Alibeig Castle

Located on the border strip of Aras within the intact and beautiful region of Kamtal, the castle is under protection. It is said that when Kharvana was occupied by Russians in the reign of Fathali Shah from Ghajar, a person called Alibeig restored it and hid there along with his troops to resist the Russians.
Currently, a tribe known as “ Alibeigloo” or “ Alibegloo” live in Kharvana who are said to be grandchildren of Alibeig.

The path to Alibeig Castle

You’d better drive a jeep and be well prepared for serious mountain and rock climbing on the route.
According to most of the researchers and archaeologists , the castle belonged to Babak Khorramdin along with 55 other castles and fortresses. He used it militarily to fight the soldiers of the tyrant caliphs of the Abbasid.
The Camtal Mountains and the castle are 222 km from Tabriz, 147 km from Marand, 82 km from Hadi Shahr, and 12 km from the Dastjerd village.
