delivered him and his family,- all
Except an old woman who lingered behind.
But the rest We destroyed utterly.
We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not).
And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people.
And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous.
