Moving grass or Chamli Gul is one of the unique phenomena in Iran or even across the world. The site whose mystery is unraveled yet lies in Takab, West Azerbaijan.
It is unknown to many because of lack of suitable roads to reach and little advertising. But it’s not a good reason to forget about its beauty.
With an area of 100 square meters, the moving grass island stands out on the water. The grass would float in different directions based on the severity of wind and its direction, making it among the most fascinating tourist attraction in the country.
The whole pond, in an area of one hectare, lies within a deep valley which is beautiful thanks to the surrounding plants and lovely flowers.
The floating grass in the middle of the pond won’t lose their green fresh color even in cold winters.
The piece of floating grass in a semilunar shape separated from the area around creates remarkable moves. The deep pond boasts diverse fish and wild ducks.
It is not exactly clear why the wonderful grass moves and floats but experts attribute it to the earth’s rotation and natural factors like winds.
Since there is a swamp and marshy ground it is difficult to reach. There is only a narrow path from its east. If the grass moves on to the shore, you can stand on it but if it moves due to the wind you should wait for it to come close to the shore or you’ll have to swim.
The deep pond measures 8 to 15 meters. The river’s width has increased as a result of the piece’s moves, about 5 meters larger than the piece’s diameter.
Therefore the grass would only move within a short distance of 5 to 6 m and as a result it is not much visible. But if the wind blows you will notice it. Since the grass gets thinner in some areas you might slide into the water.
The moving grass is exactly located in the Vir village , about 20 km east of Takab. It is in the west of the village, actually about 1 km away where you can walk and watch the beautiful scenery. There are two ways to reach: through Takab- Badrloo road after Yolghoon Aghaj and through Takht-e Soleyman.
