Throughout the history of Iran, which is full of invasion and revolution and failure and victory, art has been its biggest feature and its best gift to other nations.
What are really distinctive characteristics of Iranian art? Iranian art has close link with human life, and is full of man's experiences. It always it seeks heavenly force and is in dream of being in relation to it. In order to soften its rage, turn to admiration and worship of it, and in this way creates beauty and art.
Importance of Iranian art
Although in ancient world art had bee an ordinary task, for Iranians it had a top position. Iranian kings' support for art caused beauty to have supreme position always in every task. Mystic poets believed that beauty (face) is where God can appear, and this was what many artists thought so.
Art was bond to life, and so various aspects of art were bond to each other. In ancient world different fields of art were not separate from each other, but each art became derived from the other one. Arts were intertwined, and craft and economy were not separate from literature and philosophy.
Most subjects of painting and poetry were the same, and painter and poet each inspired points of their revelations of their minds to each other. All the lovers of art tried in a unique task. They were uninvolved in their fame such that their humility prevented them even to sign their works. This is why few masterpieces in eg painting have signature. Art of Iran was unknown, but made so progress in openness, honesty and credibility. This reality made hand of artist as a mean to appear beauty and glory of knowledge. And in this manner divine creative spirit gave a particle of its existence to the artist for a moment causing creation of a new art. That was an art which the artist believed that it was not belong to this world; a divine art.
Another aspect of Iranian art is that it is always based on decoration. An artist which is creating his/her work through a sacred and mystical view prevents from naturalism, and tries to embody a supernatural reality that he/she realizes. Therefore he/she proceeds to symbolism and abstraction. In this way designs are in fact showing religious habits or depth of a worldview, and each sign is a code for a sacred act, and so has deepest effect. This is why Iranian art is accompanied with the element of fine working, repetition, and decoration. We can say that the perfection of Iranian art is in absolute decoration.
Importance of Iranian art
Such a view never left the mind of Iranian artist, and even after gravitation of Iranians toward Islam was able to reconcile itself with the unity views and was progressed. Iranian artists not only adhered to ancient customs, but also complete them and innovate subtle things. This is what caused art of Islamic Iran to reach its glory. Iranian art has been called as art of absolute figure. This kind of art is an independent art just as music and architecture are so. We can often construe the most important examples of Iranian decorative art as "visible music", because the influence of the details of this art is like the influence of the details of music.
