BIOGRAPHY OF ABOLFAZL BEIHAGHI

He born in 995 in HARES ABAD, a village near to NEISHABOUR city.
When he was a child, father sent him to gain knowledge in his home town and then in NEISHABOUR. ABOLFAZL had intelligent talent and loved writing. Young man gone to GHAZNEIN around 1021. Because of his knowledge, was attracted by KHAJE ABOUNASR MOSHKAN, a minister in king Mahmoud`s court. KHAJE made him his own assistant and until his death was not separate from him. As KHAJE was famous for his accuracy and matchless wisdom, young writer learnt all information regarding kingdom. Later author used them in writing his own fabulous history book.
BEIHAGHI has seen many ups and downs in his life. So in the year 1056, he thought it is appropriate time to write and gather his notes. Three years later he finished it. But during 19 years, he added new information to the text book. He made his excellent book in 30 volumes. But only 5 volumes remained today.
Many historians have argued that the BEIHAGHI`s book contained GHAZNAVIAN history. But it is clear that the text is recounting the events which begun in 1018 and continuous until shortly before his death in 1077. There are some information which is related to before 1018 and are important historical events of Islam that occurred mainly in Iran. But these events are added quotes from other great philosophers like BIROUNI.
This great history book shows the errors and failures of GHAZNAVIAN`s government, moreover provides valuable information about how they lived and also their beliefs at that time.
One of the historiography features of BEIHAGHI history book that have never been experienced before, is that the events are documentary. The details of this book are unique. BEIHAGHI explains:
I will not say any wrong, so the readers tell me, shame on the old man.
It is my intention to write basic history. And make a large building, so it remains until the end of the time. Prior to this book, history books were limited to sporadic daily notes written by royal historians who were loyal to kings. Meantime, BEIHAGHI with a scientific method in historiography, made an important development in this field.
BEIHAGHI in prose, copied the style of his previous master, ABOU NASR MOSHKAN. It must also be borne in mind that since poet was not able to tell governors about their bad behaviors directly. So he tried to write in ambiguity and confusion. Anyway he done his duty well. And now we have a great record from that era. منبع مقاله :
