And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure of Allah: And Allah is full of kindness to (His) devotees. (Baghare Surah/ verse 207).
In the Bethat thirteenth, the heads of blasphemy felt they were at risk from Muslims because the prophet (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) had a strong and appropriate base in Yasreb (it was called '' Al-Medina later on) and they had accepted that they saved the life of the prophet; therefore, the heads of Ghoreish Tribe set up a meeting in Dar Al-Anduh (the place of meetings of the heads of Ghoreish). The topic of their meeting was how to murder the prophet (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants). At first, a person suggested that a person volunteered and killed him and if Bani Hashem wants to fight against us, we will pay his blood money. An unknown old man that was in the meeting introduced himself as Najdi rejected this opinion and said '' Bani Hashem will never agree with blood money and request us not to kill him. Therefore, if someone wants to do it, at first he should ignore his life and there isn't such a person among you''.
Another person whose name was '' Abu Al-Bakhtari'' said '' imprison him in order to prevent him from isuuing his thoughts. The old man disagreed with their suggestion again. The third person suggested '' tie him on the wild camel and leave him alone in the desert so that he dies from hunger and thirst and if he remains alive and descends in another tribe, they will kill him because of his remarks against idols''. The old man disagreed with them again.
There was silence all over the meeting. Suddenly Abu Jahl said '' we had better choose a person from each tribe in order to kill him and they assault him together and cut his body in different pieces so that all of tribes understand that he has been killed. Therefore, Bani Hashem cannot fight with all of tribes ''. All of them agreed with this opinion and confirmed it.
Terrorists were chosen and they were supposed to do their mission. According to the narration of the interpreters, the angel of divine message descended and informed the prophet of the ominous plan of the polytheists. The prophet (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) was supposed to travel Yasreb according to the order of God. Getting rid of the cruel officials of the government was not easy because the enemies had kept an eye on him and distance between Mecca and Medina was a lot and they may invaded the prophet behind him. Therefore, the messenger of God wanted Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) to sleep in his bed and sacrifice himself for the Islam so that the polytheists imagined that the prophet did not leave there and he was at home. Finally, they had to circle his house and let the persons go and come freely.
The prophet (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) looked at Ali and said '' sleep in my bed and cover yourself with green cover that I cover myself in the time of sleep because a conspiracy has been done by opponents and I should migrate to Yasreb (Medina)''.
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) slept in the bed of the prophet from the beginning of the night. When the morning time arrived, the order of attack was issued. They assaulted the house of the prophet as they had sword in their hand. They entered the room of the prophet and Imam Ali (peace be upon him) picked up his pillow, uncovered green cover and said mildly '' what are you saying?'' they said '' we want to know where Muhammad is''. Amir Al-Momenin (peace be upon him) said '' did you leave him to me to want him from me? Now he isn't at home''.
Since Abu Jah had not achieved to his purpose, he looked at his companions and said '' if we fight in order to kill him, Muhammad will save''.
Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) said '' O' Abu Jahl! Are you talking about me in this way?'' then he added '' O' Abu Jahl! God has granted me thought and if all stupid persons and mad persons share this thought, all of them will become wise. Moreover, God has granted me power and if all of victims share this power, all of them will become powerful. Furthermore, God has granted me courage and if all of timid persons share this courage, all of them will become brave. God has also granted me wisdom and if all of persons without wisdom share this wisdom, they will become sagacious.
Hearing these remarks, their face became red due to a lot of anger and anger pressed their throat. They were regretful that they waited until the morning and they expressed that Abu Lahab was fault because he had suggested them to wait until the morning and then invaded.
That historical night was one of examples of selflessness for the Islam and it was done by Amir Al-Momenin, Imam Ali (peace be upon him).
The generosity and the selflessness of Imam Ali (peace be upon him):
''Generosity comes from a generous person and kindness and attraction establishes among persons in the community. A generous person is under the affection in the public with all of his or her faults''.
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was well known as a generous person and Kabe was the shelter of the poor persons. Whoever became poor went to the presence of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and since he was a gentle man, he would not like to disgrace the poor person.
When Hareth Hamadani went to Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in order to get help and Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) said '' have you considered me qualified to be asked?''
He said '' O' Amir Al-Momenin! Yes. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) turned off the lamp right away and said '' I did it because I never wanted that you felt ashamed to express matters''.
One day, a poor person came to Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) and requested some money. Imam Ali said to his agent to give him thousand Dinars. The agent asked '' should it be gold or silver?'' Imam Ali said '' it does matter whether you give him silver or god and see which one is better than for needy persons''.
Moavie that was the hard enemy of Hazrat Ali asked a person '' from where are you coming?''
To flatter, the person said '' I am coming from Ali that is the meanest person''. Moavie said '' Woe you! No one is as generous as Ali. If there are the warehouse of gold and the warehouse of straw, he forgives gold warehouse straw warehouse''. sooner than
One of the consultants of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) brought the benefits of his land for him and he distributed his income among the poor. At the same day, they saw that Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was selling swords in order to supply bread for his or her family.
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) never rejected any needy persons and said '' if I understand that someone wants something from me, I will forestall to meet his or her need because the reality of granting is to grant things to others without request.
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) wanted the poor persons to write their need on the piece of paper so that they could not feel ashamed. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) had four Dirhams. He granted one Dirham in the time of night, one Dirham in the daylight, one Dirham clearly and a Dirham secretly. When this verse descended, the interpreters have said about the rank of descending it about charity
الذين ينفقون اموالهم بالليل و النهار سرا و علانيه فلهم اجرهم عند ربهم و لا خوف عليهم و لا هم يحزنون .
'' Persons that grant their properties in the night and in the day have reward in God and there are no fear and grief for them''.
When Imam Ali (peace be upon him) achieved to caliphate, an Arabic man came to him and said '' I am suffering from three kinds of diseases, breathing problem, ignorance and poverty''. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said '' if you are sick, you should refer to a physician, if you are stupid, you should refer to a scientist and if you are poor, you should refer to a rich person''.
The man said '' you are a physician, a scientist and a rich man''.
Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) ordered to grant three thousand Dirham to him from Beit Al-Mal, thousand Dirham for curing his disease, thousand Dirham for curing distress and thousand Dirham for removing ignorance.
Special and public scientists and interpreters have narrated'' when Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was praying and was in Roku (bowing), a poor person that was asking a question passed by him. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) granted the ring in his hand with gesture. When the poor person got away, he faced with the messenger of God (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants). Hazrat asked '' who granted this ring to you?'' the poor person referred to Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and said '' this person is in Roku (bowing). Then the verse of guardianship descended. In addition, this verse refers to the help of Hazrat Ali to the poor.
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) not only forgave his property, but he also scarified his life in the true life. In the night of migration, he ignored his life because of the messenger of God (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) and welcome death. The real meaning of selflessness is what only Imam Ali (peace be upon him) achieved to.
Selflessness is that you prefer the life of others to your life. If someone does not have complete control over his or her life, she or he cannot sacrifice his or her life and wealth for someone else. This is considered as one of moral principles and one of attributes that anyone cannot obtain it. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) supplied bread with a lot of difficulty in order to take for his children. On the way, he saw a poor person that was hungry. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) gave the bread to him and came back home without bread. One day, he went to the mall with his servant, Ghanbar, and bought two old and new shirts. He wore the old one and gave the new one to Ghanbar.
Interpreting the following verses of Dehar Surah, Some Hadith tellers, historians and interpreters have said about the selflessness of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) with difference in phrases and words '' when Hazrat Hosnin(peace be upon him) became sick, his parents and Hosnin avowed that if he improved, they would fast for three days in order to thank God for and the servant of their house, Feze, followed them''.
When God healed him, they implemented their vow and fasted for three days. Imam Ali(peace be upon him) borrowed three sae barley from Jewish Shamun that was neighbor and brought it to home. Hazrat Zahar(peace be upon her) floured on third barley on the first day( according to the members of the family) and baked five loaves of bread. In the first night of Eftar, a poor person called behind the door '' O' the family of the prophet! I am an orphan and am hungry. Give me from whatever you eat. God grants you the blessings of the heaven. The dynasty of the prophet gave five loaves of prophet to the poor person and broke their fast with water.
On the second day, Hazrat Fateme (peace be upon her) floured three parts of the barley and baked five loaves of bread. In the time of the fast, an orphan repeated the remarks of the poor person in the last night. She gave five loaves of the bread to her and fasted with water. On the third day, Hazrat Fateme (peace be upon her) baked with the rest of the barely and in the time of Eftar, a captured person came behind the door and repeated the remarks of the poor persons in the last nights. The dynasty of the prophet gave the loaves of bread to him and they drank only water. On the fourth day, Hosnin (peace be upon him) was shivering like the chicken. When the prophet (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) saw them, he said '' I resort to God; you are in such a situation for three days. Gabriel descended immediately and recited 18 verses of Dehar (from 5 to 22) in relation to their rank and the explanation of their rank in the heaven for the messenger of God (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants). One of verses refers to their charity and their food in these three days as God states
و يطعمون الطعام علي حبه مسكينا و يتيما و اسيرا
''God has appreciated their sincere action at the end of descended verses and said '' OF course, this (the ranks and the blessings of the heaven explained in the previous verses) is the reward of your action and your try has been awarded''.
