Once upon a time, there was no one other than God. In the ancient times there was an old man living with his wife and three daughters. One day these three daughters who were bored of the home and their life said to their father and mother that it was a long time that their works were cooking and sweeping and had not gone outside the home. They requested them to let them to go to their aunt together and one day were happy in recreation. They said that they would go to the nearby village and would return back soon. The father cannot agree in his heart to send these girls alone, but the daughters insisted such that he agreed. The daughters kissed him and got ready and got going.
Three sisters went out of the city and went and went up to a river. There they noticed that the water had risen and had taken the bridge and there was no way to pass the river. The damned to their bad luck that now that they had come out after a long time for recreation the water of the river had become much and gad caused to close their path. The sat on the ground waiting to appear a probable solution or someone come to take them to other side of the river
After passing an hour a big and ugly Arab man reach there and as he saw the sisters became very happy and understood that they wanted to pass across the river. He asked the girls what they were doing there, and the girls told him their story and that they wanted to go to the nearby village to their aunt's home but water had taken the bridge.
The Arab man said them that he would take them to other side of the river but each of them should let him to kiss her two times. At first the sisters were afraid of this work and were disappointed, but the oldest sister said that there was no one to see what they had done, and two kisses were not so important, and they themselves would say that to no one. The middle sister also said who had said that this work was bad, and after being kissed they would go to their aunt's home. And maybe by this work they would become lucky. But the youngest sister, who was generally opposite to them in almost everything, said even she was killed she would not permit that a strange man touch her. And that this work of them would not be hidden from God's eye although people would not see. And, whatever they did, she would not let the Arab man to close her. The older sisters made their way separate and let the Arab man kiss them, and he embraced them and took to the other side of the river.
When they stand on the ground realized that how wrong do they had done, and now the youngest sister would return back to their parents and would make scandal for them. They should decide to do something to prevent her to get the home. They were very sorry that although they had come to be happy this incompatible sister should make their day bad. They begged the Arab man to be kind to take her without kiss, but he did not agree. When they saw there was no other way, they whispered the Arab man to do something to her that she could not say anything. Seemingly such a work was simpler for the Arab man, so he went and cut off the head of the girl and dropped her corpse to the river and kept his way and went to continue his life. When the blood of the youngest sister was shed and her corpse was dropt into the river, the two sisters became relieved and went to their aunt's home and were happy by laughing and talking. When the sun rose, they got going to return back to their home.
As they approached the home, they began to cry and hitting themselves. When the father and mother and brother heard their cry, came out and went toward the girls to see what had happened that they were hitting themselves.
The sisters dropped themselves on the ground and shed soil on their heads and said indirectly that when they were passing across the river, the water took their youngest sister and they could not save her whatever they tried. Their father and mother also shed the soil of the lane on their heads, and neighbors were gathered and took them to the home and tried to sooth them. Immediately they had funeral for the killed daughter and after much crying they went to their works and lives.
One day the brother went out of the city and went and went until when he reached the river and where the Arab man had cut off the head of his sister. He noticed that where no reed could grow there, there existed a grown long beautiful reed. He cut the reed by his penknife and sat at the same place and made a fine flute from it. He took the flute and came back to home and sat at a corner and began to play it that surprisingly the flute began to sing:
Brother play, brother play,
Brother, how good you play,
They killed me and dropped to water,
They let the Arab man to kiss them twice.
The father, who was nearby, was surprised from such a flute and wondered who had been killed. He went to his son and took the flute and this time began to play it himself that the flute sang this time:
Father play, father play,
Father, how good you play,
They killed me and dropped to water,
They let the Arab man to kiss them twice.
The mother too heard the voice of the flute and confusedly went and took the flute from her husband and put it on her lips and played it. This time the flute sang:
Mother play, mother play,
Mother, how good you play,
They killed me and dropped to water,
They let the Arab man to kiss them twice.
The sisters who from the first had heard the voice of the flute were very frightened. They wondered what was that flute and about what it was talking. They could not without any reaction sit and watch how they were being dishonored. They went to their brother and father and mother. The oldest daughter took the flute and put it on her lips. The flute this time sang:
Ignoble shrew play,
Ignoble shrew play,
Ignoble shrew, how good you play,
You killed me and dropped to water,
You let the Arab man to kiss you twice.
The girl was frightened so much and realized, what it was, it related to her little sister. Without any delay looked around her and notice that the stove was burning. Immediately she dropped the flute into it. Before when her father and mother and brother could do any reaction, the flute had burnt and became ash. Then she took the ash and put it in a pit she dug at a corner of their small garden and filled the pit by soil.
When it was spring and rain was beginning to fall, where the ash had been buried grew a bush. The bush very soon became long and flowered. At summer it yielded a watermelon. Everyone was surprised, because no one had planted any watermelon. But in the same time all were also glad to have that.
In the day they recognized that the watermelon had become ripe and had much water, the father said to fire the oven and to cook bread in order the family to eat bread and cheese and watermelon. The wife and daughters cooked bread and brought to tablecloth. The father put the watermelon on the tray and put the knife on the middle of the watermelon in order to cut it. Suddenly there was a voice saying not to cut here since here was its waist. The father was so surprised and wondered why this house was so. He put the knife on the upper part of the watermelon and wanted to press it the watermelon cried not to cut there since there was its head. Everywhere the father put the knife, the watermelon cried. He became angry and took the watermelon upwards and slammed it to the ground. The watermelon was broken to pieces and the little daughter, who was more beautiful than before, came out of it and sat in the middle of the room. The older sisters were very frightened, but the father and mother and brother became so happy and were celebrating for themselves. When the situation got calm, they seated the youngest sister and asked her about what occurred that it was said that she was dead, and how she went into the watermelon.
The little sister looked at her older sisters and noticed they were so ashamed. She felt compassion for them and decided not to decry them. So she said that her sisters passed across the river but she didn't dare to pass the water, and a big and ugly Arab man came and wanted to kiss her in change of his help to pass the river, but she did not agree to do this work and the Arab man cut off her head and dropped her into the river, but the daughter of the king of the fairies was there and took pity to her and her innocence and loneliness and read a jabber due to which a reed was grown where her blood had been shed which was the same flute the brother brought to the home. From its ash the sister had buried in the garden, this watermelon was grown.
The older sisters who noticed that their little sister had not ashamed them, pretend that just they were so happy. The stood up and kissed their sister so much, and all together kept their life so happily.
