These days when it’s cool and feels like spring , you’d better plan for a trip to the south of the country, to Fars province to be exact, before the new year arrives.
The destination is not Fars’s Citrus uranium city; but rather a village.
Our option for village wanderers is Tange Barragh , a village in Sade in the province of Fars. You should travel 80 km southwest of Eghlid to reach it. The village , which has a weird name, extends to the city of Abadeh from north , to the cities of Marv Dasht and Sepidan from south, to the city of Khorram Bid from east and to the lands of Kohgiluye and Boyer Ahmad from west.

But why go to Tang-e Baragh?

It features beautiful natural landscapes and lies in exceptional scenery. You’ll get to see waterfall, canyon, cavern and fields in one place only. And that’s why it has long been among the most-visited tourist attractions in Fars. Nomads used the summer place to reach Oghlid two centuries ago. You’ll definitely witness relics around .The most interesting example is an inscription in Pahlavi which is great age. It also boasts a natural cave and a lake named Mulla Sadra.
It is about 20 km from the city of Sadeh and 190 km from Shiraz. So if you are planning for a few day’s journey , it’s not worth to travel 200 km towards Shiraz and be pressed for time and miss the visit. Unlike in Shiraz , it’s mild in spring and summer and quite cold in autumn and winter. Since it is housed in a mountainous region , it’s more pleasant than the low-lying areas in Fars. You’ll get to see both green lush woodlands , pastures and gardens and high mountains.

Villagers speak in Lori and Azeri and are Ja’fari Shia Muslims. They primarily earn their money through farming, agricultural activities and making handicrafts.

What to buy?

The main products include rice, wheat, beans, apple, yogurt, butter, Doogh (a savory yogurt-based beverage popular in Iran) and Kaskh ( a dairy product used in Iranian cuisine). Among the handicrafts are hand-woven rugs, Gelim (short-napped coarse carpet) which are great options for souvenirs. You can also take the dried apricots home.

Village’s historical texture

It lies on a mild slope. One-storey houses, surrounded by pastures and gardens, are built with stone, mud and wood. Of course, nowadays they are built with bricks , cement, and iron. But you can barely find two-storey houses throughout the village.
In fact, their architecture is affected by its peoples’ life style and occupations. Inside houses are oven chambers, hay loft, barn and trees.

Village’s highlights

Once you ever travel there, don’t miss a beautiful valley with the same name(Tang-e Barragh) on its north. There, you can witness one spectacular waterfall of Margun , opposite the village, flowing down high rocks. There is also a lovely calcareous cave nearby. The drops of rain penetrate inside it through the ceilings and hit the floor creating beautiful sounds.
