The Natural History Museum in Ardebil offers a beautiful symbol of virgin nature of the whole province in a small scale for the nature lovers. It represents a variety of animals species in taxidermy.
The museum is located on the eastern edge of Shurabil Lake and 17 species of mammals, 85 species of birds, 20 species of fish, 12 species of reptiles and amphibians as well as various types of insects and plants are kept there. Also, a wide variety of stones and fossils are showcased.
The Museum, which came into operation in Mordad, 1381, covers an area of 4500 square m and receives 100,000 visitors each year.
What has survived in the history of the planet Earth on the diversity of animals shows the philosophy of glorious creation in the magnificent universe.
The building is among the cultural, social, scientific, and research centers which would play a significant role in making all classes of the society familiar with ecologies and represent manifestations of biologic diversity. It would quench the desire for recognizing animals and stimulate their thought for protection of different species of creatures.
The museum consists of 6 different sections of exhibit, study, educational, artistic, research and recreational center.

The section of creation and archeology offers visitors the state of the planet Earth in the solar system, different periods in geology and the stages of life evolution in biological communities.
3 samples of the wildlife habitats in the province , i. e. the fields, wetlands and mountains, are designed in 2 sets which try to display the natural environment in a way that reflects the relation between the animal and its surrounding environment.
The majority of the represented animals contain identifications and information tags.
The living species of aquatics of the province and other aquatic ecosystems of the country, decorative and colorful fish are exhibited in 13 aquariums of the museum.
There is a unit where environmental books and magazines on natural environment as well as environmental pollution are displayed to viewers and different types of posters, brochures, and essays are offered for them to study. Recently, the video projectors center has been established to provide them with opportunities to watch films and images on the wildlife and nature identity of the province and the whole country and educate them, promoting their knowledge and environment culture.
The museum is housed in a delightful environment with a striking landscape with the water ecosystem of Shurabil Lake. It is not only a place to ponder and think on creation but it also offers visitors quiet places for rest and relaxation on its upper storeys.
