Applying all of attempts and abilities for confrontation with enemies is considered as conditions so that concept of Jihad can be implemented and value and sanctity of Jihad depends on following path of God (sincerity).
Jihad action has a specific conception and each action is not Jihad. Jihad has special meaning and each attempt is not called '' Jihad''.
The word '' Jihad'' and the word '' jahd'' (attempt) have same root. In other words, meaning of attempt is within the word '' Jihad'', but concept of Jihad is not only this. Confrontation with enemy is supposed in Jihad. When persons attempt for something, there is no animosity and such a thing is not considered as Jihad. However, when you attempt for fighting an enemy face to face, it will be considered as Jihad''.
If we want to find an equivalent for the word '' Jihad'' in the modern literature, it will be '' champion''.
Khamenei states about kinds of Jihad and champion and how our activities can be representative of Jihad and champion
Champion has different kinds: scientific, media, political, economic, military, clear and hidden champions; a common point among them is animosity.
Therefore, you should recognize which enemy has ambushed for your country, revolution and purposes that have depicted this revolution and should fight against them. Such a thing is called '' Jihad''.
Hence, if you look for a science for fighting, this science will not satisfy them; such a thing will not be Jihad. Suppose that University Jihad or an institute related to University Jihad says '' in such and such a year, a hundred or five hundred of my articles were published in ISI'' such a thing will not be a norm. What were these articles? Did they feel danger? Of course, their politicians did not feel danger. However, I do not know how educated persons think.
Therefore, norm of Jihad is oriented movement that attempts to removes barriers on the way; such a thing will be champion.
c. Sincerity in action
Khamenei states '' when Jihad has orientation and divine purpose, it will have a holy aspect. When there is Jihad, oriented attempt for God, it will definitely be accompanied with success''.
My dears! Sincerity is very important and you should not forget it. Moreover, you should be sincere and it means that your motivation should be only for God, his satisfaction and fulfillment of divine mission; this is meaning of sincerity and wonderful benefits.
d. self-esteem and tirelessness
Khamenei states '' spirit of Jihad means that we can trust our physical and mental abilities constantly and tirelessly and can trust youths…''.
He also states '' because people all over the world accept you, you should empower yourself and because people all over the world have to preserve greatness and honor of the nation of Iran, you should rely on yourself and foster your inner abilities such as increase of knowledge of science, improvement of economic conditions, work force and power of military defense''.
Hence, very important reference of Jihad spirit is self-esteem and inner belief in our abilities.
e. Self-forgetfulness
Jihad culture is against material culture; when there is not Jihad culture, there will not be material culture. '' In fact, in material culture, each person is pivot of events in the world, considers their own benefits and fends their losses. Hence, there will be contrasts, vices, falsity and animosity''.
''When there are movement and spirit of Jihad, persons drown into faith in God, purposes and helping others and forget themselves''. If an affair is done with spirit of Jihad, it will be like Jihad. ''As a matter of fact, persons that do affairs with spirit of Jihad will be like Jihad in path of God and it is different from doing affairs for money, rank, fame and science. Moreover, Jihad in path of God will be so valuable''.
f. Innovation and creativity
Creativity is necessary for innovation and one of purposes of prophets was to foster creativity of persons as Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) states
''يُثِيرُوا لَهم دَفائِنَ العُقُولِ ''
It has been expressed in a narration
''وَ مَنْ كَانَ غَدُهُ شَرّاً مِنْ يوْمِهِ فَهُوَ مَلْعُونٌ''
It can be understood from the above narration that devout persons should not stop their abilities and talents, but they should be creative and innovative constantly.
Khamenei states '' a specific activity is creation and innovation of something. Finding new and effective ways, whether in major or minor affairs, needs thinking and attempt''.
He also states '' building that depends on love, enthusiasm, innovation and creativity of persons will be easy in spite of all limitations''.
According to Khamenei, revolutionary devout persons should not also be creative and innovative, but they should also provide ground of innovation and creativity in others.
e. Acting according to religious rules
Imam Khomeini states '' now that we have had revolution, should we have anarchy? It is true that we had revolution, but revolution should not be anarchy. In fact, revolution is not chaos and we should not do whatever we like with a word '' revolution''. What is revolution? Does Islam change in revolution? Islam is same Islam''.
f. Correspondence of revolution values with Islamic values
Khamenei states '' revolution values cannot be distinguished from Islamic values; they are same. No one can say that I am a Muslim, but I do not believe in revolution or vice versa. In fact, revolution includes a lot of forces of mobilization, but there are different kinds of revolutions all over the world. Therefore, there is not non-Islamic revolution and Islam without revolution and values of Revolution is same values of Islam''.
Recognition of Islamic values and insisting on its principles and foundations are features of revolutionary devout persons. Khamenei states that these principles and foundations include '' Islam of Hazrat Muhammad, national unity and position of leadership that was under vicious attack by America and Zionism so that they prevented Islam from achieving holy purposes''.
e. Fighting against tyranny
Fighting against tyranny and standing against bullies and mutineers are considered as features of devout persons of revolution. Khamenei states '' some stupid persons imagine that if a university wants to attend revolution, they should shout at persons in charge, but such a thing is not a revolution. In fact, such a shout should be at America and powers that interfere into affairs of officials and organizers of the system''.
Motahari writes '' two contrast thoughts cannot get along with each other, but they can do so provided that they try to achieve compromise of thoughts . However, since the messenger of God is prophet of God and induces principles of the religion, he should not avoid the principles of the religion of God so that he can get along with opponents. From point of view of Quran, in fact, doing such an action is to obey persons that consider mission of the prophet false and such a thing is not acceptable. Quran interprets such a thing as obedience;
''فَلا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبينَAl-Qalam/ verse 8 ''
So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth).
A revolutionary devout person should be firm in obeying their leader against companions of blasphemy and riot and they should not think that we avoid the principles of the religion and revolution so that we make friendship with them.
f. Idealism and realism
Khamenei states to the representatives of the parliament of Islamic council
You should consider two features '' idealism'' and '' realism'' in taking care of the affairs of the country as your responsibility that are exhibited as rules and legislation. Your point of view should be idealistic and should not ignore your ideals. Moreover, you should have idealistic point of view based on reality and it determines obligations based on realities for ourselves, the government and officials, but they should be according to our ideals so that we can progress day to day. Realism against idealism is not desirable and norm is that we can achieve the ideals based on realities. From time to time, persons have hallucinations about their decisions and such a thing is false. In fact, ideals should be considered. Steps should be considered one after another based on realities and we should follow those ideals''.
He states about explanation of aspects of idealism
Idealism should be considered in science, policy and other areas. Idealism in science means that we should look for the highest stage in relation to scientific matters. In fact, you should achieve good results in study and education. You should also be idealistic in area of spirituality and morals.
He also defines idealism in this way '' briefly, idealism means loyalty to values, principles, ideals, leaving effects and getting effects from opposite point and front''.
g. Use of the least facilities with the most efficiency
Lack of facilities is one of problems in doing duties and missions and we should get along with it with spirit of Jihad and revolutionary action. A person that has spirit of Jihad and considers himself or herself a radical person uses the least facilities and tries to achieve the most efficiency. Khamenei states about this matter
Your responsibility is like a strait that you should preserve it. Such a thing is not allegory and it is a fact at time being. You should not let financial and administrative problems influence quality of your responsibility.
He also states
''All of you, especially youths, should look at affairs with this point of view. Guardians and forces of revolution should also look at them with such a point of view. Minor, personal and material matters have less importance. You should tolerate material problems in order to achieve great purposes. When a nation passes such a path, they will promote; such a thing helped Muslims to win in the advent of Islam because they looked at their problems with such a point of view so that they could achieve their purposes''.
3. Work ethic
Purpose from work ethic is that a person considers his or her conscientiousness in all stages of doing responsibilities and applies it in order to judge correctness of their action. In fact, work ethic is a factor that leads persons to do their duties with internal motivation in the best way and without any external controls, rewards or punishments.
Khamenei states
''Work ethic means that if we take a responsibility and are commitment to doing it, whether it is for ourselves , our family, social affair, country missions or for making money , we should do it completely, decently and exactly. In other words, we try to do best of our ability''.
Concepts such as love, interest in work, conscientiousness, honesty in doing affairs, care, tolerance and doing affairs in the best way are used in order to explain concept of work ethic. Religious trains emphasize on aspects of work ethic with topics such as fairness, accountability and attitude to work as obligations.
Supernatural aspect of conscience in Quran is expressed in three ways:
a. Conscience trouble;
''لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيوْمِ الْقِيامَةِ * وَ لَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ'' Al-Waaqia/ 1-2
.''When the Event inevitable cometh to pass''
.''Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming''
b. Conscience presence;
''بَلِ الْانسان عَلي‏ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ * وَ لَوْ أَلْقَي‏ مَعَاذِيرَهُ''
.''And a few from those of later times''
They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones)''.Al-Waaqia/ 14-15
c. Comfort of conscience
''يأَيتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئنَّةُ * ارْجِعِي إِلي‏ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيةً مَّرْضِيةً''
Presence and judgment of conscience is obvious in all persons and key and main point of this matter is orders of conscience and getting assi assistance from the valuable conscience. Following orders of conscience is cause of its improvement and freshness.
