Saeid Marouf

Mir Saeid Marouf is our country’s volleyball player, who was present as the Capitan and the best setter in at 2014 World League in Italy and the 2014 World Championships in Poland.

• Biography

Mir Saeid Marouf was born in West Azerbaijan province, Urmia, Sunday, October 19, 1985.
In an interview with the "Song of Life" magazine, he spoke about his interest about sport: "I did a lot of sports, even I have medals: I am the third winner of Cross-Country Running in West Azarbaijan, Basketball Championship, the third winner of handball in school, but finally I played volleyball by encourages of my uncles."
In 1392, he was elected as the captain of our national team. In addition to the national team, he was in “Shahrdari Urmia” and “Matin Varamin”; he played as the Capitan of “Matin Varamin” team in volleyball competitions AFC Champions League and they could be the champions. In the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship 2013, Marouf was selected as the most valuable player. He was introduced as the best setter in at 2014 World League in Italy and the 2014 World Championships in Poland.

• Saeid Marouf, captain of the Iran national team

In April 1392, Volleyball Federation officials introduced the name of Saeid Marouf as the new captain of the national team instead of "Alireza Nadi. To start the camp of in March 1391, "Julio Velasco" the former head coach of our national volleyball team, introduced a list in which, "Alireza Nadi" was absent. It was questionable for everyone, when reporters asked about the reason for the decision, Velasco stated rest as the main reason for removing "Nadi" in the list. After that, in March 1392, the name of Saeid Marouf was introduced as the new captain of the national team instead of "Alireza Nadi.
"Nadi" who had not retired from the national team, backed to the national team in July 1393 by inviting "Slobodan Kovač" head coach of the national team.
Marouf in response to a question appointing national team captain according to the presence of Alireza Nadi, said: “the Coach and federation officials decide about this issue, there is no difference that me or Alireza Nadi be the Capitan, but, certainly if Nadi returns to the team, he will be the Capitan according to his experience. Again, this depends on the coach and officials."

• The presence of Marouf in the Asian Volleyball Championship

Volleyball team, "Matin Varamin" after winning the 1392 Volleyball League got the presence license of 2014 AFC Championship. Therefore, Saeid Marouf, the captain of the team and other players traveled to Manila, Philippines in 1393 to win the fifteenth Asian Cup 16. "Matin Varamin" team in the preliminary round of the tournament competed with Japan, Lebanon, Vietnam Group B.
This team after winning the China team achieved the license to compete in the Fifteenth final of the Asian Volleyball Club Championship. "Matin Varamin" players in the last step competed with "Rayyan of Qatar," and after winning acquired the shares of the World Championships.

• Marouf, the national team player of Shahrdari Urmia

In July 1393, Marouf signed a one-year contract with Shahrdari Urmia team. Previously, he has worked with his hometown team, after the suggestions of Turkey and Italy teams, he decided to play for Shahrdari Urmia.

• The most valuable player

The seventeenth Men's Championship in 2013 in Dubai, United Arabic Emirates, and (October 1392) was finished by championship of Iran's national volleyball team. Our national team in the final of this tournament won the South Korean and crowned continental champions.
After the end of the course of this competition, the best players of each post were introduced and four Iranians gave awards in 5 posts. Accordingly, Said Marouf received the awards for the best setter and the most valuable player in Asia and “Amir Ghafour” as the best spiker, “Mohammad Mousavi” as the best defender and “Farhad Zarif” as the best receiver, respectively.
In addition to this championship, our country achieved the license to present in the 2013 World Championships, November 2013 Japan.
The national volleyball team on the last day won the tournament against Japan with 3 to zero scores and compete with Brazil, Russia, Italy, America and Japan and received the fourth place. In the tournament of Iran and Japan, Saeid Marouf was selected as the best player of the match.

• Marouf, supporter of the United Nations

At a ceremony in October 1392, some leading figures and indicators of arts, culture and sports and the presence of some representatives and ambassadors of various countries were introduced as the supporter of UN World Food Programme in the fight against poverty and hunger in our country and officially began their activities.
Popular people and indicators of arts, culture and sports such as “Ali Daei”, Hamid Sourian [8], “Behdad Salimi”, Saeid Marouf and etc. were introduced by contemporary artists cooperative to the World Food Programme WFP under the auspices of the United Nations as the helpers in the fight and eradicate poverty and hunger.
Secretary of the Department of International Policy Council of contemporary artists in this regard, said: "This is the beginning of the great and global activities that we form with the National Iranian artists and athletes and certainly, we know that with the high capacity of power and influence in art and the great figures of national heroes, this motion within a short time will become a global trend."

• The best setter of World League

Saeid Marouf was selected as the best setter in at 2014 World League in Italy. Our country’s national volleyball team won the fourth title in the 2014 World League. At the end of the period of competition, top players were introduced. Among them Saeid Marouf was introduced as the best setter.
In this tournament, America was in the first place, Brazil in the second place, and Italy in the third place.
After introduction of Saeid Marouf as the best setter, he declared: “I think, team is more important than the individual. We are excited that Iran in this tournament was in the top 4 teams, many people did not think that Iran be so successful. The 2014 World League was one of the best tournaments for all players. I am glad that all players were the best in their posts and their help and efforts, a great honor was shaped for Iran. I kiss the hands of all people who helped us.”

• The best setter of World Championship

Saeid Marouf was selected as the best setter in the 2014 World Championships in Poland (September 1393). After 3 competition of the first stage of the 2014 World Cup, Saeid Marouf, Sayyed Mohammad Mousavi, and Farhad Ghaemi were introduced. As the best setter and the best defender and the best receiver.
At the end of the second round of the competition, Saeid Marouf and Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi still were the best setter and the best defender.
In this competition, Iran was one of the 6 best team in the world.

• The reaction of Marouf about "Velasco’s" goodbye

Saeid Marouf in February 1392 in response to Say Goodbye "Julio Velasco," the head coach of the national volleyball team, said: "I think the worst thing, that can be done at this point, is to compare the current and former national team. I heard in sporting and non-sporting spaces that everyone seek to compare Velasco with the new coach who is coming. We had very good days with Velasco and we spent a good time when he was responsible for guiding the national team. It is natural that anyone comes instead of Velasco will have a very hard work; especially, in this period of time that we have important matches ahead, every great coach will have a tough task ahead. Nobody denies the efforts, which have been done by Velasco in Iran and everyone, knows his role in the success of the Iranian Volleyball. However, it is good to know that all national volleyball team is not dependent on any individual...
Federation have not decided about these changes and it was Velasco who took the decision and forced the Federation to accept his decision. Now we need to provide the space and try not to have too negative perspective."

• Attending the funeral of the master

Funeral of the master "Hussein Maadani", Volleyball coach, was held in August 1393, in Volleyball home with the presence of some of the national players, pioneers, sports journalists, relatives and friends. Hussein Maadani’s procession was done on the hands of his students, Saeid Marouf, Mohammad Mousavi, Shahram Mahmoudi, Amir Ghafour, Hamze Zarrini, Mostafa Sharifat, Farhad Ghaemi, Alireza Nadi, Rahman Davoudi and also, his co-players Peyman Akbari, Behnam Mahmoudi, Mahmoud Afshardoost, Behrouz Ataei, Masoud Armat and also, his coaches Majid Argi, Hossein Ali Mehranpour and etc.
Saeid Marouf referring to the death of "Hussein Maadani", said: "Hussein Maadani’s vacancies was evident in the final stage of the World League. Absolutely, his vacancies will be felt in other competitions. He left us alone. I hope that we always keep his memory alive with our good games.”
