When the weather had just darkened, Farokh Ben Mahyar took the hand of his son. He took him from Dalan Tangi to the altar of the house and had him sit beside the large hearth at the center of the room. The fire was blazing out. The smell of perfume and frankincense had covered all over the house. He sat across from his son and said '' Ruzbeh (1)! Listen! Today is a great day for you because you are the guard of the altar of the house from now on''.
Ruzbeh said in a surprised way '' father! But fire does not need keeping''.
The father frowned '' your remarks scare me. Don't forget that we are Iranian and the follower of Zoroastrian. You should respect our religion and learn its rules well''.

Ruzbeh said '' but the father …

The father interrupted him'' listen to my remarks. From now on, your duty is to take care of the altar. That's all. Got it?

Yes, but I have thousands questions…

When you grow up, you will understand the answer of your questions.
Before he asked him another question, he left the altar. Ruzbeh took care of fire during day and saw that people worshipped black and white horses in the village. He said to himself '' how stupid these people are! Definitely there is greater power that has created this world''.

The signs of guidance:

Because the father loved his son so much, he captured Ruzbeh in house. One day he sent him out of the village for the supervision of the agricultural lands. Ruzbeh left the house happily. He was walking through the wheat field. He picked up the clusters of wheat under the light of the sun. He looked at its seeds and said to himself '' Who is God? Where is he?''
Suddenly he heard a voice from a far place. The voice was from a small white building. He went toward there. He saw that several women and men being crossed on a statue and they have hooked their hands. A man in long black clothes had stood across from them and prayed. Ruzbeh went to him and asked '' What are you doing here? Where is here? ''
The man said '' We are worshiping. Here is the church (2) ''.
Ruzbeh said '' but there is no fire here''.
The man said '' my son! We are Christian and worship the God of Christ, God that is in the sky and has created the world''.
Ruzbeh raised his eyebrows '' do you mean the single God that is in the skies? Tell me more about him. I would like to know this God. He stayed at the church until the morning and listened to the remarks of the Christian Monk (3) enthusiastically.

Adventurous journey:

Ruzbeh had heard from Christian monk that the source of the Christian Religion was in Sham. Then he picked up the pack of food and accompanied the people of the village that were walking toward Shan with a caravan. When they arrived there, he wanted the bishop (4) of the church to train him the rules of Christian Religion. The bishop wore long black shirt and stood across from people. He put his hand in the front of his chest in order to respect and turned rosary around his fingers. Then he referred to the statue of Hazrat Christ that was hung on the cross and said '' O' God of heaven! Guide us in a right path''.
Ruzbeh along with the bishop worshipped God. He saw that people brought money, food and gifts there. But he understood that the bishop owned the gifts of people instead of bestowing the gifts of people in the path of the religion of God. He became extremely sad of it and when the bishop passed a way, he revealed this secret for people. Because the people understood that the bishop was a liar man, they did not come his funeral ceremony. After the death of the bishop, Ruzbeh went to Musel (5) in order to learn the trains of the religion and introduced himself as the great monk of there. The bishop accepted Ruzbeh kindly and he serviced in the church of Musel for a while. Then he went to the city of Nasibin. Nasibin was a small city between Sham and Musel. Ruzbeh did not leave him until the time of the death of the bishop of Nasibin and learned the religion of Christian more. After the bishop died, Ruzbeh went to the cities of Antakie (6), Eskandarie and Amurie. In Amurie (7), he lived in the church. He worshiped at nights and during the day he took his cow and sheep for grazing out of the city. When cows and sheep were grazing, he sat on a stone. He put his stick under his chin and thought about the trains that he had learned from the religion of Christian. When it became night, he had the herd come back the city and went to the church. He kneed up on the foot of the statue of the Christ and recited Bible.
Days passed. Finally a day arrived and the bishop of Amurie passed away. Ruzbeh sat on his crown, took the hand of the bishop and said '' father! From whom should I learn the religion of God after you? Introduce me a good and devout bishop. The bishop said with a shivering voice '' my child! Do not be sad and do not look for a bishop after me''.
I should know the religion of God better and more.
''My child! Listen! Let me reveal a secret for you. The last prophet of God will appear soon. You should go to him and be in his service''.
''New prophet! Who is he? How can I know him
He has the sign of being a prophet between his shoulders. If you give him alms, he won't accept it, but if you give him a donation, he will become happy''.
Ruzbeh called out '' Father! Father! Tell me his name''.
But the bishop closed his eyes and passed away.

The prisoner of the palm garden:

When Asghaf passed away, Ruzbeh picked up his sheep. He went to the presence of the head of the caravan of Mecca and said '' sir! If you take me to Mecca, I am ready to give my cows and sheep to you''.
The head of caravan accepted his condition and Ruzbeh along with caravan moved toward Mecca. At night, the caravan lingered (8) near the well of water. He put his small pack beside a tree and lied down on the earth. While he was murmuring the verses of Enjil Surah, he stared at the stars. Then he fell asleep. When he woke up, he understood that the head of his caravan had sold him a Jewish Man. The head of the caravan concealed the pack of money under his clothes and sold Ruzbeh to the Jewish Man with tied hands. As he was crying, he was looking at the caravan and his cows and sheep that were getting away and was murmuring '' I can't go and see the new prophet. God! Help me so that I can go to Mecca and see the last prophet''.
But the will of God was something else. After a while, the Jewish Man sold Ruzbeh another Jewish Man so that he could take him Yasreb. Ruzbeh picked up dates during the day and at nights, he recited Enjil Surah and worshiped. One day, he got informed that a prophet had come from Mecca to Yasreb. Ruzbeh went to his master and said '' master! Do you let me see the new prophet? I should visit him face to face''.
The master became angry and said '' you are only a servant. Come back the palm garden and do your duties''.
Ruzbeh said sadly '' but the master ….
The master shook his fist at him and made him go toward the palm garden. When night arrived, he prepared a small basket full of dates and left his house secretly. He passed through the allies of Yasreb (9) and reached the white tent of the prophet.
Then he wanted to be allowed to enter. He sat across from the prophet in the lightness of the flame of the fire and put the basket of date in the front of the prophet '' here you are! This dish of date from me is a gift for you and your companions''.
The prophet smiled and thanked him. He took the dish of date and put in the front of his companions, he didn't eat them himself. Ruzbeh came back the house happily The next night he picked up a dish of date and visited the prophet '' here you are! This dish of date is a gift from me for you and your companions''.
The prophet took the dish of date kindly once more and ate a date. Ruzbeh became happy and thought that he should find the third sign. If this prophet has the third sign, he is the same prophet that Asghaf had said.

Freedom with Islam:

He visited the prophet at nights, listened to his remarks and his interest toward him became more day to day. One day, the prophet was burying one of his companions. Ruzbeh tried to see the sign of the prophet between his shoulders. The prophet that recognized his looks removed his aba (10). Seeing the sign of the prophet, he held the prophet and said '' you are the same prophet that I have come a long way to find''.
The prophet said '' I'm the last prophet of God''.
Ruzbeh said '' tell me how I can become Muslim''.
The prophet smiled and said '' you should attest that God is single and Hazrat Muhamad is the sent person of God''.
Ruzbeh attested, became Muslim and told the story of his life. The prophet kissed his forehead and named him '' Salman''. Then he went to Jewish Man and wanted him to free Salman. The Jewish man said '' Ruzbeh has to grow three hundred trees in a new palm garden and gives me forty oghie (11) gold if he wants me to free him''.
The prophet and his companions helped Ruzbeh and grew three hundred trees. The man that had just become Muslim gave the gold that he had found in a cave. The prophet gave the gold to the Jewish man and freed Salman.
Salman is from my family!
One day the prophet and his companions got together and talked. The Arabic Man entered and said hello. Then he went toward Salman and said '' stand up and let me sit down''.
Salman that had sat beside the prophet stood up and let the Arabic man sit down kindly. The prophet frowned, looked at the Arabic man and said '' you've made someone that God loves in the sky and I love on the earth stand up. You've made him stand up his own place, but whenever Gabriel is descended to me, he says the hello of God to him. Salman is from my family. Whoever pushes him away has pushed me away and whoever makes him closer himself or herself has approached me. God has ordered me to teach him science and the power of the recognition of truth from falsity''.
Hearing such remarks, the Arabic Man held down his head and apologized.

The secret of the hole and strange stone:

Abu Sofyan (12) had sworn allegiance with the heads of Jewish Tribes in order to fight with the prophet. He was a general commander, had divided his forces into three troops and moved toward Medina. The prophet got informed of the sending troops of the polytheists. He established his troop that was only seven hundred persons in the front of the gate of Medina. The prophet was worried and knew that fighting would be difficult with very few troops. Salman that saw the prophet drowning in thoughts went to him and said '' O' the messenger of God! I have a suggestion.
The prophet looked at the eyes of Salman '' Salman! Say what the problem is''.
Salman took the hands of the prophet '' O' the messenger of God! We have to come back into the city''.
The prophet said '' into the city? But the enemy can occupy the city easily''.
The eyes of Salman started shining '' O' the messenger of God! I'm an Iranian person. The Iranian forces usually make a deep trench around the city. Therefore, the enemy can't enter the city and fails.
When the prophet started thinking, Gabriel descended over the prophet and confirmed the suggestion of Salman. The prophet laughed and ordered to dig holes around the city. Then Salman along with three thousand of the people of the city started digging holes with shovel and pick. One day when Salman was picking with a lot of sweat, his pick confronted with a white and hard stone, but it did not change the stone. The prophet that was digging the land near Salman took the pick and hit the stone. Suddenly light shone from the stone toward the country of Yemen. The prophet smiled and said '' I've gained the key of the victory of Yemen''.
With the second hit, light shone toward Rome (13). The prophet stated '' I've gained the key of the victory of Sham. I swear God that I can see the crimson castles here''.
He hit the stone firmer for the third time. Light shone toward Fars. The prophet smiled and said '' I've gained the key of the victory of Fars. I swear God that I can see the castles of Haireh (14) and Madaen'' (15).
Three days later when the troop of the enemy arrived the gates of Medina, they got surprised. Seeing the holes, the heads of the troop got down their horses and Abu Sofyan called out '' this is a trick that we have never known it''.
As a consequence, the Muslims won with help of Salman.

The wooden means for tossing fire:

When the prophet conquered Mecca, Havazen Tribe fought with the prophet. The prophet along with twelve thousand persons invaded the enemy and made the forces of enemy retreat Taef (16) City. Then the Muslims surrounded there. But the walls of the city were so high that they could not enter the city. The enemy shot the companions of the prophet above the walls and they were martyred one by one. The prophet invited Hazrat Ali and his companions to consult in the tent. Everyone expressed his or her suggestion. At the end, Salman said '' if the messenger of God allows, I have an idea''.
The prophet stated '' Salman! Your remarks have always helped us on time''. In my country, catapults (17) are used for such wars''.
The prophet became satisfied of the suggestion of Salman and ordered his companions to make catapults. The Muslims tossed stone and fire into the city with catapults. The enemies that had not seen such a weapon got surprised and the Muslims won once more.
The furious drag becomes quiet.
Medina includes seven cities that are located near seven cities and is considered as the capital city of Sasanian. Sasanian that had failed in Ghadesie War escaped and went to Medina. When they saw that the Muslims were approaching Mina, they broke the wooden bridge through the river. When the troop of the Islam arrived the river of Dejleh, Sad Vaghas, the head of the troop, got down his horse seeing the broken bridge. Salman rode his horse and went to Sad and asked '' why have you got down your horse?''
Sad frowned '' don't you see Salman? Dejleh is a furious drag. The enemy has broken the bridge and nothing can be done, we have to retreat''.
Salman said '' retreat? The prophet has said that we can surround Medina in Khandaq War. Have you forgotten?''
Sad said '' However, anyone that enters this river can't survive. We have to come back''.
He came back in order to order the troop to retreat. Suddenly Salman shouted '' I swear God that we can pass the river easily as we pass the land. I swear God that is the savor of my life; people can come out of the river in groups as they enter the river in groups''.
Then he said '' in the name of God'' and entered the river with his horse. Sad followed him and passed the river. When the troop of the Islam saw that Salman and Sad passed the river safely, they entered the river one by one. They passed the river and resorted behind the gates of Medina. Then they sent several messengers there and invited the troop of Sasani to the religion of the Islam. But they did not accept it. Then the Muslims invaded them and failed them.

The head of basket maker:

After Medina was captured, Salman became the governor of Medina for twenty years. He tried to have an easy life during these years until one of people of Medina said to him '' let me make a house for you''.
Salman said kindly '' there is no need for house''.
The man came to Salman over and over again and repeated his suggestion, but Salman did not accept it. One day the man said '' I would like to make a house for you as you like. If you stand up, your head reaches the ceiling and if you stretch your legs, they reach the wall.
Salman smiled and said '' I accept it''.
The man made a house for him. One day the house of Salman fired. He picked up his Quran and sword and ran out of the house. When people saw that the house of the leader of Medina was firing, they became sad. But Salman laughed and said to people '' if you do not have a lot of properties, you can survive''.
He made basket in free time and sold them. He sold each basket three dirham. He bought the leave of date with one dirham and made baskets, one dirham for the expenses of his family and one dirham for helping poor people. He behaved the people of Medina kindly. When most people of Medina saw that Salman and other Muslims behaved others kindly, they became Muslims in groups. After the decease of the prophet, because Salman loved Hazrat Ali so much, he admired his personality and courage among Iranian People. The Iranian Muslims interested in Hazrat Ali with hearing the remarks of Salman and became his Shia.
One day a man came to Medina from Sham. He had the burden of straws on his shoulder and was very tired. Salman with plain clothes had stood on a corner of the mall and was selling basket. The stranger man went to Salman and said '' O' Persian Man! Are you ready to carry my burden? I am very tired''.
Salman smiled, shouldered the burden of man and accompanied him. During way, the people came forward one by one and said hello to Salman. The Arabic Man asked one of them in a surprised way '' who is this man?''
The man from Medina said '' don't you know?! He is Salman, the leader of Medina''.
The Arabic Man embarrassed, apologized Salman and wanted to take back the burden. But Salman did not accept it and said '' there are three features in carrying this burden: 1. I have got away vanity from myself; 2. I have helped a Muslim; 3. If I had not shouldered your burden, you might have given it to a weaker person''.

Lovely simple remarks:

Some people of Medina went to Salman. Salman had sat beside tree and was making baskets. Seeing them, he stood up and had them sit beside him kindly. One of them said '' Salman! You are Iranian like us, but you have lived with Arabic People for years and recite Quran well. But we cannot recite Quran like you and understand its meanings''.
Salman said '' the remark of God is very simple and it has been said within the understanding of human''.
The man said '' but we do not know Arabic Language and cannot understand its meaning well''.
Salman smiled and said '' the remarks of God are lovely and attractive. Let me tell you the Farsi meaning of Hamd Surah so that you can understand the remark of God better''.
In the name of God Merciful and compassionate…
You will hear the sound of his walking soon!
Salman that was about to die said to his servant '' I 'm going to die. I'm happy that I'm going to visit the prophet. The servant asked sadly '' who would you like me to call to ablute you? Salman said '' a person that abluted the prophet''.
The servant asked in a surprised way '' Amir Al-Momenin? Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) is Medina now''.
Salman closed his eyes and said softly '' when you tie my chin, you will hear his walking''.
He deceased. When the servant tied the chin of Salman, Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) entered the house of Salman.
Salman Farsi passed away after twenty one years governorship of Medina City in 33 Heijrat. His tomb is in Medina now.
