Problem of return of the Jews to Palestine and the establishment of the Israeli community and government was not Zionist or Jewish, but it was raised by colonialist countries of Europe because of the interests and establishing a base in the region. Jewish nationalism was created to maintain the interests, which was a quite European phenomenon and was began and developed in the second half of the nineteenth century in Western Europe and Russia.
Zionism was and is a Western movement. Therefore, when we use the term Zionism, in fact, we define it as a movement that was formed in West and has chosen Palestine as a place for Jewish settlement which has never lost its Western identity by transfer from West to East.
By studying history we see that until the nineteenth century such thing as a Jewish political nationalism (Zionism) did not exist. In fact, Zionism in the Age of Global selfish, political nationalism of the nineteenth century Europe gives birth to tragic political stupid nationalism of "Jewish" (Zionism).
Thus, political Zionism did not raise from Judaism, but it is result of nineteenth-century European nationalism. Zionism that today has taken the place of religion, has turned into the idolatrous rituals of government, the Israeli government. In this regard the Jewish religion is separated from its origin, and this is a disease that its sign is the emergence of Jewish nationalism in the mid-nineteenth century. This new form of attachment to the land is a coverage that hides all the things that new national Judaism has borrowed from the West new nationalism in itself. So the nationalism crisis of political Zionism is considered a form of corruption in the spirituality of Judaism.
Imam Khomeini in his message on World Congress of Hajj, states to the Muslims of world, on 8/7/1358:
We know Jewish community separated from the Zionists; they are not religious people. The uprising against the oppressors has been path of Moses, peace be upon him, and it is exactly against the Zionists' plan. Zionist are with arrogant ones and are their spies and servants and act against oppressed ones, just the opposite of the teachings of Moses, who was like other prophets of the ordinary people and did uprising upon Pharaoh and the Pharaoh power to pull them down, contrary to the way of Zionists that they are in relation with oppressors and act against the oppressed ones, and a number of Jews who have been deceived and gathered there from all around the world and are maybe now regretful of going there, because whoever goes and sees what plans they have, what kind of murder the do, and what kind of connection to America they have cannot bear a clan to act against the teachings of Moses because of being from the Jewish community. We know that the Jewish community is different from Zionist community and we are against them and the reason is that they are opposed to all religions. They are not Jews; they are political people, who do things in the name of Judaism, and Jews hated them as well and all people must hate them.
Professor martyr Motahari also rejects the false and fictitious occupier Zionists' claims as follows:
Many Jews of the world are opponents with the political phenomenon known as Zionism and its ideal, and even believe that the occupation of Palestine has no relationship with ideology of the Jews and Judaism, and Zionist are political community with political objectives, not ethnic, religious or nationalist and based on the fact, not only from the beginning of whisper of the occupation of Palestine, many Jews in opposite parts of the world, including Europe, disagreed the idea of Jewish immigration to a united land, including the Palestinian, but after the Palestinian occupation the disagreements and conflicts continued and also those very small number of Jews who lived in Palestine before were persecuted by occupiers and were suffering the Zionist evil deeds and character.
As mentioned in the previous section, the idea of establishing a state for the Jewish people has an ancient and colonial history and goes back to the time of Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1799, Napoleon in start of his attack on the East asked Jews around the world to join French troops and he promised them to make prepare establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine in exchange for this cooperation.
He was looking for French targets in the region and in 1807, he issued the establishment of the Supreme Council of Jews in Paris and in February ninth1807, the Jewish Council chaired by David Syntezhim, Rabbi of Strasbourg in Great Synagogue in Paris, was opened.
Napoleon had a purpose from forming the Supreme Council of Jewish that was associated with his colonial ambitions. He hoped that the Jews, who were scattered all over the world, help strengthening his global empire.
Napoleon's defeat by England ended France's goals, which was the base in order to protect the interests in the region and hitting the British in India, and Britain could maintain its supremacy in the region. From this time onwards, the UK set forming a Jewish state in Palestine as its agenda due to owning India and the urgent need to have Egypt and Palestine.
Indian Empire with its unique size, business integration with Great Britain and its military power affected Great Britain's other colonies, and the need to ensure the defense of it for politicians of Victorian era was approved as a vital importance. This necessity was above all else necessities that led Great Britain's army to Egypt in 1882 and in 1889 AD, Lord Salisbury concluded that they - British troops - stay in Egypt indefinitely.
In fact, England attention to Palestine and the Arabic region was not only limited to its trade route to India and security of maritime and military ways of the Empire; England tried to preserve the area due to its unrivaled dominance fleet on the waters of the region, and through the preservation of the Ottoman Empire as barrier against greed of other countries in Europe. All of this meant that the United Kingdom disagreed with the emergence of any real and local power in the region. This is why the advent of Muhammad Ali in Egypt worried the United Kingdom very much and shortly after the fear was replaced by military intervention. The policy which aim was maintaining British commercial interests in the region in covering of support of religious minorities, must be run through preventing the creation of a united states in the Egypt and Syria – one state that threatened the interests and influence of foreign countries in the region.
