The overthrow of the Tsarist government in Russia is undoubtedly one of the greatest events in the history of the world. Restrictions that were imposed on nationalities and ethnic groups were eliminated. But the Russian Revolution not only did not destroy Zionism, but this new freedom granted a strong incentive to the movement.
A regional Zionist committee was established in Moscow that covered most of the province: Astrakhan, Vladimir, Vologda, Voronezh, Kazan, Kaluga, Kostroma, Kursk, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Simbersk, Smolensk, Tambov, Tula, Ufa, Yaruzlav and Don.
In Odessa, the Zionist protests were held. All battalions of Israeli soldiers were with blue and white flags and chanted the slogan of "freedom in Russia and Land and Freedom in Palestine" and they marched through the streets of the city.
One hundred and fifty thousand people walked behind the flag and the military governor of Odessa insisted on public tribute to the flag. In other Russian cities, including Minsk, Saratov, Jurev, Kharkiv, Nizhny Novgorod, Katrynburg, Hummel, Proskorov, Bak, Dobrono, Ryazan, Katrynoslav, Moscow also Zionist congresses were held.
In Kiev, after marchers reaching to City Hall, the Zionist flag was raised and "the anthem of the Zionist movement" which in 1948 became the national anthem of Israel was played by Music City Band.
In Berdychiv, fifteen thousands of Jews, who carried Zionism flags with them, marched in the major streets of the city. Officials of the city hall and executive heads and authorities of the Ukrainian national organizations welcomed the Zionist demonstrators. The Zionist movement had made considerable progress in Turkmenistan and Bukhara. Sephardic Jews declared their support for the Zionist movement. Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews in the great Zionist conference that was held in Samarkand have cooperated with each other sincerely. In the Samarkand congress about five thousand Jews participated in the conference and a resolution was issued in support of Palestine becoming a Jewish homeland. Jewish Congress was held in the Great Hall of the Moscow. Dr. E. Yi, W. Chelno was elected as head of gathering.
Dr. Chelno gave a speech at the conference, during which he also told other contents, and he said:
We want interim socialist government to believe that it can fully trust our support and our forces in their heroic struggle to strengthen freedom and greatness of Russia. Getting a focus of national territory by votes of scattered Jewish people is what is required and what we're trying to do. Establishment of the center has already begun and it will continue. The focus will be accumulated gradually by forces and facilities of wandering Jews. Which of you did not follow the youngest branch of the Jewish people, the Americans, with the enthusiasm during the past one and a half years? Hundreds of thousands of workers have unanimously called for guaranteeing the rights of wandering Jews and an autonomous center in the Palestine. New York's Jewish community, which represents one million and two hundred and fifty thousand Jews, chants slogans of ensuring the rights of wandering Jews and creating a Jewish autonomous center in Palestine. Moreover, the Zionist movement Congress that represents all three million Jews in the US is expected to make important decisions till the next autumn. Due to these changes, you will accept that unity and harmony that we dream of is realizing. We follow activities of the pioneers of the Zionist movement across the ocean.
But what was not predictable was how the broad communities of the Jews acted toward the Zionist aspiration that revealed itself since the Bolshevik Revolution onwards.
The conference was held with the participation of five hundred and fifty two representatives from six hundred and forty cities. At the conference, representatives of Turkestan, Bukhara and Crimea were present. In addition to the five hundred guests from various cities, more than one thousand and one hundred guests attended the gathering in Petrograd.
On this gathering, the President of the Conference read a historical document. This was unprecedented document of a command that General Alexeyev from West Front had signed in which Jewish soldiers were allowed to choose representatives from among themselves to attend the conference in Petrograd. In the decree, the relevant authorities had been ordered to provide passing tickets and needed vehicles for the participation of representatives of Jewish soldiers in Petrograd Conference.
A spokesman for the delegation of Jewish soldiers passed a statement for his colleagues and he read it; in the statement it was said: "We, the Jewish soldiers who have participated in the conference on behalf of the military Jewish army express addressed to the participants in the Convention and the Jewish people. "" hundreds, even thousands of Jews were present in the Russian army in the battle fronts. "
Petrograd Conference issued the following resolution. First of all, the Jewish people according to the dispersion around the world can only through re-access to National Autonomous Center in Palestine provide necessary conditions for normal development of the national, cultural and economic life. Second, the Jewish people had always wished to settle in Palestine. Zionist Conference in Russia unanimously declares that nations will understand clear wish of the Jewish people to settle and rebirth in Palestine as their national center and they will recognize it officially and therefore, they will provide the necessary conditions to guarantee the free and successful development of Jewish concentrated forces and their return to Palestine.
For true realization and perfect manifestation of the will of the Jewish people, the conference knows it needed to start a referendum among Jews start about the subject, then raise the issue of claims of the Jews in Palestine in the Congress of Russian Jews, and finally demand presence of representatives of the Jewish people in the future peace conference that will be held by ending hostilities to retell the aspirations of the people and the support of Zionism.
New Bolshevik rulers' behavior in Russia showed that they were also aligned with the goals and objectives of the Zionist movement in a well-organized way and supported creating a Jewish state in Palestine in different ways.
