Beside the village of Akhlamad, about 60 km from Mashhad, there is a waterfall which freezes when winter arrives and creates beautiful icicles. Here is more about it.
1. About 60 km from Mashhad near Akhlamad, there are waterfalls which freeze in winter due to the cold and create spectacular icicles.
2.Akhlamad waterfall is located in Chenaran, in the province of Razavi Khorasan, northeast of Iran.
3.Akhlamad, the natural attraction in Mashhad, is several thousand years old, lying in a valley with surrounding mountains of Binalud. At the beginning of the valley, there are beautiful flowers and plants and dense trees with abundant fruit orchards. After a short walk you’ll come across the first waterfall, 23 meters high. One kilometer from it there is the main waterfall of Akhlamad ,about 40 meters high. The third and the fourth ones are on the top.
4. The valley has rocky walls about 200 to 300 meters which are among the largest rocks in Iran and are used in rock climbing sport. Its famous walls are known as “ Divare Sefid, Allaho akbar, Oghab etc.
5. The valley has a couple of waterfalls four of which are permanent and the rest are seasonal. The first waterfall has a mild sound which turns into a roar when water passes through rocks.
6. The main waterfall of Akhalmad runs in the end of the valley. Behind it there is a narrow river, 2km long ,which flows through flat and high mountains. : For even more beautiful sights, go on to the third one.
Sharp, pointed icicles about to fall
7. The fourth waterfall is on top of the third. At the end of the valley, mountains of Manije and Farab meet and lead off to the river of Akhlamad.8. Dense trees and wild plants grow beside the waterfall. Every year a large number of people from Mashhad and surrounding cities come over to visit the nature and beautiful waterfall of the village of Akhlamad.
9. It has a delicate climate despite its mountains and waterfalls, no signs of severe heat in summer and harsh cold in winter. However, temperatures vary. For example, the middle of the village is 5ºC different from Mashhad, and the falls are of 15ºC different.
10. Among other tourist attractions of Akhalmad is Akhalmad dam. To reach it, you should move 3 km from Dahane towards Akhalmad. It lies in a narrow valley. It’s known as Baysunghur Mirza and was built with lime and mortar in the time of the Prince Ghiyasuddin Baysunghur of the Timurid. Its length measures 252.14 meters but in the middle it is 24 meters long and about 12 meters high.
