Over the last couple of decades, the establishment of several museums and art galleries throughout the country has been in place which reflects the atention of its people to the culture and civilization.
In addition, keeping ancient objects and preserving them have been significant more than ever before.
Recognizing the works of the land's ancestors is indeed a way of maintaining the national identity. In this regard, anthropology and archeology museums, handicrafts galleries etc. show the special attention of the people in Ardebil to the culture and civilization and preservation of the precious Heritage of the region.
The elegant building in the Archeology Museum in Ardebil is regarded among the main architectural designs of the province. Built in two storeys, it covers an area of over 1,700 square m. One of the well-equipped archeology museums in the country, it was opened up on Aban 29th, 1387, solar calendar.
The building also covers part of the area surrounding the historic and cultural collection of Sheikh Safi Aldin Ardebili Mausoleum. It's art works represent a small part of the human civilizations in the province. They date from the pre-Islamic and post-islamic eras.
The historical and cultural objects in the museum showcase their age and material in 2 evolutionary stages in the history of Ardebil's culture.
In the windows on the first floor and ground floor various simple and decorated pottery pieces in different periods of Islam's history, gray-colored dishes, pottery items designed in Ardebili style, dating from the Alchaemenid and the Partihans, as well as Ritooon, which is a kind of pottery dish made based on the shape of animals, are exhibited to the public.
The Pottery items in early, mid and late Islamic era include a wide range of thoroughly turquoise pottery, multicoloured designed pieces, white and blue pottery objects, and carved pieces covered in glaze( celadon glaze).

Most of the works in pottery are amongst the highly prominent in Iran and Ardebil in the Islamic period.
Glass and metal objects are among other displayed works in the museum which make you familiar with the art and techniques in glass making and metal works of the land. They date back from the first millennium BC up to the Sassanid era and the holy Islamic era.
In some windows, coins of different historical periods in Iran and Byzantine are kept which date from the Sassanid era and early times after Islam up to the 12th century AH. They are made of gold, silver etc.
The coins are highly significant as archeologic research can be carried out on them to introduce a part of Iran's art and skills in coining. Furthermore, they indicate how calligraphy has evolved over the years.
In addition to watching the old objects, you can also visit the layers and strata of the ancient zone of Ghale Buyni Yughun Castle, which has been restored, on the east part of the lower floor.
