If you are among Noruz travelers to the north, you might have probably passed Chalus or stayed there for at least one day. The road to Chalus, as the most touristic one in the country, is the world’s fourth most beautiful road and is considered one of the most spectacular resorts across the country thanks to its unique nature.
If you ever traveled to Chalus , you are recommended to take time to see its natural highlights and try to have a short yet different trip to the region ever. It receives you with its waterfalls, forests and lakes plus its fascinating historic sites.

Akapel waterfall is located in the mountainous forests of Sardi Chal in Kalar Dasht and neighbors the summer quarters in Kalar Dahst and the lovely lake of Valesht. It can make a memorable one day trip.

Savasare waterfall

The 100-meter high waterfall is situated in a region which is a district in Baladeh.
It lies in mountainous woodland with wonderful and pristine landscapes. The abundant waterfall creates a unique image when it falls.
Harijan waterfall overlooks a village , which carries the same name, near the col of Hezar Cham in Tehran-Chalus road.
With a height of over 9 meters , the abundant waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Alborz mountain range. It features a high forest ambience with landscapes of mountains , valleys and forests . It pours down from the top of a rock mountain and includes various waterfalls on its path.

Forest parks in Chalus

Forest park of Fiyen lies 7 km on the Chalus- Tehran road. The river of Chalus flows beside the road. Along it there is a campground with cottages and heaps of rooms built for travelers.
The forest park of Namak Abrud , encompassing an area pf over 200 hectares , is filled with lush trees including different species of box-trees , over 700 years old .
The park with its intact and wild nature has emerged as one of the most beautiful forest parks in the globe, where ecological systems are preserved.

Chairlift of Namak Abrud

The chairlift is considered one of the main touristic parts in Namak Abrud, located in the southeast of Namak Abrud township, where you get to do mountain climbing to the lovely peak of Medobon. On top of the peak , it’s 10 degrees Celsius colder than the below areas. There are places for refreshments along the way . It involves 42cabins. With a speed of 3 meters per second , it takes less than 12 minutes a 2,100 meter-path.

Chalus lakes

Daryuk dam: the lake encompasses an area of about 1 hectare. It is situated opposite the valley of Vali Abad-e Hezar Cham on the slope of Dal Kamar mountain.
The freshwater lake , with a depth of about 5 meters, is encircled by the pastures and meadows. It is therefore the habitat for wild indigenous birds . If you ever get to travel in winter , you’ll see migratory ducklings and geese wobbling around .
The freshwater lake of Valesht is located in the southwest of Chalus and northeast of Kalar Dahst within a deep valley.
It covers an area of about 15 hectares and its average depth measures 20 meters.
Valesht is among the lakes located near the mountainous region of Takht-e Soleyman of Alam Kuh. It lies in a large hell surrounded by the low hills of Kalameh and therefore it’s not visible. To access, you should move from Marzan Abad , the west of Chalus road.
If you ever visit there, you can see Kandochal wetland in the Fiyen dense forests. It covers an area of one hectare with a depth of about 4 to 5 meters. Its freshwater is supplied by the nearby springs .
You can also pay a visit to Chay Khoran palace , in the south of Moallem square in Chalus , in a region known as palace space. The monument belongs to the first Pahlavi era. Encompassing an area of approximately 4,000 square meters , the one-story building includes a basement. It was used as a temporary resting place and is extremely simple and without luxury and decorations , which was the main characteristic of the era. The major materials include stone and bricks and it is visibly influenced by the European architecture.
The holy mausoleum of Sayyed Mohammad lies in the village of Ravat , on the south side of Chalus bypass.
The octagonal landmark contains an octagonal dome on the top.
The caravansary of Sar-e Ghole Kandovan ( on top of the peak), which is destroyed to a great extent, is located in the south end of Mazandaran and on top of Kandovan peak. The rectangular monument measures 14 by 16 meters and contains a dome-like ceiling.
The stone caravansary of Pay-e Ghole Kandovan ( at the foothill of the peak) is also another one in the mountainous area of Chalus , located 200 meters north of Kandovan tunnel . The rectangular building measures 90 by 22 meters , along north-south direction .It consists of 2 lines of stone arches ;nowadays only 5 arches are remaining in the east part of the caravansary.
