Enemies in Islam

Alertness against enemy in war and peace:
Recognition of enemies in previous aspects and selection of appropriate ways in confrontation with enemies need alertness, intelligence and attention. Khamenei states about this matter '' since enemies have known Islamic Revolution, they apply new ways; hence, the Muslims of the world should be alert''.
He also considers recognition of features of university students of mobilization of the army as a main pillar and states about them
''Mobilization of the University students should always remind ambushed enemies and should not leave themselves and their country to enemies ignorantly. In fact, they follow cultural and rational war the same as attendance in the battlefields intelligently and diligently and consider themselves soldiers of the Islam, revolution and children of Khomeini under any circumstances''.
Not belittling enemies
Enemies, whether weak or strong, are considered as foes and they should not be considered weak and secure because they do whatever in order to remove their rivalry. Hence, persons should always be alert and should not be deceived by tricks and conspiracies of enemies. Imam Ali states about this matter.
'' لَا تَسْتَصْغِرَنَّ عَدُوّاً وَ إِنْ ضَعُفَ''
Khamenei states about this matter '' you should not imagine that enemies of Islam have given up their animosity. In fact, they are preparing their conspiracies and will go forward if they find a chance. Of course, when they are said '' you intend conspiracy, crime or domination, they will deny, but if they find a chance, they will go forward even a fort; this is nature of enemy''.
Fighting against enemy
Promoting culture of Jihad and martyrdom is one of necessities of Islamic society. Muslims should constantly try to introduce enemies and to revitalize spirit of war with them in next generations. Khamenei gets the attention of people to this point, introduces their neglect from it as the greatest danger ad states '' main purpose of enemies is to make them neglectful so that they can achieve their purposes. Some of them try to deny existence of enemies which is the greatest danger''.

a. Remaining in true path
Seeking reality, tending to it and remaining in true path are considered as norms that have main role in confrontation with enemies. Khamenei states about this matter '' what should be paid attention in Islamic system is that true path cannot be recognized from false path. If false path is changed to true path, there will be no problem, but these paths should not collide with each other. We should determine who is true, where it is, what its purpose, decision, tactic and action are and who is false and what its purpose, decision, tactic and action are; such matters should not be ignored.
b. Guardianship as a pivot in confrontation with enemies
Guardianship as a pivot should not be ignored in confrontation with enemies. Only way of confronting with enemies and achieving happiness is to obey guardians and persons that he has assigned. Moreover, as a general, following orders of manger or leader is guarantee of achieving purposes of each system. Khamenei states '' I recommend you to move in the right path of Islam, revolution and guardianship. The first condition for a devout nation is to consider guardians of their affairs as authority. When position of an official changes, people should give up against their leader; this is perpetual recommendation and belongs all places. There is no problem that people express their remarks to their officials, but they should accept and obey whatever they decide. This is rational way of savory and victory over enemies''.
An example of failure of Islam army due to lack of obedience is seen in Ohod War. Khamenei states '' one of factors that led to defeat in Ohod War was lack of obedience. They did not listen a word of the prophet, a disaster arose. In era of Islamic Republic, wherever there was disobedience, disaster arose and wherever there was obedience, it led to growth, goodness and victory''.
b. Prudence and having up-to-date information against enemy
One of ways of complete preparation in confrontation with enemies is to increase prudence and to have up-to-date information against them. Since there are various arms for soft and hard war against enemies, constant observation of enemies, increase of prudence and up-to-date information from enemies will provide possibility of confrontation with them and defense against their attacks. Khamenei states about this matter '' opposite point of piety is neglect and ignorant movement. God does not accept neglect of the devout in affairs of the life. A devout person should be alert to all affairs of the life. As a matter of fact, such a matter helps them to be alert enough not to do actions against the religion of God''.
c. Providing complete preparation
There are different ways so as to prepare for war and since enemies do not ignore any tools and changes in order to eradicate Islam and revolution, a radical devout should keep their preparation in all aspects and areas and constantly try to expand and improve them.
Khamenei states about this matter '' we do not intend to fight and do not welcome it warmly, but we should know that we preserve out preparation completely when there are threatening temptations and it is obligatory that we never forget armed forces of the troop and the great organization of mobilization of the army''.
d. Being faithful to principles and purposes
If persons avoid even few of their principles and purposes, enemies will misuse because Quran states
'' وَ لَنْ تَرْضي‏ عَنْكَ الْيهُودُ وَ لَا النَّصاري‏ حَتَّي تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ''
''Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion''. Baqarah/ 120
Khamenei emphasizes on loyalty to principles and values of revolution under any circumstances and states
What was their purpose of the war?...did they want that Islamic republic gave up their principles and adapted themselves with universal domination. In return, Israeli did not fight with them hard in defending Muslims and innocent persons?
Heroic soft policy against enemies has been one of policies of Islamic system since last time, and recently, it is seen more conspicuously. Khamenei mentioned such a policy in last years. He states about such a policy
We have used the interpretation'' heroic soft adaptation'' and some have meant it '' giving up ideals and purposes of Islamic system and some enemies have considered it as an excuse that Islamic revolution gives up its principles. Such a thing is not true and is misunderstanding. Heroic soft behavior is artistic maneuver for achieving purpose''.
c. Applying ways of confronting with enemies
After a radical devout knows purposes, tools, programs and tactics of enemies and surveys ways of confronting with them, they will implement them as soon as possible because laxity in Jihad and giving chances to enemies will lead to failure and ignominy. We should do Jihad in the first chance alertly and suppress enemies tactically and alertly in a military way. Amir Al-Momenin states
'' وَ قُلْتُ لَكُمُ اغْزُوهُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْزُوكُمْ فَوَاللَّهِ ما غُزِي قَوْمٌ قَطُّ في عُقْرِدارِهِمْ الّا ذَلُّوا''
d. Firm confrontation with enemies
Khamenei knows well that succumbing against threats of enemies makes them bolder and it causes that they continue their non-sense remarks. Hence, Khamenei states
''We would not like assault against any countries or nations and we never start bloody war. As a matter of fact, Iranian nation has proved it and we will stand against any kinds of assaults and threats permanently and firmly. Furthermore, we never remain silent against material powers that threaten firm and strong nation of Iran. We threaten against threats and if someone wants to assault Islamic nation of Iran, they should be ready for painful slaps and fists (wounds) from powerful nation of Iran, armed forces, army of Islamic republic of Iran, mobilization of people and after all, great nation of Iran. Moreover, government of America, its agents, guardian dogs and Israeli should know that Nation of Iran will stand against any kinds of attacks, assaults and threats and will disintegrate and suppress them''.
e. Suspicion to enemies
Enemies never follow benevolence for persons and it is foolish that we think that enemies give up their animosity. In fact, they never give up their animosity even if they face to us smilingly. Quran refers to trust of Hazrat Adam to deceiving advices of Satan in Al-A'raaf in verses 20 and 21 and this cuased that he descended on the earth. Quran reminds in these verses that in spite of the fact that Satan swore, he broke his treaty and told a lie. In fact, this attribute is one of features of Annecy Satan.
Khamenei summons people and officials of the system to alertness against smiles of enemies over and over again. He states in one of his statements
''One of main affairs that we should do and should pay attention to is that we should not be deceived by smile of enemy and their false promises… deploy of material power that has dominated on the world will break its promises easily. In fact, they break their promises and treaties easily, tell lies easily and are not ashamed of God, people and negotiation sides''.
He also states '' if Islamic nations become weak and sluggish, lose their hope to God, smile at enemies and trust their tricks, they will definitely fail''.
In nuclear negotiations of Iran and the group '' 5+1'', the commander of the army of Iran considers America as the worst enemy that cannot be trusted and its reason is that American officials are arrogant, irrational and trespasser and states
''We are optimistic to committee of diplomacy of our dear nation and government. Of course, we are pessimistic to government of America and do not trust them. We consider the government of the U.S unreliable, arrogant, irrational and trespasser and it is under paws of international Zionism…''.
f. Neutralizing mental war of enemies
One of ways of suppressing rivalry is to induce fear and horror in them. Before enemies use military power, they try to weaken stamina of opposite side with induction of fear and discord in opposite side so that they can achieve their ominous purposes as soon as possible. Therefore, they definitely use agents deceived in the country and stupid persons.
Imam Khomeini states '' you should not panic from remarks that are expressed and things that are said in media especially from foreigner governments. In fact, power and country are in our hands''.
Khamenei states about induction of fear from enemies '' I understand that enemies want to achieve their purpose with induction of fear. Relying on power of God embodied in power of our great country, we do not panic from arrogant enemies and believe that they can never do any actions against us. Quran states
''انَّ كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَانِ كَانَ ضَعِيفًا Nisaa/ 76 ''
g. Observation of morality and religious rules
One of manners of confrontation with enemies is to behave them fairly and frankly. Imam Ali states about this matter
''لَمْ يتَّصَفْ بِالْمُرُوَّه مَنْ لَمْ يَرْعَ ذِمَّةَ اَوْلِيائِهِ وَ يُنْصِفْ أعْدَائَهُ''
Hazrat Ali constantly behaved enemies fairly and frankly. In battle of ditch, when he suppressed the well-known enemy of Arab '' Umar bin Abdud'', he did not take the precious armor of the enemy although it was common in that era. When he was asked about its reason, he stated
''إِنِّي اسْتَحْيَيْتُ أَنْ أَكْشِفَ ابْنَ عَمِّي''
He also stated to his troops
''لَا تُقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى يَبْدَءُوكُمْ ... فَإِذَا كَانَتِ الْهَزِيمَةُ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ فَلَا تَقْتُلُوا مُدْبِراً وَ لَا تُصِيبُوا مُعْوِراً وَ لَا تُجْهِزُوا عَلَى جَرِيحٍ...''
Courtesy and avoidance of abusing are considered as morality observation.
''إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَكُونُوا سَبَّابِينَ وَ لَكِنَّكُمْ لَوْ وَصَفْتُمْ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَ ذَكَرْتُمْ حَالَهُمْ كَانَ أَصْوَبَ فِي الْقَوْلِ وَ أَبْلَغَ فِي الْعُذْرِ وَ قُلْتُمْ مَكَانَ سَبِّكُمْ إِيَّاهُمْ اللَّهُمَّ احْقِنْ دِمَاءَنَا وَ دِمَاءَهُمْ وَ أَصْلِحْ ذَاتَ بَيْنِنَا وَ بَيْنِهِمْ وَ اهْدِهِمْ مِنْ ضَلَالَتِهِمْ حَتَّى يَعْرِفَ الْحَقَّ مَنْ جَهِلَهُ وَ يَرْعَوِيَ عَنِ الْغَيِّ وَ الْعُدْوَانِ مَنْ لَهِجَ بِه''
