Consisting of stepped travertine terrace formations, the springs are unique in Iran and exceptional across the world. It belongs to the village of Orost, Chahar Dange district in the city of Sari. It was listed as the second natural heritage site in the country in 1387 . The first is Damavand mountain range. It was also registered internationally as the second salt water spring in the world after Pamukkale, Turkey.
The name means the intensity of gassed (carbonated mineral) water. Locally it’s known as Arvest Wao or Bado. Its brand name is the springs of golden palace of Avrest.
The unique springs , 1,841 meters above sea level, are surrounded by wild barberry trees and covered in conifers in the high terrains.
The springs’ waters vary in terms of color, smell, taste and amount. The most abundant spring is salty and contains a deep pool, with a diameter of about 15 meters.
The upstream spring , located in the northwest of the first, is sour and reddish and orange colored. Around it, there are deposits of iron. The flows of sedimentary and mineral water in the down the steep area in mountains have, over the years, created hundreds of layers and tens of extremely beautiful stepped pools in red, yellow and tangerine colors with different sizes.
The layers and pools are in fact the main unique draw of the springs. Their beauties and the location of springs within the slopes of mountains with surround landscapes are quite impressive , especially in sunset.
