On the edge of the charming shores of Aras River in the heart of soaring mountains of East Azerbaijan , the village of Oushtobin, on a stepped stretch of land, shines just like a green emerald under the turquoise clear and clean sky.
The ancient village has 3 hamlets namely Haras, Siyavoshan, and Jaefar Abad.
It boasts precious historical works such as several inscriptions in Sols, an Arabic style of calligraphy, dating from the time of Shah Tahmasp Safavi, an old cemetery, and marble inscriptions from the 9th and 10th centuries.
Numbered 2,692, it was listed as a national site on Khordad 17, 1379, solar calendar. The gained documents of the inscriptions show that they belong to 843 and 976 AH but the architecture in some seems like they date from the Partians.
It also features high-quality fruits of the garden and melon grounds and offers plenty of fruits like pomegranates, figs, walnuts, pears, sour cherries, grapes, sumac, dogberry, medlar, and berries. But unfortunately as a result of inadequate refrigerating rooms many are ruined before transporting to other cities.
The village highlights striking architecture in which the yard of each house is the roof of the house on top. On every corner you can see silk producing workshops. Women in the village would give you a warm welcome with their delicious home-made Lavash, a kind of local bread.
Oushtobin has a potential to turn to a great tourist hub.
On its name, some researchers say that since it contains 3 hamlets next to each other it was called Oush Tubin , literally 3 villages.
I don't reject this idea but another account by Dr. Hussein Mohammadzadeh Sedigh, the editor of the Turkish divan of Hakim Nabati, is also noteworthy. A summary of his opinion goes here:
He writes, Oushtouboon is composed of 3 parts; Oush, Toub, Oun, Oush or Ouch in Ahar and surrounding areas means three, Toub means a tribe or ethnic group or a crowd of people, Yin or Oun is seen in most names of geographical places in Azerbaijan and Iran, so totally it means a place where 3 ethnic groups live. At least beside Turks of Taat and Armenia in the village, these 3 groups resided there right before Hakim Nabati but later on Turki dominated the area and their dialect and customs were influenced by it. Or they might have migrated from there.
