Hafeziyeh, is a complex including the tomb of Hafez, the well-renowned Persian poet, located in the city of Shiraz.
Its located in the north of the city, down the Koran gate, in one of the famous graveyards of Shiraz known as “Khak-e Mosalla. Covering an extensive area, its considered the main tourist attraction in the city.
65 years after the demise of Hafez, i.e. in the year 856 AH, Shamsoddin Mohammad Yaghmai, the minister of Mirza Abolghasem Baber Gurkani, the son of Mirza Baisanghar, the grandson of Shahrokh Bin Timur, the ruler of Fars, built a dome-like structure over the tomb for the first time and constructed a large pond in front of the monument filled with the water from Rokn Abad.
It was restored once in early 11th century AH in the reign of Shah Abbas from the Safavid and again 350 years after his death at the order of Nader Shah Afshar. In 1187 AH, Karim Khan Zand built a structure according to their own buildings style which included a hall with four large stone pillars in the front and placed a marble slate on his grave which still remains there.
After that a lot of restorations took place by benevolent people for a period of 160 years until in 1315 the current monument was planned and implemented with the effort of the deceased Ali Asghar Hekmat inspired by the architecture in the time of Karim Khan Zand and memorials of the French Andre Godard.
