Tolerance in the political Sire of Imam Ali (peace be upon him)

Quran states about tolerance
إِذًا لَّأَذَقْنَاکَ ضِعْفَ الْحَیَاةِ وَضِعْفَ الْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَکَ عَلَیْنَا نَصِیرًا
In that case We should have made thee taste an equal portion (of punishment) in this life, and an equal portion in death: and moreover thou wouldst have found none to help thee against Us.
Quran introduces itself mercy and healing and states
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِینَ ۙ وَلَا یَزِیدُ الظَّالِمِینَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur´an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.
وَیَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ فِی کُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِیدًا عَلَیْهِم مِّنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ وَجِئْنَا بِکَ شَهِیدًا عَلَىٰ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ۚ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَیْکَ الْکِتَابَ تِبْیَانًا لِّکُلِّ شَیْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِینَ
One day We shall raise from all Peoples a witness against them, from amongst themselves: and We shall bring thee as a witness against these (thy people): and We have sent down to thee the Book explaining all things, a Guide, a Mercy, and Glad Tidings to Muslims.
God states to the prophet
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاکَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِینَ
We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures.
Quran states that the believers are the brother of each other
إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَیْنَ أَخَوَیْکُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّکُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
The Believers are but a single Brotherhood: So make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers; and fear Allah, that ye may receive Mercy.
Quran states about tolerance with persons
یَا أَیُّهَا الَّذِینَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَکُمْ وَأَیْدِیَکُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوا بِرُءُوسِکُمْ وَأَرْجُلَکُمْ إِلَى الْکَعْبَیْنِ ۚ وَإِن کُنتُمْ جُنُبًا فَاطَّهَّرُوا ۚ وَإِن کُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰ أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ مِّنکُم مِّنَ الْغَائِطِ أَوْ لَامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَیَمَّمُوا صَعِیدًا طَیِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِکُمْ وَأَیْدِیکُم مِّنْهُ ۚ مَا یُرِیدُ اللَّهُ لِیَجْعَلَ عَلَیْکُم مِّنْ حَرَجٍ وَلَٰکِن یُرِیدُ لِیُطَهِّرَکُمْ وَلِیُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَیْکُمْ لَعَلَّکُمْ تَشْکُرُونَ
O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles. If ye are in a state of ceremonial impurity, bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands, Allah doth not wish to place you in a difficulty, but to make you clean, and to complete his favour to you, that ye may be grateful.
وَجَاهِدُوا فِی اللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ ۚ هُوَ اجْتَبَاکُمْ وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَیْکُمْ فِی الدِّینِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ ۚ مِّلَّةَ أَبِیکُمْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ ۚ هُوَ سَمَّاکُمُ الْمُسْلِمِینَ مِن قَبْلُ وَفِی هَٰذَا لِیَکُونَ الرَّسُولُ شَهِیدًا عَلَیْکُمْ وَتَکُونُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ ۚ فَأَقِیمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّکَاةَ وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِاللَّهِ هُوَ مَوْلَاکُمْ ۖ فَنِعْمَ الْمَوْلَىٰ وَنِعْمَ النَّصِیرُ
And strive in His cause as ye ought to strive, (with sincerity and under discipline). He has chosen you, and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion; it is the cult of your father Abraham. It is He Who has named you Muslims, both before and in this (Revelation); that the Messenger may be a witness for you, and ye be witnesses for mankind! So establish regular Prayer, give regular Charity, and hold fast to Allah! He is your Protector - the Best to protect and the Best to help.
Quran orders to the prophet
وَلَا تَسْتَوِی الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّیِّئَةُ ۚ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِی هِیَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِی بَیْنَکَ وَبَیْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ کَأَنَّهُ وَلِیٌّ حَمِیمٌ
Nor can goodness and Evil be equal. Repel (Evil) with what is better: Then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate.
وَمَا یُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الَّذِینَ صَبَرُوا وَمَا یُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِیمٍ
And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint,- none but persons of the greatest good fortune.
وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِّنَ الْمُشْرِکِینَ اسْتَجَارَکَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّىٰ یَسْمَعَ کَلَامَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ أَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَهُ ۚ ذَٰلِکَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا یَعْلَمُونَ
If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge.
وَلَقَدْ أُوحِیَ إِلَیْکَ وَإِلَى الَّذِینَ مِن قَبْلِکَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَکْتَ لَیَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُکَ وَلَتَکُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِینَ
But it has already been revealed to thee,- as it was to those before thee,- "If thou wert to join (gods with Allah), truly fruitless will be thy work (in life), and thou wilt surely be in the ranks of those who lose (all spiritual good).
Quran states about tolerance of Muslims

الَّذِینَ یَحْمِلُونَ الْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُ یُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَیُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَیَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِینَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا وَسِعْتَ کُلَّ شَیْءٍ رَّحْمَةً وَعِلْمًا فَاغْفِرْ لِلَّذِینَ تَابُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا سَبِیلَکَ وَقِهِمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِیمِ
Those who sustain the Throne (of Allah) and those around it Sing Glory and Praise to their Lord; believe in Him; and implore Forgiveness for those who believe: "Our Lord! Thy Reach is over all things, in Mercy and Knowledge. Forgive, then, those who turn in Repentance, and follow Thy Path; and preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.
قُل لِّمَن مَّا فِی السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ قُل لِّلَّهِ ۚ کَتَبَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ الرَّحْمَةَ ۚ لَیَجْمَعَنَّکُمْ إِلَىٰ یَوْمِ الْقِیَامَةِ لَا رَیْبَ فِیهِ ۚ الَّذِینَ خَسِرُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا یُؤْمِنُونَ
Say: "To whom belongeth all that is in the heavens and on earth?" Say: "To Allah. He hath inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy. That He will gather you together for the Day of Judgment, there is no doubt whatever. It is they who have lost their own souls, that will not believe''.
وَإِذَا جَاءَکَ الَّذِینَ یُؤْمِنُونَ بِآیَاتِنَا فَقُلْ سَلَامٌ عَلَیْکُمْ ۖ کَتَبَ رَبُّکُمْ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ الرَّحْمَةَ ۖ أَنَّهُ مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنکُمْ سُوءًا بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَنَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِیمٌ
When those come to thee who believe in Our signs, Say: "Peace be on you: Your Lord hath inscribed for Himself (the rule of) mercy: verily, if any of you did evil in ignorance, and thereafter repented, and amend (his conduct), lo! He is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ کُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِیظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِکَ ۖ فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِی الْأَمْرِ ۖ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَکَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ یُحِبُّ الْمُتَوَکِّلِینَ
It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (Their faults), and ask for (Allah´s) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast Taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).
مُّحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللَّهِ ۚ وَالَّذِینَ مَعَهُ أَشِدَّاءُ عَلَى الْکُفَّارِ رُحَمَاءُ بَیْنَهُمْ ۖ تَرَاهُمْ رُکَّعًا سُجَّدًا یَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانًا ۖ سِیمَاهُمْ فِی وُجُوهِهِم مِّنْ أَثَرِ السُّجُودِ ۚ ذَٰلِکَ مَثَلُهُمْ فِی التَّوْرَاةِ ۚ وَمَثَلُهُمْ فِی الْإِنجِیلِ کَزَرْعٍ أَخْرَجَ شَطْأَهُ فَآزَرَهُ فَاسْتَغْلَظَ فَاسْتَوَىٰ عَلَىٰ سُوقِهِ یُعْجِبُ الزُّرَّاعَ لِیَغِیظَ بِهِمُ الْکُفَّارَ ۗ وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِینَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ مِنْهُم مَّغْفِرَةً وَأَجْرًا عَظِیمًا
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.
وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الَّذِینَ یَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلَامًا
And the servants of (Allah) Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, "Peace''.
هُمُ الَّذِینَ کَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوکُمْ عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَالْهَدْیَ مَعْکُوفًا أَن یَبْلُغَ مَحِلَّهُ ۚ وَلَوْلَا رِجَالٌ مُّؤْمِنُونَ وَنِسَاءٌ مُّؤْمِنَاتٌ لَّمْ تَعْلَمُوهُمْ أَن تَطَئُوهُمْ فَتُصِیبَکُم مِّنْهُم مَّعَرَّةٌ بِغَیْرِ عِلْمٍ ۖ لِّیُدْخِلَ اللَّهُ فِی رَحْمَتِهِ مَن یَشَاءُ ۚ لَوْ تَزَیَّلُوا لَعَذَّبْنَا الَّذِینَ کَفَرُوا مِنْهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِیمًا
They are the ones who denied Revelation and hindered you from the Sacred Mosque and the sacrificial animals, detained from reaching their place of sacrifice. Had there not been believing men and believing women whom ye did not know that ye were trampling down and on whose account a crime would have accrued to you without (your) knowledge, (Allah would have allowed you to force your way, but He held back your hands) that He may admit to His Mercy whom He will. If they had been apart, We should certainly have punished the Unbelievers among them with a grievous Punishment.
سَیَقُولُ لَکَ الْمُخَلَّفُونَ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ شَغَلَتْنَا أَمْوَالُنَا وَأَهْلُونَا فَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ۚ یَقُولُونَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِم مَّا لَیْسَ فِی قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ قُلْ فَمَن یَمْلِکُ لَکُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ شَیْئًا إِنْ أَرَادَ بِکُمْ ضَرًّا أَوْ أَرَادَ بِکُمْ نَفْعًا ۚ بَلْ کَانَ اللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِیرًا
The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to thee: "We were engaged in (looking after) our flocks and herds, and our families: do thou then ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who then has any power at all (to intervene) on your behalf with Allah, if His Will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? But Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do.
إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یُبَایِعُونَکَ إِنَّمَا یُبَایِعُونَ اللَّهَ یَدُ اللَّهِ فَوْقَ أَیْدِیهِمْ ۚ فَمَن نَّکَثَ فَإِنَّمَا یَنکُثُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ ۖ وَمَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِمَا عَاهَدَ عَلَیْهُ اللَّهَ فَسَیُؤْتِیهِ أَجْرًا عَظِیمًا
Verily those who plight their fealty to thee do no less than plight their fealty to Allah: the Hand of Allah is over their hands: then any one who violates his oath, does so to the harm of his own soul, and any one who fulfils what he has covenanted with Allah,- Allah will soon grant him a great Reward.
