Fairies in Zanjan

Lots of tourists visit the province of Zanjan but few might stay long enough to know about its fairies.
Mah Neshan, is a city located 113 km from Zanjan where the legends of fairies can be seen on the mountains and lake. Few might have heard its name. It is said that it is 4000 years old and the old fortress built near Dudkesh-e Jen (fairy chimney) proves this claim.
Dudkesh-e Jen is where you find the city legendary. It’s not clear why it is called this way ; perhaps it relates to the ancient beliefs of the land. But it is , in fact, a mushroom-shaped rock which was formed due to the erosion. It resembles a tall and thin minaret which stand on another rock. It’s what geologists call as Hoodoo.
Hoodoods are mainly seen in America especially in Bryce Canyon whose pictures are available. They are also found in the west of Mississippi River and east of the Rocky Mountains in America and Canada. In Kope Dagh in Turkey, too, they exist and people reside in there.
In the French Alps, they are called "women with hair done". They are found in Serbia and Taiwan as well. Serbs have even put these phenomena under protection and nominated them to be registered on the list of new Seven Wonders of the World.
In the village of Vardij( near Vardavard region), located in Tehran, there are examples which are called hoodoos due to their type and shapes.
Hoodoos are always fascinating to geotourists and geologists and Fairy Chimney (Dudkesh-e Jen) can attract visitors from across the country. There is an old fortress at the foot of it known as Behestan castle, including 46 rooms and two staircases. It has joined the national relics too. Fairy chimney (Dudkesh-e Jen) is located 20 km from the city of Mah Neshan and 120 km from Zanjan.
Mah Neshan has also a lake which locals call it Pary (fairy). Perhaps in the past, the locals have witnessed a fairy in the lake of Khandaghlu.
Pari (Fairy) lake is located in the rural district of Oryad , in the central district of Mah Neshan city, 152 km from the center of the province. It is the only lake in Zanjan lying within a broad field. To reach it, take the Mah Neshan road to the villages of Sahand-e Sofla and Oliya , Ghazi Kandi, Hassan Abad, And Pari.
The cultural heritage and tourism department in Zanjan has planned to build a recreational resort around to attract even more tourists.
