Darfak is undoubtedly among the most beautiful mountains in Iran and major habitats for plants and animals.
Darfak peak is the highest in Gillan province. It's a dormant volcano between two cities of Rudbar and Siahkal over the regions of Deilaman, Ammarlu and Khatgam.
It is said that the earthquake in 1369 destroyed parts of this peak and gradually it eroded increasingly each year. The locals believed that the mysteries of Gil and Deilam ethnic groups over the years are hidden inside the caves and dense forests.
The height of the peak measures 2,700 m. It stretches from south to Manjil mountains, from east to great mountains of Takht-e-Soleiman and extends to the She Hezar valley in Tonekabon.
It's located in the city of Rudbar.
An icy cave , 100 m long, is also located in the region which supplies drinking eater. It's placed on the peak and the nomads have built houses with stones and ice, collected as a result of snow in winter which turns to glacier, is taken out of the cave. They use it for their herds.
Of course the locals say that it holds the snow during the whole year and is therefore the source of supplying water for Shepard's. Its mouth is very narrow and it is impossible to enter without ice climbing so don't struggle to get in.
The best time to go is the beautiful forests of Darfak especially in autumn. You can then be sunk in the autumn leaves and take a walk inside and be amazed by the beauty and spend the best memory ever.
Pitching tents in the forests, spending the night with the sounds of sheep and dogs barks , visiting the kind local shepards and building the small fire will be a part of your most beautiful trips. Intense fog and clouds which reach your feet in heights will make your travel even more dreamy.
To go there from Tehran you should take Ghazvin-Rasht highway and after passing Rudbar turn right in a neighborhood known as Rostam Abad , opposite the toll-house .
After Tonekabon and Pol-e-Sefid bridge move towards the village of Shir Kuh. After Leaving behind Shir Kuh you'll enter the lovely forests of Darfak where there are trees as far as eyes could see.
