sets misaligned with hijab were limited in a minority of the high - and medium - sized level; but various factors that were mentioned before (such as the cultural commingling, an increase of connection of people of the community with the hijab-misaligned sets and … ) , widespread being unveiled and a major part of the society were in the sets misaligned with the hijab and in mass media and public opinion it is assumed that being unveiled is the normative attitude and behavior of the majority and the public.
- majority is " interesting " and has " credibility " ; and so attributing the unveiled to the majority is another factor that makes the misaligned sets to the hijab as an " interesting " and " credibility " one.
In summary, foreign and domestic sets misaligned with the hijab, have high progress, knowledge, income and higher education due to the treatment and public believe that these people are in the majority of society. It is considered that high relationship with the hijab misaligned sets were also among the factors that decreases the doubtful look at such sets and increases their attractiveness.
1. The impact of grace and credit of hijab-misaligned sets on reviving the being unveiled
1-1. charm:
Existing attractions in domestic and foreign entities misaligned with the hijab, makes people wear hijab due to internal and external reward.A) Intrinsic rewards:
People, with cloning with the hijab-misaligned sets - that have the importance, value, and grace – feel a sense of being importance that is one of the basic needs of the people. Thus providing this requirement by cloning, is an inner reward that reinforces the motivation of cloning with hijab-misaligned sets.the lady who thought she resembles the Westerners people, Mrs. Doctors , Mrs. Engineers and prosperous ladies who show part of their hair and makeup, or a man who shows his wife in this way, feel an indescribable identity, more or less like educated families , the rich and the high level people.
In contrast, the lady, who has hijab, according to her notions (due to pressure from her family feels like the lower classes of society and thus her husband may feel more or less a low identity as well as the people and the families of the lower orders and levels. So they try to escape such inner punishment and begin to move towards being unveiled.
B) External rewards:
different people of society, depending on what social level they belong , receive different privileges of different ownership, power and psychological reward (such as personal dignity and respect in the eyes of others ), privileges that people of high level receive more and people of low level receive less.tend to enjoy privileges of high social level , makes people to promote their social level through education, good job and high income or may be a new identity and nationality of Western countries (especially in our society that there is much greedy to promote social level ) but promoting social base needs a lot of time and cost, because the person must tries for years of labor , education to earn good job and money through many problems, or accept Western citizenship ; while they can achieve this only by employing some " Symbols " of social base , and some of the special privileges of the social base ; hence , common people use such symbols of social base and high level people to promote their level , such as coverage, clothes, attire , make up , the type of words and expressions , etc.
Accordingly, it can be concluded: A lot of people of our society, with the intention of enjoyment of some concessions of social base try to be unveiled and this is a” symbolic” way to show their being high class. In fact, some concessions of social base (like social dignity and honor), are external rewards that lead people to being "unveiled”.
When people often observe unveiled people in different environments (University , hospitals, offices , shops, on the street and into public transport , workplaces and …) consider them as people who have high social base , and respect them and their requests would be considered most important requests , and in contrast we consider veiled people as those belonging to the low social base ( those illiterate, peasant , and inner - city … ) and disrespect them, in this case, to be safe from the negative consequences of hijab ( injury and neglect of others) and enjoyment of social benefits of being unveiled and " respect " of others , people try to be unveiled.
1-2. Credit:
One of the internal tendencies of humans is tend to have true behaviors and attitudes. This tendency make people to internalize the attitude of individuals that are right or considered true. Therefore, ‘unveiled’ individuals are considered respectful people whose attitude and behavior are considered true, but in front of them there are institutes in line with hijab that accordingly lack progress, knowledge and expertise, and they are in minority, they do not have enough credit and are considered as illiterate superstitious people, and their attitudes about the hijab are not considered important.
In total, more attractive and credibility of people and domestic and foreign entities misaligned with the hijab, compared with the series in line with the hijab, has caused a negative behavior and attitude toward hijab, and therefor being unveiled has been spread in our society .
2. Credit and attraction of hijab-misaligned sets in different periods
Although foreign and domestic sets misaligned with the hijab, in the beginning had the credit and attraction resulted from progress and development, income, wealth and higher education ,but they were not still accepted in the public, and on the other hand , religious beliefs, values and norms (especially the hijab norms that were objective and tangible symbol of chastity and religiosity) were respected by the people; so social distance between the public and those unveiled people was very much and their charm and credibility was much less in front of clerics and scholars. The credibility and charm of such unveiled people spread among the people when the bulk of people communicated with them. On the other hand, religious beliefs, values and norms, weakened and; due to factors such as the mass media relationship with modernists increased, and the material values and norms had been devoted more than before.
In such a situation, the social distance of majority of people with foreign and domestic sets misaligned with the hijab decreased, and they would be considered less as a stranger; as a result the credit and attraction of such sets increased.
The maximum increase of connection with sets misaligned to the hijab , as well as the development of the mass media were as the two factors that decreased the social gap between the people and sets misaligned to the hijab, weakening the religious beliefs , values and norms , and reinforcing the values and norms of the material, secular and foreign cultures) within the time of the 1340 , it can be said that the fourth effective variable in being unveiled was after 1340 and this variable was one of the factors that increased being unveiled in this period.
3. Costs and benefits
Four previous variables, partly demonstrates the prevalence of being unveiled in our society either in the environments or the communication sets ; but more detailed explanation is based on looking at it from the angle of intellectual and selection in terms of costs and benefits in comparison with the hijab.Factors that makes the costs and benefits of being unveiled acceptable in comparison with veil, and in other words its positive and negative, formal and informal consequences, are more acceptable in comparison with the costs and benefits of hijab that include : 1. Internalization of being unveiled ; 2 . Reduction of connection with the series in line with the hijab; 3. Shrinking the power of family; 4. Reduction of unofficial relations
3-1. Internalization of being unveiled
it became clear that since a period , the sets misaligned with hijab became very attractive for a considerable part of society , and they found more credit than sets that were in line with the hijab, consequently, for this section of society , " veil " did not become internal or we can say that being unveiled became as a social , internal normative.Lack of internalization of hijab as a valuable behavior makes firstly, the unveiled people did not have a negative assessment of their dress, and there is no cost and negative consequences of their dressing since hijab has not become internal for them. and because such people in such a case, don't feel anything wrong or they do not think their act is a practical petty; secondly, social sanctions or external controls that have been performed formally by particular organizations or informally through the public against them, is not compatible with internal control and, consequently, they are not very effective to achieve the hijab.
In contrast, the internalization of being unveiled by a significant part of society, makes the unveiled people to have a positive assessment of their own and feel valued and honesty which is an inner reward and benefit that strengthen their behavior; but veiled people feel humiliation which is an inner cost and negative consequence that impede the continuity and repeat of the treat.
If such unveiled people receive punishment from the official and unofficial sets in line with the hijab, or they receive social external controls, they will not change their mind to abandon being unveiled since the external punishment is not in line with their inner punishment. But if veiled people face the situations that possibly would ridicule them for their hijab, they would more probably change their coverage and will be unveiled since the external punishment is align with their inner punishment.
Even in the religious city of Qom, I have witnessed those bad hijab people- from other cities to Qum – that resist against the protest of others namely the external controls without the least shame and easily continue their behavior. In return, several instances of people with the full veil (chador) can be observed that in a journey to another city (like Tehran) lose their veils, due to the fallout of the expected objective and not real objectives.
In total, internalization of hijab , and, above all , internalization of being unveiled by a major part of the society makes the total internal costs namely the negative assessment of oneself and external costs namely the formal and informal detention of being unveiled become less than the internal and external costs of hijab; as total internal interests of being unveiled namely the positive assessment of oneself and its outer benefit namely encouraging by others ) would be more than the internal and external interests in compliance with the hijab and being unveiled would be reinforce in the society .
