Orientalists who stepped into the mysterious deserts in Iran and found themselves in the high-rise kaluts called the structures the city of fairies; they are spread out all over the place and get new shapes and forms every month.
Large structures of Kaluts, about tens of meters high, rise out of sand dunes in a stretch of 45 km on the edge of Lut desert. As castles they protect the desert and that’s why they are called desert’s guard.

Although visitors might feel lonely in the dry and barren land , the wonders of the wild nature , where bacteria grow due to a special climate are so many that each year an ever-increasing number will struggle to visit the area.
According to the statistics, over 135,000 tourists visited Shahdad district this Nowruz which shows that it went up 10 % compared to the last Nowruz.
The cultural , tourism and handicrafts heritage official of Shahdad announced 1,438 sightseers had overnight stays in the desert camp ; they mainly departed from the provinces of Tehran, Fars, Sistan and Baluchestan , Khorasan-e Jonoobi, and Khorasan-e Razavi.

Researchers and scientist don’t exactly know why the enormous sand structures are formed in the heart of deserts.
It is noteworthy that since the last decade the events like holding a national conference on getting to know Lut desert, nights festivals in the desert, and the establishment of tourism camp and relief services assembly have made travelers familiar with the largest cloddish city across the world and progressively visitors poured in.
Although in the first years the number of visitors was limited , they gradually increased after introducing the attractions of the enchanting land. Also Progress was made in leaps and bounds when the road from Shahdad to Nahbandan was built in the heart of the desert.
