2-Excuses of the Jewish people because of their faith and disbelief
The purpose of Martyr Beheshti in expressing the excuses of the Israelites was demonstrating the lack of fortitude and faith and perseverance of these people because, in the absence of faith, when difficulties and problems are magnified to humans then the people might begin to make excuses. The continuation of this process of making excuses leads to the collapse of any uprising and social movements. The fate of the Jewish people, as expressed by martyr Beheshti, has not been exempt from this condition because when they were persecuted and tortured in Egypt and the Egyptians put them into slavery and compelled them to do forced labor, Moses left Egypt with the people and went to the Sinai desert. Moses brought many miracles for them in order to maintain their faith and his miracles were to the point that none of the other prophets had performed miracles to this extent for his nation. The reason for performing so many of these miracles was to encourage the people not to lose faith so that they could make a stand. Nevertheless, since they did not have faith among them and they sought the meaning of life in their bedrooms and in eating and receiving sexual pleasure, so with the slightest difficulty and hardship they said that they were abandoning their religion.
He has stated in an explanation:
After Joseph's death, the Egyptians found out that the Israelites were in fact pretentious, audacious and opportunist, while the Egyptians began to abuse and mistreat them. Since the Israelites had stout and muscular bodies and their population was also increasing every day. The Pharaoh’s system felt that if these people were allowed to grow more powerful and grow in number, one day after all they would have a revolution. Therefore, to avoid a possible revolution, a solution must be found. The solution to this was taking them for slavery and force them to do hard labor.
Martyr Beheshti adds:
With this condition, Moses later rose to the position to save the people but the people did not listen to this leader. Moses brought many signs for them and performed many miracles to keep them from losing their faith. Based on the life of Israel (as described in the Torah, Koran and in history), exceptional and miraculous events occurred, but the people were corrupted from within and they expressed their objection whenever they came upon the slightest obstacle and hardship in their path. They said: O’ Moses you stopped us. Because there we at least had a bite to eat, we had some water to drink. What is the unfortunate mess that you have created for us and you have made us wander around in the wilderness of the Sinai desert? Moses should bring revelations all the time for such a crowd to stop their desire for going back to the land of Egypt as social movements require fortitude and faith and they are persevered in this way, otherwise they are faced with insecurity and weakness. The people of Israel are a good example of such a nation as no true faith is raised within them and their happiness is not of a genuine and comprehensive assessment worthy of an excellent human being. Their faith is determined by a loaf of bread, sexual pleasure and the other trivia of life. For these people, no matter what sign one might reveal, they tend to regress once again.
Then, martyr Beheshti expresses one of the most important excuses of these people in the form of the golden calf (The Sumerian Calf) and continues to say that God wants to make the nature of these people clear to them. Ayatollah Beheshti has told the story of the golden calf and has concluded that "people sometimes deny and disbelieve, so goes this story that their eyes are open and yet they cannot behold the naked truth while it is before their eyes." And he then adds:
Quran then says that we did not want to introduce the killer by this exceptional event, rather we wanted to show to the Israelites their own nature, showing them what kind of people they were and wanted them to understand that when it comes to the resurrection and life after death, this is an example: See how easily God makes a dead man alive once more.
In general, if the movement of the Israelites in Egypt had no such a leader or had no such extraordinary and subsequent signs, it did not reach fruition at all.
Then, Ayatollah Beheshti said that the lack of faith and truth pushed these people to the collapse and corruption in the process:
The Israelites showed that a man that has such a low self-interest, one that has no inner voice of truth, friendship and worship, one whose innate passions do not attract him to the truth and his duty, such a man moves towards failure, rebellion and collapse even though all signs and clear arguments and the best guide and the best leaders chosen by god are provided for him. Behold the story of the Israelites and how God has blessed them! Look how special and specific were the symptoms given to them to recognize the path of righteousness but they failed to know this? And if they knew, but to what effect? What is the point of knowledge that is not followed by practice?
3. The self-isolation of the Jewish people
The most important question that has occupied the mind of martyr Beheshti is: Why are the Jews living in a small and closed community wherever they are? This closed life apart from the others seems to be a product of their self-made isolation and their upbringing or other ethnic or political factors such as the hostile nations or the Jewish people have created such an environment for themselves?
He also found out by his reviews of the history of Islam and the role of the Jews why at that time, which means the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Jews immigrated to Saudi Arabia and drew a fence around themselves and separated themselves from the others and they also tend to be isolated and fenced off in the current era as well. Therefore, he began to study the history of Islam and the role of the Jews and Christians in the Arabia and the outcome of this review was published in the book entitled "the environment where Islam emerged," and then step by step he has tried to answer these questions. He has said in this regard:
The history of the Jewish immigration to the land of Saudi Arabia and its origin is not clear to us, but the author of the Jewish history says about the Jewish immigration to the land of Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Peninsula and the factors involved here depend on various beliefs, but there is no doubt and dispute that many Jews fled their homeland because of the Roman oppressions and cruelties and sought refuge in the Arabia. If in Palestine or the European countries, the Jews did not do very well and had no comfort and well-being, contrariwise, in the Arabia, their living situation was quite satisfactory because they were not threatened and harassed by the Christian priests, but enjoyed the respect and love that their neighbors showed them.
It is obvious that due to the remoteness of the region of Hejaz and Najd a number of Jews had immigrated to Saudi Arabia centuries before the advent of Islam and more likely at the time which coincided the time of Jesus Christ or the second and third century after the birth of Jesus. At least, according to the existing Chronicles, about five centuries before Islam, namely the end of the first century of the Christian history, the Jewish immigration to the land of Hejaz had begun. The Jews saw that they could live freely in this region away from the hardships that the rulers and the people imposed on them.
But their lifestyle was such that they were separate from the others, and they continued the same procedure during the time of the Prophet of Islam. Although the Prophet held many opportunities and prosperity for the people of the book, and had tried to provide them with welfare as a duty, the Jews still lived in a separated environment. Martyr Beheshti expresses:
After the arrival of the prophet in Yathrib, a number of the people from the Ows and Khazraj had converted to Islam but a considerable number of them were infidels, and some were pagan, and had not converted to Islam yet. The Jews were also there. The total number of the Jews was not very different from the number of Arabs. Later, when the Prophet was elected as the leader and ruler of Yathrib, he prepared a treaty which exists in the history of Islam. In the treaty, the prophet allows the Jews and Christians to follow their own teachings, have their own temples and nobody could complain about this. In addition, the Prophet was committed to defending the life and property and the rights of all the inhabitants of Yathrib, including the Jews. This means that the Muslims were responsible for defending them.
Nevertheless, despite all this freedom, the Jews in Bani An-Nadir and Banu Mostalagh wanted to live separately, and they were separated from the Arabs who lived near them. This was the nature of Jewish life and now everywhere in the world they still have this character.
Martyr Beheshti, having said about the historical examples, suggested that in spite of the services of the Prophet of Islam for them, they did not have any sense of thankfulness and always worked against Islam and the Islamic communities. He adds:
Unfortunately, the widespread propaganda of the Zionist movement among the Jews in the world after Zionism tries to reflect the subject that the ruling powers did not allow them to live with others and live instead in the closed neighborhood and environments.
Doctor Beheshti, after explaining some facts, concludes that the reason for the self-isolation of the Jewish people is their social customs. What he means is that this isolation is not for the ruling countries but is self-imposed, but the Zionist propaganda and publications show this issue in order to stimulate the emotions of the liberal and humanitarian people of the world for their own benefit and they say: "What can be done? What could be done? The Jewish people were so oppressed and violated anywhere in the world and they were never allowed to live like other human beings.
To prove his claim, Ayatollah Beheshti uses a document from the regulations and explains a true incident which has happened to himself and, while proving the subject, he manages to link the issue with the extreme nationalism and racism among the Jewish people.
