Atash Neshani( firefighting) tower in Tabriz is among the first facilities in fire fighting arena in Iran. With the establishment of the first municipality office (Baladiyeh) of the country in Tabriz, the first fire department was opened up too. It is located at the corner of Khaghani and Bahadori streets and dates from the late Ghajar era.
The 23-meter high tower functioned as a monitoring building and a guard used to protect it at nights from the upper small room.In case of any fire in any part of the city he located it and informed the firefighters. In this room a light was always on and those who needed help at night could find the tower by its light and spot the firefighting place for help.
This way, the city of Tabriz had simple fire extinguishing facilities and water pumps as well as copper pumps which operated with hands.
These are now kept in Atash Neshani museum in Tabriz. The tower is one of its kinds which still exists.
