Most Iranians would think the village of Kandovan , one of the three rocky villages throughout the world, is located somewhere near the tunnel of Kandovan but it’s not. This exceptional and amazing village is, in fact, located in East Azerbaijan province, in Tabriz.
Professor David Rohl, a famous English archeologist, believes that it’s the place where the fall of Adam took place and perhaps the Garden of Eden lies there. However, there is no evidence to prove his claim.
Seven hundred years ago, when the Mongols attacked Iran, people sheltered in the rocky mountainous region.
It boasts a unique and outstanding architecture which amazes visitors and attracts them every year. The conical 2- or 3-storey houses are a prime attraction. According to experts, its architecture says a lot about the first settlements and primitive human societies in ancient times.
Historians believe that in the 7th century people settled in the fields near the current village to avoid the attack of the Mongols. After a while they started digging into the rocks, built houses, and settled there.
Over the hills lie hundreds of dogged barns, storehouses, and small rooms. The village also boasts a mineral spa which is useful for kidney disease , according to locals.
Located in the rural district of Sahand , the central district of the city of Osku, it is among the three wonderful villages in the world. If you ever visit there , don’t forget its main souvenir , honey.
There is a hotel in the beautiful village to accommodate visitors. The place is so fascinating in terms of geology and anthropology that you will never want to leave even after a whole week.
To reach it:
To travel there you should head from Tabriz to Osku on the slopes of Sahand. Osku lies southeast of Tabriz.
