The attractive city boasts rich soil , abundant aquifers, diverse natural resources, and vegetation. Once known as “the green city” it’s a remarkable gem in the province of Fars.
It has so much to offer that it is a draw to the eager tourists all year round who come over to spend some time there and enjoy the invigorating peace and quiet.
In the beautiful city you can bathe in the rivers and creeks in summertime , watch the delightful landscapes of citrus orchards in autumn, get exhilarated with the fragrant narcissus in winter and stroll in the exceptional nature in spring.
Although it’s impossible to describe all the beauties the nature has granted its people (it also needs plenty of time ), it’s not a bad idea to introduce a little part of its amazing wonders. All the visitors are warmly welcomed in the place.
Attractions of Kazeroon

Shrine of Imamzadeh Sayyed Hossein

The main shrine in the whole city , lies 23 km from Kazeroon- Shiraz road, on the north of the historic town of Bishapur.
The village housing the shrine boasts abundant beautiful spring of Sar Ab Shir, high-rise trees ,and citrus orchards where the waters of the spring flows through. The pilgrim site is a fascinating and remarkable spot in the province. It is under reconstruction and some parts are added such as halls, amphitheater, clinic, Zaer Sara , official building, park, sports ground, printing office and green open space.

Nazar garden

Iran is a land where water matters a lot and irrigating gardens and building underground subterrenian canals have always been imprtant. In the south parts of the country it’s even more important to develop gardens and prune trees so that they not only beautify the whole place but they also produce fruits and vegetables. The barianchild of Nazar garden is Khaje Hesamoddin Afshar , the son of Khaje Hossein Ali Afshar , the ruler of Kazeroon. He dedicated money to build a canal in Kazeroon in 1117 AH, which was called Kheirat. On the documents left from Kheirat it reads: take action to build a religious school and garden , in addition to the canal.
A few years later, one of the descendants of Afshar named Khaje Ali Gholi Khan Afsahr put it into practice and built a garden known as Nazar.
On the name of the garden Dr. Bastanai Parizi says: although historians attribute the name of the gardens to those who built them , like Nazar Ali Khan Garden in Kerman, in my opinion it’s not so. They don’t belong to a special person but rather to the government and the public . They were actually considered a park where people could see and watch the beauty and use the recreation. Perhaps the original name of the garden was Nazargah ( where people could watch) and gradually shrank into Nazar.
Anyway, the delightful and pleasant Nazar garden boasts soaring orange trees and pomegranate and Bakraei ( a kind of citrus)trees as well as palm trees . It’s now a public recreational resort.
Attractions of Kazeroon

Tang-e Tikab park

On the northern slopes of mountains in Kazeroon lies a narrow pass known as Tang Tikab. In the old days water flew down the rocks inside it during spring and winter and turned it to a delightful place which was a draw for all people who came over to enjoy the natural beauty. The sound of water , rocks covered in moss and grass , and abundant vegetation would fascinate every one’s eyes. In the last couple of years the municipality in Kazeroon has attempted to develop it into a beautiful and refreshing park , making towers which offer illuminate light shows, large pools, artificial waterfall, and a traditional coffee house. It’s open all over the week and receives sightseers.

Pir Banakai

8 km on the old road of Kazeroon to Shiraz , after Pirzan , lies a simple plaster mausoleum known as Pir Banaki. In the old days, exhausted travelers on Kazeroon- Shiraz roadway stopped there to take some rest. It is in the proximity of an old cemetery with large stone poles decorated in great shapes and lines. The famous mausoleum boasts two mountainous pistachio trees over the roof and dome. One stands at the upper end of the dome ; it’s not clear where the roots are but it is green and gives fruits annually. The other grows out of its wall and is not connected to the earth. It also features a tombstone which is inside a wooden shrine.

Tang-e Chogan

Near the ruins remaining from the historic city of Bishapour , on the north of the city , between two soaring mountains , there is a narrow pass filled with lush trees , bushes and charming landscape known as Tang-e Chogan , or Tang-e Shokun according to locals. Shapur river runs through the pass and the beautiful spring of Sasan erupts in a part of it. It has long been there and supplies a part of drinking water for the residents of Kazeroon and Bushehr. A part of it is used for irrigating agricultural lands in the region.

Snow well of Abduie

The village of Abduie lies 25 km northeast of Kazeroon. It’s encircled by mountains ; one of the peaks known as Chang rises 7 km from the village. Near the peak there is a well , 2 to 3 meters wide, 10 to 12 meters deep , which is a place for storing snow . The natural well is not under the influence of sunlight; it’s a weird thing as the place around is always hit by sunlight. The snow inside remains there until late Shahrivar ( the 6th month of the Iranian year) and sometimes until the end of the year. To walk there from the village , it takes 2 hours. Before the development of fridge , the well was the main source for supplying residents’ ice. Karablai Esmail Barfi was in charge of keeping and exploiting it. The snow from it was carried on donkey and mules’ back to be sold to the places nearby. It’s quite fascinating to pay a visit to the interesting and strange well.

Cheshme Ranjan

Kuhmare Nudan , a district in the city, lies on the road from Kazeroon to Shiraz. Across from the town of Nodan ( the center of the district) on the slopes of mountains flows a roaring and pleasant spring with cool water. It pours into the spring of Pir Sabz and then to Shapur river. In wintertime and rainy seasons, it is abundant. Near the paved road lies a dirt roadway which takes you to its origin. Exhausted travelers rest beside it and enjoy the beautiful landscape from early Ordibehesht ( the second month of the Iranian year) through late Shahrivar, and sometimes to Mehr and Aban.

Parishan ( Famoor ) lake

Known as Pirshun by locals, the lake lies 15km east of the city. It stores surface waters from rainfall and basins in an area encompassing 263 square kilometers. Of which 147 square kilometers belongs to the fields and 116 square kilometers to the mountains and highlands. Its water comes from hundreds of small and large springs in Dasht-e Arjan and Famoor fields .
It contains several springs in its bed which are the origin of its water.
It is a habitat for rare species of birds and aquatics such as crane, pelican, flamingo, goose, duck, coot, etc. The only freshwater lake in the plateau of Iran measures 3.5 to 5 meters in depth. It not only features delicious freshwater fish but it also is considered an important ecosystem. It is home to 353 indigenous and non-indigenous birds . The non-indigenous and migratory birds come from Siberia, Canada and Denmark , many kilometers away. They return to their home after a season.

Bakheng fields

On the southeast of Kazeroon , near the mountains of Bekhang lies broad and fertile fields. The field on the north of the mountains is called Dashtak and the field on the south is known as Bekheng. The two fields boast broad underground waters . Gardeners and farmers have dug wells and subterranean canals to exploit. They managed to build canals named Kheirat and Bakheng . The300 –year-old canals feed the fields , agricultural lands, and orchards, and turn two mills around the city. Nowadays , the cool-water canal of Kheirat is still in use. The fields of Bakheng with beautiful natural landscapes become the best recreational resort for Kazeroon’s residents in late winter and throughout spring.

Davan village

One of the main districts in Kazeroon, it lies 2 Farsakhs (it is a historical Iranian unit of itinerant distance, the length of which varied according to terrain and speed of travel.) north of the city. Villagers are primarily gardeners and farmers. They grow products like wheat, oats, grapes, fig, pomegranate etc. Its grapes are quite famous in the southern part of the country and Fars province. Some of the hardworking villagers work on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf in Arab countries. The mountainous village includes hills and slopes in an stair-shaped land, made by the industrious villagers for cultivation. Their remarkably interesting residential houses lie one on top of the other and the yard of a house is the roof of the house below , just like the village of Masooleh .

Kalani’s cedar

The village lies 28 km northeast of Kazeroon, neighboring the villages of Dasht-e Beram and Abduie. It boasts an old and tall cedar tree , the second most famous cedar tree in the country, after the old cedar tree in Abarkuh. The elderly estimate it is over 500 years old. The tree and the beautiful nature around are the main highlights.
23 northwest of Kazeroon , near Shapur river beside the royal road which connected the capital of the Sassanid , Ctesiphon, to Persepolis and linked Persepolis to Susa , lies the historic city of Bishapour which was considered important in the Sassanid era as it was near the southern shores of the Persian Gulf. The city with a pleasant climate is housed in the entrance of a valley covered in lemon and orange trees , woodland, and springs . It boats carvings and reliefs built in the Sassanid era , which showcase the magnificence and development of the government. Among the largest cities of the era , it’s a rival to important cities across the world such as Antioch and the Byzantine. It features high towers and strong fortresses : 4 gates named “Darvaze Hormoz, Mehr, Bahram and Darvazey-e Shahr, and two fire temples known as Sasan and Gonbad Galushan. The main design of the city includes two north-south and east-west streets , which intersected in the center of the city. On 4directions of the streets , there is a government building decorated beautifully.
The historically valuable city is a must-see.

Shapur cave

At the end of Tang-e Chogan on the chest of the mountain lies a large cave, about 800meters above the surface.
Its mouth’s diameter reaches 30 meter. There is the great statue of Shapur in the entrance ‘ which shows where the name comes from. According to pprofessor Ghirshman, famous French archaeologist, the grave of Shapur lies in there. The masterpiece statue displays ancient sculpture of the Persian which has survived about 1700 years.
The only stone statue remaining from the ancient times is about 6 meters high. Its stone comes from the stones in the ceiling and floor of the cave. The skilled artists in the Sassanid era managed to create the piece after lots of effort. It was destroyed to some extent over time and probably after an earthquake . Some parts of its beauty and elegance have been removed as Iran’s army restored it in 1336 (solar calendar) without preserving the original principles.
To reach it you’ll have to follow a meandering pathway.

Miyan Kotal resort

It lies northwest of Dasht-e Arjan fields near the old road from Kazeroon to Shiraz. It’s more famous for its Persian fallow deer. It boats a mountainous and natural ambience covered in dense forests of oak trees. The heights around , especially in the north, northeast and northwest are covered in snow in cold winter. It has plenty to offer all year round . And after the construction of the old Kazeroon-Shiraz road it seems like it has become more popular.

Narcissus

The city is surrounded by narcissus fields. The fresh and pleasant narcissus flowers are highly-reputed and include 6-petalled narcissus, Shahla, and usual narcissus. Shahla is most famous for its fragrance and beauty. Tencopmassing an area of 25 hectares they mainly exist in Jare, Bolbak, Sar Mashhad, Famour , Kheht and Kenar Takhte.
The bulbous plants blossom in winter , with a height of30 to 45 cm and 3 to 8 narcissuses for each plant . They mainly bloom in 45days from early Day to mid-Bahman( the first and second months of the winter). They have many fans and are exported to the cities like Isfahan, Tehran, and the southern regions of the Persian Gulf. With the pursuit of the natural resources department in Kazeroon , the space for growing the plant has quadrupled and it is hoped that with the establishment of the cooperative enterprises of narcissus cultivators in Kazeroon , they grow in quality and quantity.
