The village of Rend lies 15 km from the free trade zone and industrial spot of Maku. The luxuriant village stands on the slope of a mountain and bursting mineral springs have made it even more famous.
The village's population exceeds 540 according to the general census carried out in 1390, solar calendar. Among its beautiful springs are, Kand Bulaghi, Ghamishli Bulaghi, Jilli Bulaghi, Gul Oiz, and Karbalai Nazar Bulaghi which flow on the northern heights of the village.
When Urartus ruled over the country the village, as a strategic place, played a significant role in retaining their territory as Petrovsky has mentioned a castle named Rent in his book, Th History of Urartu. According to him the castle was located 9 km from Maku. Today only there are its ruins.
The village enjoys cold winters and mild summers. Thanks to the river of Sari Su and small currents it's always humid. The villagers make ends meet through gardening, farming, and raising livestock. The village is encompassed by gardens full of cherry, sour cherry, peach, apricot, and walnut trees.
The vegetation in the heights and throughout the village include, Borage , thyme , violet , hibiscus flower , mountain tea , mountain sorrel , kak Outi , nettle , camel thorn , licorice and so on. The hardwood trees in the highlands have also add to its beauty. The green village was chosen as the selective village for tourism in the free trade zone of Maku by the respectable officials of the zone in 1393, solar calendar.
Among the plans of the organization of free trade zone of Maku for development of the striking village are building a guest house for travellers and sightseers, restoration of water mill in the village, making walking trails, traditional hotels for tourists, birds garden, eateries and restaurants to serve authentic and local dishes, ski resort, and rock climbing opportunities.
The Islamic Council and Dehdari of the village have formed a team to embrace the Norouz guests, allocating 15 villas which serve them free of charge.
