Director General of the Conservation and Management of Hunting and Fishing Office in the Environment Protection Organization, Ali Teimuri, announced a new national plan to make insurance for Persian leopards and said: among the basic operational plans for environment protection is to guarantee this species. He added: factors like wide distribution of leopards in the land, the size and diversity of their food, their diverse habitats such as forests and impassable mountains and high mortality rate have made it different from the Persian cheetah to plan, implement and supervise their insurance.
He elaborated : taking into account their conflicts with domestic animal , there were negotiations held with major experienced insurance companies some of which weren’t able to meet the organization’s expectations and some expressed readiness and examined the ways to undertake insurance of the animal after sessions with the Specialized Institute for Asian leopard Studies. Declaring that 71% of the leopards mortality rate is due to hunting and food poisoning, based on the studies in a 4-year period, he predicted: once the insurance model is made, one of the most unprecedented insurance plans and procedures for organizing world huge feline damage and conflicts will be implemented which can reduce the casualties of the precious species. According to the EPO website, actions were taken since 1392 to study and make a national operational plan to save the leopard in the country and it is expected to come to an end by the end of the first half of the year.
