Halva (literally meaning “sweet" in Arabic) is a dense confection made with several types of grain flour.

Ingredients:
2 cups wheat flour
2 cups powdered milk solids or coffee creamer (no sugar added)
3 cups granulated sugar
1 cup water
½ cup rosewater
2 tablespoons ground cardamom
½ teaspoon ground saffron
400 grams unsalted butter
½ cup vegetable oil

How to:
1. In a heavy skillet set flour on medium heat and stir for several minutes until lightly golden and fragrant. Add milk power and continue stirring until golden brown. Remove from heat and sift into a big bowl at least twice.
2. Return to the skillet and set on medium heat. Add butter and oil and stir until well incorporated, let cool slightly.
3. In a small saucepan mix together water, rosewater, cardamom, saffron and sugar and set on medium heat and let simmer until it thickens.
4. Mix together the syrup with the flour and oil mixture and stir completely until smooth. Transfer to plates (like the picture) or pour into individual servings and decorate with ground pistachios or sliced blanched almonds. Enjoy!
