In the southernmost of the land, a small island stands out which is known as Hengam.
Encompassing an area of some 50 square kilometers , the coral island includes small villages.
, it’s among the natural highlights of Qeshm. Located in south of Qeshm
It looks like an incomplete pyramid on the southern banks of Qeshm island. You should take a boat from Bandar Abbas and after about 80 km you ‘ll be there i.e. about 60 km from Qeshm.
All its surface is covered in low limestone elevations; the highest in Nakes mountain is 106 meters. It is filled with salt, soil and lead mines. However ,none of the 130 households have jobs other than fishing except for a group pf indigenous people who provide tourists with services and accommodation in high traveling season.
Playful dolphins
If you ever visit the snug and spectacular island, you can witness playful dolphins which will entertain you for hours. In addition to them, there are crocodiles which have been bred in the last couple of years ,which are a must-see. Hengam is the first farm for breeding crocodiles in the country. Iran is now among 50 countries raising the marine animal. Also it boats a banyan , which is not as large as the famous tree in Qeshm but is interesting enough to pay a visit and hear peoples’ legends about it.
There are also rocks in spectacular shapes and if you search you can find graves where some foreigners were buried in the island.

You can rent a boat once in the island and wander around. Indigenous people serve as tour guides and show you around. If you are lucky enough to visit when its calm with no tides, you can see dolphins which compete in the waters. You should never expect to catch up with playful and fast dolphins , no hope of win.You can also see the great scene of sea birds catching fish. It’s also a habitat for a kind of turtle known as hawksbill turtle which is becoming extinct. The turtle comes to the beach in Qeshm and Hengam islands to lay eggs.

But nowadays they have been trained to protect turtles and their eggs. They will show you a part of their life and make you familiar with spawning process and their birth.
To go there, you should take the southern side of the Qeshm island and move towards the village e of Deraz Shib . From there, you’ll have to rent boats to have a ride around the island.
