There is no doubt that one of the primary slogans of the movement of Imam Khomeini (RA) was defending the oppressed people which the issue of Palestine and supporting the Palestinians and hostility to the Zionist regime and its aggression, has been at the top of this target, since the Islamic Revolution was a noble gesture, which was based on Islamic beliefs of people. This was not an issue which be a secret from the beginning, and the Zionists even before the year 1342 were also well aware of this and were aware of Israel's position for the Iranian people.
General Mayramyt, who was appointed as head of Israeli military intelligence in 1340 in replace of Herzog, in May 1341 came to Tehran and met military officials and Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister and Minister of Agriculture.
On his return to Israel in a report advised Ben Gurion and Golda Meir to try to establish contacts with Iran out of the scope of Hakemeh Council.
He noted that Israel is unpopular among the Iranian people, and it should think about the future.
Also in some Israeli newspapers some texts were published about the dire consequences in the relations between Iran and Israel and the placement of these officials in the Iranian public opinion.
In a report that representatives of Iran in Tel Aviv in 1352wrote for the Foreign Ministry, quoted by the Maariv newspaper: " Figaro's te reporter Paris edition in Tehran reports that in different alternatives of Iranian public opinion wrath is increasing about the cooperation between Israel and Iran in various fields, and this may bring serious consequences in the near future. The mentioned reporter reports about protests and expressing opposition to the rapprochement between Iran and Israel, as well as chants of "King is a Jew" or forging surname of Pahlavi to "Papaluy"... "
With the rise of the popular movement, anti-Zionism and denouncing the Shah's relations with Israel constituted one aspect of popular struggle.
Revolutionaries always blamed relations of the king and usurper Zionists, and people were invited to help the Palestinian people.
Activities and speeches of Ayatollah Morteza Motahari the martyr, Ayatollah Saeedi, and others are considerable in this regard. Hojatoleslam Hashemi Rafsanjani was once imprisoned for translating a book about Palestine.
Organizations that had adopted the armed struggle against the regime targeted agency of Israel's office and other Israeli interests in Iran, and in fact, the fight against Zionism and Israel was the common denominator of all the fighters.
Although Imam addressed Muslims in his speeches regarding the Palestinian proposition and asked them to support the Palestinian people and their rights, but he also supported the Palestine Liberation Organization as long as they stranded in front of Israel, and Yasser Arafat also tried to deepen his relationship with the revolutionaries.
Following the martyrdom of Haj Agha Mustafa Khomeini, Yasser Arafat, PLO Chairman, sent a message of condolence to Imam Khomeini, and Imam Khomeini (RA) also responded to his message in a telegram.
The intensification of the Islamic Revolution threatened present equations in region and calculations of Americans; Americans, who saw to make peace with Sadat coming to power in Egypt, did their best to achieve it, and as the Islamic Revolution got closer to victory and the fall of the Shah was more likely, America's efforts became more. Maariv newspaper wrote in an article in Persian date 19 Shahrivar 1357: "there is a connection between the efforts exerted by America to solve the Middle East crisis and Iran's efforts to topple the monarchy used by radical Islamic elements.
If really the Shah of Iran is overthrown of kingdom, and an Islamic regime be replaced instead, there is no exaggeration about the political and strategic disaster imposing to the entire free world and especially America. If God forbid such an event occurs, the vital interests of the State of Israel will be hurt in the near and distant future ... Iran is one of the cornerstones of America's influence in the Middle East, and it is a main circuit of Tehran and Cairo and Riyadh; hence President Sadat's concerns will be justified."
It was because of these concerns that the Israelis had great sensitivity to events in Iran and were following events with great precision.
General Gazyt, who had traveled to America in October 1357, said in the society with 25 members of Congress of America that he is certain that Israeli intelligence organizations have been ahead of America's of intelligence agencies a few weeks more in terms of understanding and identification of ignored events of Iran. Also the Israelis criticized the Americans because sometimes they recommended the king to respect human rights and make reconciliation with the opposition.
An Israeli newspaper referring to the tenacity and antagonism of Imam Khomeini (RA) wrote that "based on the idea of secular leaders against the Iranian regime, Ayatollah Khomeini is not aware of the reality of developments in Iran, while Iran's leaders of moderate movements know the vacuum created by the transformation of the monarchy which lead to the increasingly severe effects, therefore, they think of a period of gradual transition." The Islamic Revolution had a direct impact on the behavior of America's foreign policy in the Middle East, and in fact, America was in a passive position and the fear that after Iran it will be Saudi Arabia's turn creates a dark future for America's standing in the region and the future of oil.
This had caused the Americans to increase pressure on the Israelis to seek a solution to the problem of the Palestinians so that Palestinian workers in Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries, who were the major factor of riots, and will return to their homeland so that one of the causes of instability in the area be removed.
Americans also insisted that Washington talks end successfully to form a new power center in the Middle East by Egypt and Israel that preserves America's interests.
Israeli delegation added speed at the talks of Washington because of events in Iran and fear of cutting off oil exports and insisted that Egypt be obliged to sell Sinai's oil to Israel. By signing Camp David treaty and Ziafat Sadat a prominent student protests in Tehran was formed against compromise of Sadat with Israel.
Israelis were trying to create a fake atmosphere to describe the situation of Jews in Iran after the Shah's rule in a terrible way, and despite the fact that revolution's leaders announced that they would not be harmful to minorities, they were looking to create inflammation atmosphere and lack of confidence among the Jews. Newspaper "Al Hemyshmar" wrote in Persian date Aban 1357: "The status of Iranian Jews relies on achievement of the government of radical Muslims, because their treatment with minorities is not satisfactory ... Jews, who are big fans of the Pahlavi kings due to their consistent human behavior with the Jewish minority, have fear of the future". In addition of Iranian Jews, at the beginning of 1357, more than 1,500 Israeli families lived in Iran that since October 15 of the same year, Israeli planes started to evacuate them. Despite the double attack on the office of the airline AlAL, Israeli aircrafts continued their regular flights to Iran so to evacuate more and more citizens of Israel. The Israeli embassy's staff also continued to work in spite of the dangers that threatened them. Israel refused to shut down his base in Iran for two reasons. One is that it was not clear if Joseph Harmlyn, the Israeli ambassador, and his staff were summoned to their country, would be again allowed to return to Iran, and the other reason was it that despite the emigration of a number of the Iranian Jews, still 50 thousand Jews remained in Iran.
December 1357 coincided with the month of Muharram.
Officials of Shah's regime as well as Israelis and Americans strongly feared of the month of Muharram and threats against the King in this month, and they feared the king will be dismissed of the government in the month.
Iranian representative in Tel Aviv wrote in a report on the eve of Muharram: "According to American sources, if the King passes Moharram healthfully, hope of the success of holiness will be more than fifty percent." But the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had stressed that no danger threatens the Shah's regime by assessing the situation of Iran .President of America, Carter after realizing mistake of CIA analyzes, blamed the organization in a highly critical tone for failing to evaluate the events in Iran properly.
Israeli intelligence services also expressed that CIA is wrong in their understanding of the situation in Iran. Elsewhere, Zionists expressed surprise about the amazing influence and control of the leaders of the revolution over the people; as Maariv newspaper writes about the situation in Iran and the parade of Tasoa in its editorial dated 09/20/1357: "Tehran's yesterday peaceful protests show that the opposition leaders have a strange rule over the protesters that would force them to rely only on anti-monarchy slogans and attempting to avoid acts of violence ... certainly the fact is not hidden from the Shah and his supporters that the one who yesterday gave instructions to maintain order, could tomorrow give contrary orders...". However, fears of America and the Carter of deteriorating situation in Iran led to sending "Vance" to the Middle East again to pressure Israel and force him to score more points.
Haaretz newspaper wrote in this regard: "The Americans are experiencing confusion and frustration for the current problems of Iran; they do not think the king is able to control the situation and opponents cannot provide a viable alternative."
By the fall of Pahlavi regime, Israel met disadvantages most of others, as Iran was considered as a strong alliance for him and was a perfect source for issuance of raw materials including oil to Israel; it was also a great market for Israeli services and products, and in addition to all, Islamic republic of Iran's policy that approves supporting Palestinian nation was another strike on illegal body of Zionist regime. That is why Israel has cooperated in all conspiracies against Islamic system after victory of revolution of Iran.
