The province of Kurdistan boasts a beautiful nature. Forests are a part of its beauty. The forests in Kurdistan lie around the cities of Bane and Marivan. They are the second most important after the forests in the north of the country. They are now scattered across the place with bushes and shrubs .
The most famous trees include oak , pear, ash , walnut, wild apple, wild pistachio , hawthorn, wild cherry, bitter almond, medlar, hackberry, elm, maple, tamarisk and wild willow( by the river). Overall the woodlands can be divided into:
Marivan’s forests , 185,000 hectares
Bane forests, 50, 000 hectares
Saghez , about 7000 hectares
Sanandaj forests , mainly in the west of Kamyaran and the south of the city, about 78,000 hectares
Abider forest park
It lies in the west side of the city of Sanandaj on the slopes of Abider mountains. The culturally important region is called Abider since it features abundant springs, aqueducts and various gardens like Amaniye , and Amiriye ( Ab means water).When the city developed , water from the springs of Abider was distributed across the city through pottery pipes.
The water of the aqueducts of the monuments Khosro Abad, Asef, Vakil, Moshir and several other buildings originate in the mountains.
In recent years, a park has been constructed with roads and platforms. It boasts a remarkably built relief . The region is now among the most beautiful areas in Sanandaj.
Oraman
A beautiful region in the province of Kurdistan, it lies in the east of Marivan. It boasts lovely mountains with dense forests. The great river of Sirvan runs through the land on the Oraman valley which joins Diale river on its path.It’s noteworthy that forests and woodlands in Bane, Marivan and Darre Shahan, near the Ghom Chay castle, are considered the prime natural attractions of the province.
Zarivar Lake
A most beautiful natural heritage of Kurdistan, it stands 3 km northwest of Marivan, 1,285 meters above sea level. Several roaring springs and rivers supply its water.Water amount differs during the year ; from 22.5 million cubic meters to 5/47 million cubic meters. It measures 6 km long and 1,700 to 3000 meters wide , encompassing an area of 720 hectares.
The word Zarivar or Zaribar , they are both common, consists of :a word: Zari , which means a lake in Kurdish, and a suffix “ Var “or” Bar” meaning resembling.
There are some legends about it the most famous of which believes there is a city buried under its water.
Bal waterfall
It lies in one of the villages in Oraman on the borders of Kermanshahan , in the village of Bal. Nearby the village along the road leading up to Kuse Hajij , lies a beautiful waterfall which has the coolest drinking water, according to experts. Water runs out of the mountains under pressure and creates a magnificent and glorious waterfall. Its water pours into Sirvan river on its path.Cheshme Sarab in Vinsar
One of the old springs of Ghorveh, features cool and peasant water which ejects out of the ground in the village of Vinsar.Actually it’s the centerpiece. It has long been used to supply drinking water of the villagers as well as water for agricultural purposes.
The stone surrounding of the main spring is about 2 to 3 centuries old.
Until about 30 years ago , the villagers used to hold thanksgiving ceremonies in Khordad to celebrate the blessing of the spring and had fun. They would slaughter domestic livestock. They and paid a special tribute to the spring.
