Remarks by Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi (blessings on him)

On the ceremony of the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on 12/13/80 a group of students of Islamic Azad University of Ahvaz met with Grand Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi. He spoke with them about the value of the Islamic system and compare it with the pre- revolutionary opposition to the arrogant countries, and the need for vigilance and the duty to protect it, particularly he presented valuable points to young people. Establishment of Islamic power, a grace without precedent:

During this period, there are numerous occasions that we can speak about each of them. In my point of view, the establishment of an "Islamic power system," which is headed by the Deputy Imam (peace be upon him), is a favor that God has presented to us, Iranians. There is no such event in the history of Iran and that is establishment of powerful Islamic system. All components of the system must gain their legitimacy from it. Under such circumstances, we do not know our history. Shiite government was established in Iran from the time of Abbasid caliphs, but there have been the scattered governments who considered them as "Shia" have just a king as the head of the Shiite government or some people in the government were interested in Shies and Islamic law; But the central power and universal rule was not formally on the basis of religion. In the era of our history we do not know such a government and it is a huge blessing, so we ought to ponder the significance of this blessing.
When a man understands that favor that he sees the opposite. When it is cold, he does not say a glass of cold water is good, he does not understanding it because it is cold and he does not want cold water. Or if he gets ill, he will then realizes what a valuable gift he has lost!
Thank God you live under Islamic rule and probably all or most of you have been born in the same period. You have not seen the previous periods and what God has blessed on us. Ask those who live in that period. These are two very important points that whatever we think about them is little.
In short, I would say: Today you pray, worship, learn and support religious orders in an honor, but it was a time when if someone did theses, the others made fun of his religion and they called him with sarcasms. if he wanted to pray at noon in the university, he did not dare to do it, as others laughed and mocked him; They said: do you still pray? Who are you! A villager you are! And other things that neither we have time to say nor you are embellished to hear. However, it was this kind of period.
On the other hand, not only in Iran there was not hope to have Islam as a rule for the country and the people live by the rules of "religion", but also in other Islamic countries, people could not see it too.

Iranian Muslim people's sacrifices, historical legendary results:

But when such a system is established and the revolution triumphed in Iran, Muslim countries found self-reliance and thought they could have power too; The sense of dignity and greatness, and they were the models of Iran. The main reason for opposition to America and other arrogant countries and their system was the same fear that if this system took root and spread in Iran, the other Muslim countries would have the desire of revolution and so the interests of the West, utterly, would be endangered. They want a system which bring the term of stalemate and they said that Islam cannot govern the country, so that make others not think about the desire of revolution. Well, this blessing was upon us, and you have seen and heard of flowers that were raised in the shadow of this system; What were the sacrifices, the sacrifices were: During the Revolution, after the revolution, during the holy war; Things that happened in the history of our country, has happened nowhere else; our history has more or less a fabulous effects.
As an example, I can tell you a miner case that when I was a religion student, I was familiar with the history of Islam a little. A story was so amazing for me and this dream seemed to me possible and that such a thing could be happened! And it was Malaika Laundry Hanzaleh story. That was the story of Uhud. The place of the battle of Uhud was right in the gateway city of Medina and it was a part of the city. It was adjacent to the city's arena and it was not far from it. When the war began, the Muslims arrived on the scene and made barricades. A young man named Hanzale who was a young stripling and the evidence showed that he has been newly independent; the gym was about twenty years old. He was newly married. At his wedding night, a number of Muslims had gone to fight in the front line. He stayed the night in the city, as was the custom that the bride and groom must meet each other at that night. In the morning, he rushed to the battlefield of Uhud, but he did not baptize. At the same time the enemies entered the arena and he was killed. After his testimony, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) said: I see the angels of heaven his body, because of this, he was named "baptized by angles" or "qasilol Malaika".
It was strange to me that a young man at the time of his youth, and in the wedding night after which he still had not baptized, came into the battlefield. He should wait at least two hours; For example, he should eat breakfast, and prepare himself, then he went to the battle. What was this passion? He still had not baptized, but went to the battlefield and was a martyr! For me, it was a myth that could it be happen that someone be so eager to jihad and martyrdom, and wanted to go to the battle in the wedding night?
During that time, this story was always in my mind that how Muslims were devoted to Islam! How they were so selfless! For the duty of jihad, the pleasures of the world were not valuable for them! Then came the war of Iran and those who were at this time. Our country found youths that Qasilol Malaika was no one comparing to them. If we have one person in the history of Islam by the name of al- Malaika Hanzaleh, during the war of Iran, there were hundreds of thousands of young people who were better than him. In terms of sacrifice and martyrdom, There are strange stories that each of them is a lesson for our life, and this is thanks to the revolution and to the bless soul of Imam Khomeini, the spirit of sacrifice and martyrdom were changed and people now are ready for anything and they love to go into the battle.

Youths of Islamic country; comparing the holy war status and the period after it:

You may have heard a lot of these cases. It is good to read stories of martyrdom and sacrifice when you get a chance to read them. This was an opportunity for genuine talent to be known in the youth and they grow quickly. An example is Hussein Fahmide. About him, Imam (Khomeini) said: "Our leader is this thirteen- year- old teenager ..." 1 if the revolution had not occurred, these events had not occurred, where do you think they were? The young man who testified in the field and other fields, in the field of science, research! Thanks to God many talents flourished during this period, including the power of being sacrificed and be in jihad, if the revolution had not occurred, where were they? These were the same boys that you see today; Young people who are addicted to drug and substances. But they are on the streets and look for having abnormal behaviors and things that unfortunately little concerns can be seen for them in our today country, this is due to the changed cultural conditions, the cultural environment has changed, rather than having a kind of education to grow them, we find this kind of education declines.
The comparison between the two is: on the one hand, the greatness of this gift is shown to us, it is gift from the leaderships of the revolution, Imam (Khomeini) and it is the excitement and enthusiasm that the people who were so valuable and who created a miracle! And on the one hand, the situation of young people like today's one! Of course these things are rare; however, in every nation and revolution you see some of the young people reach the peak of moral and spiritual success and another group fall in the valley and fail. These ascending and descending which is like a curve could be seen more or less in all societies.

Rise and fall of societies:

However, weather this theory is scientifically correct or not, we are not sure but instead more or less, the historical experience shows that in all of these, there is a rise and after that a fall in spiritual issues.
In the Quran, we have something like this in Sura Hadid which says this that the translation of the verse is this: Is it not time that the hearts of the believers be humble, soft, and in the remembrance of God their hearts be broken down, be humble and be like the ancients people (Nasar in the book of the Jews) long time passed and their hearts hardened (Fqst hearts) and hardened, and many of them incline debauchery. However learn from the past. This implies that the prophets had led them and their spiritual grew, but over time this changed. Interpretation of this from Quran is that (Ftal Al Alamd), when long time passed, their hearts hardened. This is the same for us, if a curve is drawn, at first it grew and then it reach to the summit but after a long time, it slowly degenerates back again.

The necessity of learning from history:

of course it does not mean to impose on the man, it is just teaching. It is good to learn from past and to think about what they have done and what has happened for them. The former people have suffered from their deviations, so they are lessons for us to improve our lives. According to the narratives of multiple documents quoted by Sunnis and Shiites, the prophet (Mohammad, peace be upon him) has said: what happened for Bani Israel will happen for you too. This means that any event in the history and for Israel will happen to us too. Be careful about their consequences.
Of course they are not compulsory, they are for us just to learn from past. That when God gives blessings to some of us, we appreciate it first, it is like a person who has been ill recently, so after it, and he knows the value of good health. When we are sick for a while, we avoid some things and endure pain and discomfort or he tries to avoid being ill again. He cares about having healthy food, or he is careful to brush his teeth to avoid them from being infected. But after a while he forgot, and the taste of health is forgotten and gradually he got used to it, and says: It does not matter if I do not brush tonight ... so after a while the same thing is repeated.
On social issues, there is something of the same kind. Those who had difficulties before the revolution, knew the revolution's early gifts, and tried to maintain this system to avoid everything will be come back. People sacrificed their lives as you have read and heard. when the revolution had not won and the oil company was on strike, oil was not in the cold winter and people have to stand in long queues; Oil was rationed, but some youth gave their oil to the poor people, and old ladies and people with disabilities; it was cold but they gave their gallon of oil to the weak neighbors as if they do not need it. How beautiful was the scene! A container of oil is prices, but tolerance of cold and giving it to poor neighbor is very nice!

Ascending values and culture in our country:

There was this scene. In early time of revolution, people knew the value of this revolution, they were careful observance of religious rules so much that I just do not know how I tell you. If there was an illusion that someone will do anomalous behavior in the street, eyes were staring at him so he was embarrassed. Men could not talk or laugh even with their sister in the street as if people have the illusion that the woman is not his sister! Values in society were so important that they try to preserve their appearances and protect them and do not violate the religious values. If someone wanted to go somewhere with his wife in the street they did not talk to each other or they talked politely, rather than they laugh and joke together in the street. These were not seen at all. This was a sign that people know how good this revolution is. So they were careful about the values. But gradually, just like a person who gets healthy and forgets illness and begins to eat bad foods, it should be reminded again to him that what a blessing is being healthy. So people will gradually start to forget the values and achievements of the revolution; those who were in the wartime black market, begin importing smuggled goods and the spirituality is exploited.
However, there are many examples. They are for each one according to his own life. When the borders are broken down this happens that by the budgets of the families of the martyrs who in fact are the country's main heirs and the budget belongs to these people, they provide awards by the name of the Islamic State and give them to whom have corrupted past and during the past regime and now, after the revolution, they have come back from abroad or home and engaged in immoral things. They are respected and there are celebrations for them.

Our task in the era of declining values:

This is a downside which unfortunately has begun in terms of values and culture. we should not contamination if we ourselves do not want that this continues, be careful with it; Do not say "It is OK, we take care of it!", "if they went, we should not go; do not say it is a friendly meeting! "," if All did it, we should not do it; do not say that it is bad if we do not go there, to that party or ceremony, they want us to go. If we do not go, they backbite us! "This is the beginning. Certainly when the door was opened to some things and some borders are moved, evil will bring the man down in front of sin; At first, the small sins and then the big sins, we are pulled toward them! Do not think that we do not pollute, second try will happen and they cause derivations. It is a slip field especially for the young, rather than the old ones. But do not think if a period of forty or fifty years of their lives is spent on health, they do not begin sinful doings. But if they are accustomed to a healthy life of forty or fifty years, they do not change their direction soon. But the young's life is not constant, and it constantly fluctuates; it is possible to slip more than old ones. We must first take care of ourselves. Both in action and in speech, order, we should note that as the Quran says: in the verse Asr: 3 to be faithful to each order. A team must not only apparently work with each other should unite with each other, they should have "Tavasy" with each other that is the parties advise each other. The second point is that: help those who are our friend to not be derived, we should be careful. The third is that: help those who are derived.
On the other hand, we should try to provide social conditions so that people can take advantage of the situation and some could not take steps against Islamic values. Quran tells the whole story of the past and says that the suffering and misery were with them (shoara: 8): Most of them did not believe in God, and did not follow the religious orders. This will mean that you are allowed to become like us; this means that you be not like them.

The task of today generation:

By all of these things I want to tell you that that is a huge, huge task. However, the task is incumbent upon the younger generation more. It is true that there is the downside and the upside in all societies; it is a historic tradition which remains, however, this does not mean that we do things as a result of it, we should take advantage of the revolution's results. In the earl time after revolution, students study more, but when there are lots of factors which invite him to be sinful, there would be little hope. This is a warning. We should protect Islamic and revolution values for which there were lots of sufferings and fears! We should follow those who took us these values. Be careful. we should not be infected by our enemies.
Especially it is the younger generation's task in the present era. When they are young, they should keep their healthy mind and do not pollute it with the environment. They can study better, but when there are a variety of factors that naturally invite them to abnormal events and opportunities, they should increase their motivation. Students pay less and reducing their academic progress.
As well as in the political field, we became independent in many areas. We have found our self-reliance. We were the people whom had no respect in previous regime, the world did not count on us, we were the wallet of America, and whatever he wanted, and we gave him. But after the revolution, our country was strengthen.
