Once upon a time, there was no one other than God. In ancient times there was a young man named as Shir Ali. Although he was not too young, he played stone games with the young. One day, during the play, his stone broke and he went to find a round stone. He saw a beautiful square stone that he liked it. He wrapped it in a napkin and put it into his pocket. Afterwards he found a round stone and returned back to the play.
Ironically, the caravan of businessmen got where they were plying. As Shir Ali saw them, asked his friend to call him as Khan in order that he could make fun of them and make them laugh greatly. He said this and waited until when the camels arrived. He put the cassock on his shoulders and to the head of the caravan and said: "I am Shir Ali Khan. Where is going your caravan?" As he said this, young friends of him went ahead and said: "Hello, Khan!" The head of the caravan said: "We are merchants, and we are going to Yemen."
Shir Ali said: "Now that you are going to Yemen I have a gift for the king of Yemen. Take this gift and give it to the king and say that this is from Shir Ali Khan and take its receipt and bring me back, otherwise I will not permit you pass through this city when returning."
The head of the caravan agreed. Shir Ali handed over him the square stone and let them to go. When the caravan left there Shir Ali and his friends laughed a lot and made fun of them.
The caravan went and went until it reached to Yemen. The head of the caravan went in any way to the palace of the king and said him that this stone had been sent from Shir Ali Khan and he wanted its receipt. The king showed the stone to his ministers and solicitors, but they did not know it. The minister called up a jeweler. When he came and saw the stone said it was the most expensive stone in the world as expensive as the kingdom of Yemen. As the king heard this, became very glad and said the Khan who had sent him such a stone inevitably had had great devotion to him. So he wrote a letter to him inviting him to come here and marry his daughter. The he sent the letter with a load of gold to Shir Ali. When the head of the caravan saw the letter and the load of gold thought that this Khan must be a so important person. So, when he arrived at Shir Ali had great respect to him and gave him the letter of the king and what the king gifted to him, and took his permission to pass through the city.
Shir Ali read the letter and saw the treasure sent to him by the king and was astonished greatly that what had happened. But said to himself probably God had favor to him, and that if chance welcome a person there would not be important who he/she was or who his/her parents were. So, he went to his friends and told them all what had happened, and gave then some gold too, and using other amount of gold built a great prosperity for himself and remained waiting the caravan of traders to come. The he wrote a letter to the king of Yemen stating that he would come there at the date he determined.
The head of the caravan took the letter and gave it to the king of Yemen.
Shi Ali rode a lanky mare and went toward Yemen. He went and went and arrived there the same appointed day and saw the city was decorated and all ministers and solicitors and army of the king were standing everywhere. He asked someone the cause of these activities in the city who answered those were for welcoming to the king' son in law. But Shir Ali had arrived into the city like a demon, since during several days and nights in sunlight and wind and hot weather he had become worn – out. This was why when he replied to the army of Yemen preventing him that: "I am Shir Ali Khan, the king's son in law, and you have come to welcome me", the soldiers laughed at him and beat him as much as possible. Shir Ali barely took himself out of the hands of the mighty soldiers of the army to return back. He was so ashamed to go back to his city. Thus, disappointedly, he went to the top of the mountain to throw himself downwards.
He went and went and finally reached to the top of the mountain. When he wanted to end his life, for a moment felt the sweetness of life. He went and sat in a corner. But some minutes later he stood up and again intended to fall himself from the mountain. This time too he was deterred. He went aside and thought well. He concluded that the life is worthless. So he threw himself. He was falling downwards, and when he reached in front of the opening of a cave in the middle of the height of the mountain, suddenly an arm came out of the cave and held him in air and took inside the cave. But Shir Ali did not understand that, because he fainted just before falling. When he opened his eyes noticed that he was lying down on a bed in the middle of a beautiful palace, and fairy girls were standing in the palace here and there. A very beautiful girl was also sitting and was spitting blood. At a farther distance a king with a full glory was also sitting on a throne who was staring at him.
When the king saw that Shir Ali had recovered said him: "Oh strange young man! I am Javanbakht fairy, he king of Mount Qaf. This girl is Simin, my daughter. It was a duration that a bone had been clung in her throat and she could not to take it out. Today when you were going to kill himself and you could not do so, my daughter laughed at your work such that the bone was thrown outside and she became well. That was the biggest goodness you did for me. So, I sent a demon to catch you in air when you were falling and bring you here. I had promised myself to marry my daughter to everyone could cure her. I have only this daughter and you are my son in law from now on."
Shir Ali said: "This is kind of you, but I have promised the king of Yemen to marry his daughter, and I should do so. I am a person who cannot break his promise. I must go Yemen for wedding with the daughter of the king."
When Javanbakht heard his speech said himself noblemen of Mount Qaf aspired to marry with my daughter, but now that I myself was proposing this human being to marry my daughter he was refusing. The he conclude that this human being was doing so in order not to break his promise, and he was following someone being faithful to promise for his daughter, so he had to make this human being content to marry his daughter in any way. So Javanbakht again said Shir Ali: "This girl has espoused you. I help you to go to Yemen and marry the daughter of the king of Yemen. Afterward come here and marry my daughter too. Now tell me when your wedding will be." Shir Ali answered: "Tomorrow. I have gotten here earlier." When Javanbakht heard this, ordered a demon to be in the service of Shir Ali. So, Shir Ali wrote a letter to the king of Yemen stating that he was going there tomorrow. He handed over the letter to the demon and wanted it to reach it to the king of Yemen. The demon took the letter and roared and went to the air. When it reached over the city of Yemen and the people saw the demon, they were frightened and escaped. The demon that was watching this fear of the people, shouted them not to escape, and that it would not intend to hurt them, but it was the messenger of Shir Ali, the king's son in law. But no one could understand what it said except an old man who was able to understand the language of demons. But even whatever the old man said the people that it was the messenger of the king's son in law no one believed him. At last the old man went and welcomed the landed demon and greeted it and they hugged each other. In this manner the worry of the people was relieved. The old man took the demon to the palace of the king. The demon opened the letter from its horn and delivered it to the king and returned back.
The next day all the people were waiting Shir Ali Khan who arrived with four hundred male demons and four hundred fairy girls. Four demons were also carrying the throne of Shi Ali on their shoulders. The demons put down the throne of Shir Ali in front of the king's palace. The king and his ministers and solicitors and other authority of the city were quite surprised by seeing the glory of Shir Ali. The king ordered all the slaves and servants to be in service of Shir Ali and demons and fairies. When the reception ended the king put the hand of his daughter in the hand of Shir Ali. Then there occurred a very big wedding celebration in the city longing several days. Then Shir Ali went to the king to take his permission for returning back. The king allowed and Shir Ali ordered the demons to move. They took the throne of the bride and bridegroom and went into air.
The demons soon arrived at Mount Qaf and put down the throne on the ground in Paradise Garden. When the king of Mount Qaf saw that Shir Ali had returned back, ordered to illuminate Paradise Garden and to celebrate seven nights and seven days. At the seventh night they married Simin to Shir Ali and afterwards they were dancing and joying for five days. Shir Ali began his common life with his two wives happily and fairy servants and slaves were quite in their service.
After elapsing some time, Shir Ali went to Javanbakht fairy and said he missed his father and mother and wanted to take him to his city to see his old father and mother. Javanbakht ordered four male demon to take him there and bring back. The demon took the throne of Shir Ali and went. As soon as they arrived at the city of Shir Ali and the people saw the demons, the escaped to save their lives. Although Shir Ali was calling his friends, they did not stop. When they reached close to his father's home, his parents noticed that someone was calling them who was wearing royal dress and sitting on a throne. When they looked at him well, they knew Shir Ali. All the people came to welcome him, and Shir Ali hugged them one by one and told them all what had happened and gave to each one an expensive present and then he went toward his parents. His father and mother were not tired of watching all the body of their son as if they could not believe that he was the same poor son of them. Shir Ali remained several days in his city and saw all his relatives and friends and went here and there. Then he seated his parents on top of the throne and took them with himself to Mount Qaf in his palace and determined for them there a suitable place to continue their lives happily. On the other hand, Javanbakht gave the share of her daughter from his kingdom, and Shir Ali became the king of a part of Mount Qaf.
