In the time of the caliphate of Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him), a man that lived in the mountain went to Hajj with his servant. On the way, the servant had committed a fault, his master hit him. The servant became angry and said to his master '' you are not my master, but I am you master and you are my master''. They threatened and said to each other '' O' the enemy of God! Keep your ideas until we arrive Kufa and take you to the presence of Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him)''. When they arrived Kufa, both of them went to the presence of Imam Ali (peace be upon him). The master said '' this person is my servant and had committed a fault and I hit him. That's why, he has refused to obey me and consider me as your servant''.
The other one said '' I swe ar God that he is telling a lie. He is my servant and my father has sent him to guide and train me the matters of Hajj. He is cupid of my properties and considers me as his servant in order that he can usurp my properties''.
Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him) said to them '' go and get along with each other. Come to me in the morning and express facts yourself ''.
When the morning arrived, Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him) said to Ghanbar '' make two holes on the wall'' Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him)
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said to them '' stand up. I know you are not telling the truth. Then he said to them '' put your heads in to the holes and said to Ghanbar '' bring me the sword of the messenger of God (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) so that I cut the neck of the servant. Hearing such remarks, the servant shivered and took out of his head involuntarily and the other one kept his head.
Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him) looked at the servant and said '' don't you claim that you are not a servant?''
He answered'' yes, I do. This man has tyrannized me and I have committed such a fault''.
Then Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) took a promise from his master that he would not hurt him anymore and Imam Ali (peace be upon him) had the servant surrender against his master.
A conspiracy that revealed:
In the time of the caliphate of Umar, two persons left two things to a woman to keep and recommended her to give them back in the presence of both of them.
After a while, one of them went to the woman and claimed that his friend had died and demanded them. At first, the woman refused to give it back, but after the man referred to her a lot, she gave it back to him. After a while, the other man came and demanded the trust. The woman told the story to him; therefore, they argued with each other. Then they went to Umar and Umar said to the woman '' you are responsible for this trust. Amir Al-Momenin(peace be upon him) was in the meeting. The woman wanted Umat to let Imam Ali (peace be upon him) judge between them. Umar said '' O' Ali! Judge between them''. Amir Al-Momenin, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), looked at the man and said '' haven't you and your friend recommended this woman not to give it back if they come to her separately?'' now the trust is with me. Go and bring the other person with you and receive it. Consequently, he revealed their conspiracy because Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) knew that they had cooperated with each other so that each one demanded it separately and in this way they had her compensate for both of them.
After Jamal War finished, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) entered Basra. When he was in Basra, he visited one of his friends named '' Ala Bin Ziyad Harethi''. This man had a magnificent house. As soon as Imam Ali (peace be upon him) saw such a great house, he said to him '' what is the use of such a large house for you whereas you need a large house in the doomsday? However, if you want, you can have this large house as a means in order to have a large house in the doomsday if you dine guests here, visit your relatives, take care of the rights of the Muslims in this house, reveal rights in this house and do not use this house for personal benefits''. Ala said '' O' Amir Al-Momenin! I have a complaint from my brother, Asem, in your presence''. He asked '' what is your complaint?''
'' He has left the world, wears worn clothes, is aloof and has left everything in the world''. Imam Ali said '' summon him''.
They summoned Asem and brought him. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) looked at him and said '' O' enemy! Satan has made you lose your mind? Why didn't you be kind with your wife and children? Do you imagine that God that has made his pure blessings halal for you does not like that you use them? You are smaller than what you think for God''. Asem said '' O' Amir Al-Momenin! you are like me because you do not would like to live easily, wear soft clothes and eat delicious food. Hence, I am living like you and follow that same way that you follow. You are wrong; I am different from you. I have a position that you don't have. I am the Imam and the leader of the government. The duty of governor and leader is something else. God has recommended that governors live like the lowest people in the life. They should live in the way that poor people live so that the difficulty of poverty does not affect them. Hence, my duty is different from yours''.
Amir Al-Momenin(peace be upon him) entered the mosque and suddenly he saw a youth crying as others were consoling him. The youth came to Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him). Then Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said to the youth '' why are crying?'' The youth said '' O' Amir Al-Momenin! I am crying due to the rule that Sharih as a judge has issued and I do not know what it is based on?'' He told the story in this way '' My father had travelled with this group and had a lot of wealth with him. These persons came back from their journey, but my father did not come back. When I ask them about my father, they say '' he has died''. When I ask them about his wealth, they say '' he has left nothing''. I took them to Sharih and after he had them swear God that they had told the truth, he freed them even though I know that my father has left a lot of wealth and properties. Amir Al-Momenin(peace be upon them) said to them '' come back to Sharih as soon as possible so that I myself look out to the problem of this youth. They came back and Imam Ali (peace be upon him) came to Sharih and said to him '' how have you judged among them?'' Sharih said '' O' Amir Al-Momenin! This youth claimed that his father had travelled with this group and had a lot of properties with him, but his father did not come back with them. When he asked them about his father, they said to him'' his father has died''. I said to the youth '' Do you have a witness for your claim?'' He answered '' no, I don't''. Therefore, I had this group swear God that they told the truth. Then I freed them. Amir Al-Momenin(peace be upon him) said to Sharih '' I am sorry that you are issuing a rule in this way in relation to this event''. Sharih asked '' what's its rule?'' Imam Ali(peace be upon him) said''I swear God that I judge among them in the way that no one has done it except Hazrat Davud so far. O' Ghanbar! Have police officers come here''. Ghanbar brought them. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) had an officer for each one. Then he stared at their faces and said '' what you imagine that I am not aware of how are you doing? Do you in the world
you have murdered your father and if I do not know it, I am stupid. Then he said to the officers '' cover their faces and separate them from each other. Have each one sit beside pillar of the mosque as you had covered their faces. Then Imam Ali (peace be upon him) summoned his secretary, Abdullah Bin Abi Rafe, and said to him '' bring pencil and paper. He sat in the meeting of judge and other sat across from him. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said to the people '' whenever I say Takbir (God is great), you say takbir (God is great). Then he had the people leave there and summoned one of them and had him sit across from him. Imam Ali uncovered his face and said to Abdullah Bin Abi Rafe '' write the confession of this man and interrogate him''. He asked '' What day and what month did you and the father of this youth leave your houses?
Where were you in such and such a month or a year when the father of this youth died? Whose house were you in such and such a place? What kind of disease did he have in such and such a house? How long was he sick? What date did he die? Who washed his body and laid his body in the shroud? What was the cloth of his shroud? Who prayed for him and who entered the grave with him?'' When he was interrogated completely, he said takbir loudly and others said takbir loudly. When they heard Takbir, they made sure that he had revealed the fact. Hazrat Ali(peace be upon him) ordered to cover his face and to imprison him. Then he summoned the other one and had him sit across from him and uncovered his face and said to him '' do you imagine that I am not aware of your crime?'' then the man made sure that the first person had confessed his crime in the presence of Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him), he had to confess his sin and said '' O' Amir Al-Momenin! I was one of persons that did not want to kill the father of the youth''. In this way, he confessed his sin. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) summoned all of the witnesses and then one after another confessed that they had killed his father and had grabbed his properties. Then the first man that had not confessed his sin confessed and Imam Ali (peace be upon him) had them take the responsibility of paying blood money and the properties of the father of the youth. When they wanted to pay the properties of the slain, there was a lot of struggle between the youth and them. Each one had a different idea about paying it. Hence, Amir Al-Momenin(peace be upon him) took their rings and said ''put my ring and their rings sporadically and whoever picks up my ring is right in his claim because my ring is the share of God and the share of God tells the truth''. After this event ended well, Sharih askd '' O' Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him) what was the rule of Hazrat Davud?'' Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said '' when Davud was passing an alley, he faced to several children that were playing accidentally and heard that they were calling a child with the name '' Mat Al-Din'' (the man of the religion). Davud summoned the children and asked him '' what's your name?'' he answered '' my name is Mat Al-Din''.
Davud asked '' who has called you with such a name?'' he answered '' my father has called me with such a name''. Daud took the boy to the presence of his mother and asked '' O' the woman! What is the name of your child?'' he said '' his name is Mat Al-Din''.
Davud said '' who has called you with such a name?'' The woman said '' his father has called him with such a name'' Davud asked '' why has he called him with such a name?'' The woman answered '' when I was pregnant, my father travelled with a group, but he did not come back with them. When I asked them about him, they said '' he had died''. I asked '' what happened to his properties?'' They said '' he had left nothing''. I asked '' didn't he will you to tell us?'' they said '' since he knew that you were pregnant he willed that you would call your child '' Mat Al-Din'' whether it was a son or a daughter''. Davud asked '' are the traveler fellows of your husband dead or alive?'' She said '' they are alive''.
He said '' guide me to their houses. The woman took Davud to their houses. Davud summoned them and interrogated them. When their crime revealed, Imam Ali(peace be upon him) left the responsibility of blood money and the properties owing to the youth to them and said to the woman '' call your son '' Ash Al-Din( the religion is alive).
