The garden of MOHTASHEM and the Pavilion mansion or the city park of Rasht, is Rasht's oldest park. It is located on the southern side of Rasht city and beside the GOHAR ROUD River in Hafez Street. It has two mechanized parts and a garden. Garden of MOHTASHEM which today is the main park of Rasht city, dates back to the reign of NASERULDIN SHAH of QAJAR time
The main owner of this park was Akbar Khan BIGLERBEIGI (died on1307 AH). He was one of the richest owners of Iran during the NASERI era. He was holding customs of northern Iran. This park came to the only surviving daughter, after the death of Akbar Khan through the inheritance. She married her own cousin, SADEGH KHAN AKBAR MOHTASHEM-OL MOLK (the next SARDAR MOTAMED). And from this date, the garden was famed as MOHTASHEM garden. Construction of summer mansion or pavilion mansion was started by him. The accuracy of the stowage and observance of spacing seedling, landscaping and utilizing the scientific method of building public gardens, has followed to formation of one of the most beautiful and largest gardens in Iran in the late 13th century (AH). The initial size of the garden was several times bigger than the size of its current area, but gradually diminished with the development of the city and its streets.
The age of the MOHTASHEM garden, which is the main park of Rasht city, dates back to the reign of NASERULDIN SHAH of QAJAR period.
Pavilion mansion is a polygonal building, which gives a beautiful appearance to the building and prevents the similarity of its outward appearance. This building from outside, looks three floors, while it has four floors from inside. Around the building, in the first and second floors, there are eighteen wooden pillars built on the roof and balcony of the second floor. The tallest room in this mansion has eight corners and on each side there are windows that open into the garden. This mansion was the residence of rulers and commanders of Rasht for a long time. The similarity of the upper floor of this building with the cylinder-shaped hat is the cause of its being known as pergola.
GOHARROUD River passes with a special curvature, through the south of the building and garden and makes the beauty of the surroundings double. The park also has a beautiful natural pond with two fountains, which has been added to the charm of old trees.
