In the village of Ali Sadr , a district in the small city of Kabudar A hang, 75km northwest of the city of Hamedan lies one of the most striking natural wonders across the world. The rare water cave known as Ali Sadr is a spot for boat rowing.

To access you will 3options:

1. Hamedàn, the newly-built Lalejin to Bijar road, which is in better condition.
2. The 3-way intersection of Nojeh air base, on the Razan-Hamedan road
3. Through Hamedan to Saleh Abad
It is located on the heights of Sari Ghiyah , yellow rock. Two other caves named Su Bashi and Sarab lie in the region , 11 and 7 km from Ali Sadr respectively.

Formation history

The geologists believe that the rocks of the mountain date from the second geologic period of Jurassic , 136 to 190 million years ago, and the finds from the cave indicate it has been a settlement place for primitive humans.
The villagers of Alisadr and the surrounding villages had long found it and exploited its water but it never functioned as a tourism spot until a team of 14 people in the mountain climbing board of Hamedan explored and searched the cave on Mehr 5th, 1342.
They managed to go forward inside with basic tools like flashlights and rubber tires. And in 1346, following the news of the amazing large cave exploration on the national media floods of researchers, mountain climbers, and nature enthusiasts poured in.
In 1352, the mountain climbers of Hamedan widened the entrance mouth to 50 cm and as of 1354 it was open to the public. At the time , the villagers would take travellers to show them round with the same basic tools aboard a boat.

How was it formed?

It came about as a result of the mixture of rain drops with carbon dioxide in the air. The combination resulted in weak carbonic acid penetrating into calcareous land. Chemical reactions have made an unstable combination named, bicarbonate calcium. Since it is soluble in water it has created tiny hollow spaces in calcareous layers. They developed over millions of years joining each other.
In fact, the creator of the wonderful world has created the extensive cave in the heart of the ground over millions of years with marvelous and striking appearance.

Alisadr's aesthetics

It is considered one of the most beautiful natural manifestations in Iran thanks to its long water passages and lakes throughout where you can enjoy boating. It's a unique phenomenon of its kind which has few parallels across the world, the ones like Mulis in France, Knight and Buchan in Australia.
Its water is colorless and has no odor. It tastes like usual water and no animals life is seen there. Its temperature is constant all year round , about 12 degrees C. It's so clear that it is possible to see up to a depth of 10 m in usual light and with naked eyes.
The results of physico-chemical tests show that chemical combinations in different areas are close, about the same, and considered as the light calcic bicarbonate waters with PH close to neutrality.
Since there is abundant calcareous salts it's not drinkable. The surplus water goes out of the cave through Cheshme Shur, salt spring and therefore in different seasons of the year its surface remains the same except for dry times. Yet, in little rain seasons it fluctuates. You can see its signs on the walls.
The water's depth is different ranging between 0 to 14 m throughout the cave. It is supplied through the underground springs, waters off the ceiling and walls of the cave. They are generally rainfalls. The ceiling which measures a height of 10 m from the water surface in some areas is covered in pure calcium carbonate or combined with other elements which come into existence on the path of water from outside in.
The deposits have formed stalactites in different shapes and on the floor and in areas with no water plentiful stalagmites in amazing shapes are seen. The scenery inside is marvelous with delicate and clean air, void of any particles, dust and microbe. It is cool in summer and warm and pleasant in wintertime.
Also, the light air doesn't move at all and if you light up a candle inside, its flame won't ever move. In some passages a distance of 10 to 11 km has been explored but all the canals and linking networks are not discovered yet. Currently, after the boat riding route the walking path starts up in dry areas and with a fairly long walk the water route starts over again.
So far 14 km of the passages have been explored of which only 4 km with proper lighting is open to the public. On the whole, a visit to the wide space where the great icicle exists in the third and fourth islands, boating, promenading, and going through the meandering water passages and corridors with crystal ceiling would make you praise the unbelievably marvelous masterpiece of the creation world. No word could ever describe a piece of its extreme beauty.
The recreational facilities in the resort collection of the cave for tourists include:
1. A guesthouse
2. 10 wooden villas with single and double bedrooms
3. 16 residential suites
4. 50 tents
As well as, restaurant, market for shopping groceries and handicrafts, prayer's house, public rest rooms, parking lots, kids playground, green open space, and mountain climbing facilities
